Who decides what constitutes “undue harm,” and why is it prohibited to cause “undue harm” for another?

If I’m interpreting your beliefs correctly, it seems to me that one would be fully justified in causing “undue harm” to another as long as it gave the first party pleasure.

How’s that? I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, and, God-willing, through faith in Him, reliance upon His sacraments and grace, His strength and my recognition that I am a weak sinner (and boy am I weak sometimes) I hope to find eternal joy with Him.

You have boldly come on a Catholic thread discussing your “satanism.” I fail to see what you mean that I’m in the same dangerous position you are in?

I get angry at folks like you trying to come into a Christian forum and trying to sanitize Satanism and talk about rational, intellectual, polite discussion about a sinister, evil, selfish ‘religion’ like satanism?

I would never presume to go on a satanic website and think that those folks should or would accept my faith in Christ.

You are doing one of two things, and I hope it’s the second one–you are either trying to provoke and anger Catholic folks OR you feel the calling of the Holy Spirit and you are flirting with Catholicism because, deep in the back of your mind, you don’t really believe all this atheistic, selfish LaVey stuff, and you’re curious about our faith.

I hope you fit the second description and Jesus Christ has successfully touched your heart and you are, even if you don’t realize it, coming closer to Him. In that event, I’d be most pleased to call you brother. God Bless and best of luck
I’ve completely denied any servitude, worship, or existance of any God. To say you have no desire to hear what I am, or accept me is a contradiction to your faith. You’re called to be loving in all that you do, to help those who needed it most, and to lay down your life for your brothers and sisters. All those people who aren’t Christian or are incredibly wicked are still considered children of God, including people like Hitler. You laughed at me, scorned me, tried to tear me down, called me names, told me I’m wrong, and at times near spit on me. You’ve condemned me in your heart and will so be condemned by God. And you wonder why I’m sure of denying Christianity.

No, we do not believe in mindless pleasure. We believe in self controlled pleasure and a better soceity , logically harming someone for one’s own pleasure in nonsensical.

Not trying to impress
but the verse has impressed…me…
because Jesus succinctly categorizes Satan/ism simply as that which minds/savors the things of man over that of God. All Christians should understand from Matt 16:23 alone this simple understanding of Satan/ism.
Ok, so we’re atheistic. Didn’t I already go over that?

No, we do not believe in mindless pleasure. We believe in self controlled pleasure and a better soceity , logically harming someone for one’s own pleasure in nonsensical.
Who decides what constitutes “harm”?

Why do you think that harming someone for one’s own pleasure is nonsensical and illogical?

“Satan is more of a metaphor for **following **all of **the drives **and pleasures **of human **nature” Wyatt
The way you presented my quote is unfair because you took it completely out of context the way you have it quoted here. This makes it look like I’m saying this is what I believe, and I absolutely DO NOT. I was saying this is what LeVeyan Satanists believe. I, being devoutly Catholic, believe Satan is a very real entity…not merely a metaphor. Please, if you are going to quote people, make sure the context is clear.

Who decides what constitutes “harm”?

Why do you think that harming someone for one’s own pleasure is nonsensical and illogical?
Because we don’t want the same. Logically, we realize what we do to others can be bad for them or us in the long run. “Do unto other as they do unto you.” That’s our dictum, why hurt people who’ve done nothing wrong?

To LeVeyan Satanists, Satan is more of a metaphor for following all of the drives and pleasures of human nature. They reject Christ so they believe that one should indulge in such pleasures as much as possible because, like most atheists believe, there is nothing after this life. They aren’t much like actual theistic devil worshipers.
Eat drink and be merry, for tommorrow we die.

I used to work in a Chemical Dependency unit. And recently was in jail (2 weeks+, contempt of court). Seen a lot of those who tried that philosophy, only ending up wishing they were dead.

Because we don’t want the same.
What makes you think you’d get the same?
Logically, we realize what we do to others can be bad for them or us in the long run. “Do unto other as they do unto you.”
How Biblical of you. 🙂 “So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)

I’m afraid I’m still having trouble understanding. It seems to me that the whole basis of your belief system is that pleasure is always good and should be sought at every opportunity. But here, you’re saying that sometimes pleasure can be bad because it sometimes has bad consequences. Is this not a contradiction?
That’s our dictum, why hurt people who’ve done nothing wrong?
Why not, if it gives you pleasure?

