This is nothing new in games, although I heard that AC: Odyssey takes it to a new level. It’s like some of the World War I and World War II games out there that have a bunch of women fighting against Germany, or integrated units where half the soldiers are black. I get that these video game companies want to be all PC but it just wasn’t like that in real life back then.

Assassin’s Creed is has never been even close to being historically accurate. It is a franchise where the Knight Templar are not a monastic order of warriors that fought in the Crusades, but a history-spanning cabal. I might have tried to be a little accurate in the first game despite the science fiction elements… But after that, that went out the window,

Complaining about it now seems silly.

i sometimes wonder if that has to do with the age of the game creators. Meaning, they just don’t know history well. Nor did they bother to look it up.

There is an opening blurb when you turn on Assassin’s Creed: Origins that states, “This game was created by a a diverse team of various beliefs, sexual orientations, and gender identities.”

What does your sexual orientation have to do with making a good video game? I’m pretty sure it won’t help you code better. But they are more interested in making a statement it appears. Oh, well.

Still, that sounds like an age thing. Younger people are more interested in those kinds of pronouncements.

Thats not what this subject is about. It’s about how this game is actively promoting social issues that are being pushed by popular culture as the norm, mainly being gender indifference and sexual orientation being equalized to the point were almost every characted you meet is bisexual were we are fit to engage in sexual relations. Its a SJW oaradise essentially and i’d getting sick of it being rammed down our throats through every medium

This is a video game, not a text book or history lecture.

TL:DW - some guy’s upset cos there’s women and people of color in a video game about fake people doing fake stuff in a fake world.

Assassins Creed is probably THE game that did their history checking. Played them all except Oddisey.

Their whole point is to have the same events but then make up a fiction to give a different cause to these events. That is the whole point. They didn’t get it wrong. They have a whole team cheking the history. Just in order to have a different cause (which then relates to the game story) to these same events.

Really? Cos it seems to me the point was “ThAT’s nOt HOw AnCieNt GrEecE WAs!!1!!!” and “SJWs aRe rUinINg ANciENt gReEcE!” and “YoUr prOGReSSiVeNeSS iS AnAChrOnIStic!!”

The video game, and the series in general, is a fantasy. Nothing more. Nobody is billing the Assassin’s Creed series as an authentic or life-like tale set in a correct and completely historical setting. It’s invented science, invented history, since the beginning of the series.

What happens in a piece of media isn’t an endorsement of said thing. It’s a silly story about murdering people - but somehow the glorification of murder isn’t the problem? No, it’s women being soldiers. That’s the outrageous part.

Assassin’s Creed has never been perfectly historically accurate. There was a conversation in the first game where one character literally says something along the lines of, “This is not what I learned in history class.”

Basically, it uses the really popular parts of history as its backdrop, but that’s really all it is. They’re much more interested in telling their history-spanning story of Assassin’s vs. Templars. Maybe the first couple games tried to offer a lot of cultural commentary, but even that started fading.

They’ve been doing this since the first game. It was probably put in as a disclaimer due to the fact that the first couple games touched on subjects that Muslims and Catholics may have found offensive. It’s basically their version of, “I’m not racist! I have a black friend!”

Back when Dragon Age 2 and Fallout 4 did that, people just called it lazy.
Have a read about some who did…
FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL IN SILENCE

Well check out red dead redemption two. It paints Pretty rosy picture of the treatment African-Americans and Native Americans received during that time.

Or even Gone With the Wind.

Artists have always taken liberties with their works set in history.

People here forget that fantasy needs to make sense and be relateable to human nature. This is something C.S lewis and J.r.r Tolkien understand very well when creating their worlds. Can you imagine if they made the orcs to have the same attributes of elves or elves the same attributes of orcs? How much would this make sense? It would cause a disconnect from immersion. Would you same people whinge thats its just a fantasy? Fantasy is creative and poetic ways in which can express truth of our human nature. One can learn for example alot more about love, courage and hope from lord of the rings than a reality tv show were people are confused what gender they are. Immersive fantasies are stories that excite us because they connect with our soul

To move on from that, why did the developers make a Game were almost every character is bisexual? Surely this should be obvious in todays society. Why have 50% of mecenaries be female? As i said surely its obvious.

Well, elves and orcs aren’t real, so…

That said, there are mythologies where elves and orcs are less differentiated than in Tolkien’s world. Shadowrun is one of my personal favorites. Even in Tolkien’s world, some elves really weren’t good people.

Probably to let players have sex with any obvious option that they wanted. Dragon Age 2 and Fallout 4 did the same. To me, it’s taking “player choice” too far.
Why have 50% of mecenaries be female?
That one probably is due to pushes for more diversity in games, but ultimately, I think it’s a weird thing to complain about.

Probably because the game developers aren’t sure if the player will be gay, straight, or anything else, and they want to let each player make a connection to the game in that way.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

I, for one, am glad that these games allow people more than straight white men to enjoy their bloodbath protagonist replacement fantasy. It’s a game, where people can go and have fun. And be some super-rockin’ uber-soldier or whatever. It’s not an AP class in Greek history. It was never meant to be. If you want that, you’re looking at the wrong media.