Also, you haven’t answered my question as to who decides what constitutes “harm,” if it’s different for every person.

I certainly agree that people who just completely throw in the towel and indulge in sin would be heading down a very dangerous road, and one that would lead to severe depression. That’s the problem with any self-gratifying behavior is, it’s great for awhile, and it may leave the person feeling happy, but it is an empty happiness. We’re all born with a conscience, and I think that literal sick feeling that people get who do this, even if they’ve had no religious direction, is their conscience trying to speak to them.

No it’s not biblical, it’s the inverse of the Christian “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Another way of putting it is “If a man smites you on one cheek, smash him on the other.” Our beliefs are not pleasure at every instance, our beliefs are mainly enjoy life, be the best you can be. There’s no contradiction in saying you cannot aimlessly seek pleasure. Without control what does it bring? Trouble. We aren’t just pleasure people, we’re about making our lives worth something through our own power. I think you’re trying to say that without God we should just be savages, but that’s not at all logical. We want to live, we’re a social species, so we can’t do it alone. We can’t be allowed to kill each other for no reason. The fact you imply we should without God or Christianity shows your lack of self control. And is probably why we need religion.

LaVeyan does not, Theistic does. They’re separate religions. Satan is a symbol for individuality and rebellion, not evil or sin. We only use Satan because Christianity the current main religion, where as in Norse pagansim we would use Loki. It’s not supposed to insult or shock anyone. It’s just a sign of individuality from the mainstream.
Loki actually was a trickster, a different kind of animal, and somewhat living off the mainstream, usually by swindling: he likes to live with the Aesir, not in Jotunheim. He is also quite the coward: his relationship with Odin is like the bully’s sidekick.

Hi! I’m new and a LaVeyan Satanist. I’m sure you all have one idea of Satanists or another. I’m afraid I can’t explain the Theistic branches, but I started this thread to answer any questions or misconceptions you might have. This thread is intended to be nothing more than a simple Q&A for people who want to know the truth about what we believe. I’ll gladly answer any questions you might have. But, this is not an argumentive thread. I’m a nice person, but any preaching, proselytizing, bigotry, insulting, and etc. will be ignored. This is a friendly thread and I want to keep it that way.

Ask away!

One of the delusions that we will clear up at the outset of this expose is the lie that leading Satanist’s do not believe in or truly worship the devil. First of all it should be understood that Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan viewed Satan as a true entity that he truly worshipped before his death. Anton LaVey deceived a lot of people who joined the Church of Satan by claiming that Satan only represented the repressed forces of nature but was not a real entity. In my interviews with former Charles Manson family member Susan Atkins, who is still in prison after being convicted of eight murders, Atkins blew the lid off of Anton’s lie. As a former associate of Anton LaVey’s, who danced for him and spent personal time with him before joining the Manson family, Atkins was privy to conversations with LaVey before he became popular. Atkins told me repeatedly that while LaVey promotes a watered down, palatable form of Satanism to the ignorant masses which he is deceiving, he acknowledged the exact opposite to her and to his inner core of Satanist in the church of Satan. Susan Atkins told me that LaVey told her emphatically while she was in his home that they truly worshipped Satan as a real entity and as the one who began the initial rebellion against God. Atkins also stated:

Susan Atkins“Anton told me that as a Satanist he does believe in the God of the bible but he refused to worship him and made a conscious decision to worship Satan instead.” (Personal interview with Susan Atkins)

We have pictures of Atkins with LaVey in his ritual chamber when she associated with the Church of Satan. LaVey was aware that few people were ignorant enough to truly turn their lives over to Satan, knowing that they would not only be allowing themselves to be deceived by their worst enemy but that they would spend eternity in the fiery torments of hell. LaVey therefore presented a seeker sensitive, user-friendly form of Satanism in the hope that it might appeal to the masses he was seeking to deceive. LaVey sought to put a spin on Satanism as a kinder and gentler form of Devil worship claiming that Satan merely represents a force in nature and that rather than Satanist’s sacrificing animals and little children they are animal activist who love children. All of this was done to garner unwitting recruits. For starters, one should never trust a Satanist. Satanist’s view lying to be among their highest virtues as do true Christians truth. LaVey and other Satanist serve the one who Jesus repudiated as “The father of lies”. (John 8:44) It would be just like the father of lies to cloak his religion in non-reality. Satan has long been about deception and has successfully deceived many recruits into believing that they are simply worshipping a symbol rather than a reality. Satan relishes in such ignorance. Atkins’ testimony that LaVey was deliberately duping Satanists in the outer circle is corroborated by evidence from LaVey’s own admissions. LaVey let his guard down when responding to other Satanist that considered him, “not extreme enough”. LaVey, while in a defensive mode, admitted that the image that he presented publicly was deceptive, declaring:

“If they’re at all intelligent [other true Satanist] …they’ll realize that there’s only so much I can say publicly…I will not advance things in print which make my position untenable…How long would the Church of Satan have lasted if I hadn’t appeased and outraged in just the right combination? It required a certain amount of discretion and diplomacy to balance the outrage.” (Lucifer Rising, p. 133)

I saw a movie yesterday (my step father left the TV, and I was only passively paying attention): the plot was a girl at the beginning loses her virginity, which has feared she’d be the last one at school. Her and her two friends engage in more and more sex, wondering why they are getting more and more disatisfied. Like “An indecent proposal” a Christian movie in spite of itself.

Insulting and rather pathetic. You’re just another reason why we have so many problems in the world

No it’s not biblical, it’s the inverse of the Christian “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Another way of putting it is “If a man smites you on one cheek, smash him on the other.”
In your last post, you said,

“Logically, we realize what we do to others can be bad for them or us in the long run. ‘Do unto other as they do unto you.’”

But now you seem to be saying that your beliefs are the inverse of that. I’m not sure I understand.
Our beliefs are not pleasure at every instance, our beliefs are mainly enjoy life, be the best you can be.
That seems to contradict what you said in this post:

“To LeVeyan Satanists, Satan is more of a metaphor for following all of the drives and pleasures of human nature. They reject Christ so **they believe that one should indulge in such pleasures as much as possible **because, like most atheists believe, there is nothing after this life. They aren’t much like actual theistic devil worshipers.” (emphasis mine)
There’s no contradiction in saying you cannot aimlessly seek pleasure. Without control what does it bring? Trouble.
But doesn’t having control over yourself stifle your ability to seek and experience pleasure? How can you have complete pleasure if you must restrain yourself? It seems to me that’s the antithesis of pleasure.
We aren’t just pleasure people, we’re about making our lives worth something through our own power.
Again, your quote from an earlier post contradicts this.
I think you’re trying to say that without God we should just be savages, but that’s not at all logical.
It’s not at all logical that you feel the need to put restraints on your pleasure-seeking when there’s no reason to do so. If pleasure is your highest ideal, why should you let anything stand in your way?
We want to live, we’re a social species, so we can’t do it alone. We can’t be allowed to kill each other for no reason.
But what if that’s what gives one pleasure? How can someone be a Satanist if they’re not allowed to do what pleases them most? And who in your organization makes up and enforces these rules about what one can and cannot do to seek pleasure?

It sounds to me that you are saying that even pleasure has its limits. But that seems to contradict your whole philosophy, which is what has me confused.
The fact you imply we should without God or Christianity shows your lack of self control. And is probably why we need religion.
I wasn’t implying anything. I was simply asking questions. You are inferring, which I think says more about your perspective than anything else.

By the way, who decides what constitutes “harm”?

Insulting and rather pathetic. You’re just another reason why we have so many problems in the world
I’m sorry to inform you of this, but Anton LaVey lied to his own followers. He did worship satan as an actual entity, while claiming satan was just symbolic for natural human urges.

Please re-read the post again and tell me what you find wrong with it.

That LaVeyan Satanist block I never said. Everything has its limits, but the limits in Christianity are too short. To be harmed is a state resulting from an action of harming. How is it necessary for me to tell you that? I didn’t contradict myself, ever. You seem to think I am which puzzles me, but I’m getting very frustrated saying the same thing over and over again. Do unto others as they do unto you = If a man smites you on one cheek, smash him on the other. It’ not complicated.

No he didn’t, your prejudice just won’t let you believe we’re actually an intellegent and good breed. I’ve been to the site your ripping information from. It’s just another psychotic pseudo christian site. There’s a lot of 'em. It’s called the internet.

She was one of LaVey’s followers, and had no reason to lie. You must be a lower level member of the church of satan, as only the higher-ups are privy to this information.
