Atheists can be in heaven? Philosophy
They cannot do so and continue to be atheist.

That was not the question of the OP.
Yes, it answers it just fine.
In case we have forgotten, the OP said ‘I have plenty of atheist/agnostic/non-religous friends who are good people. I find it difficult to believe this is insta-hell for them. Any thoughts?’

I answered the “insta-hell” as well as provided my own thoughts.

Do you have further insight into the original post that we do not have? Please share.

And it is frustrating to talk to people who are unable / unwilling to see or admit their irrationality.
Yes, it is. Especially when they don’t recognize the irony in making statements about themselves. 😉
There cannot be any argument which does not start with empirical facts. Period.
Philosophers do it all the time. Period. 🤷‍♂️
Of course. Any hard solipsist can do it.
And in doing so, they’d be horribly mistaken. Thank you for demostrating that it’s illogical to claim that being in one’s presence makes it impossible to claim the other does not exist. “There are no atheists in heaven” is a logical claim. 😉
If I am left alone, I will not mention you or your argument any more.
Yes, leaving us alone might be a welcome choice. 😉 (I predict you won’t, based on the empirical evidence of your posts.)

It was not the topic of the thread. It asked if atheists can get into heaven.
Really?
Just a reminder, here is the original post:
‘I have plenty of atheist/agnostic/non-religous friends who are good people. I find it difficult to believe this is insta-hell for them. Any thoughts?’

I missed the part that asks that question.
Please clarify for me.

It’s the very title of the thread. In the blue bar just above what you are reading right now. And the pope says yes. Apart from some ‘I know what you are, but what am I’ type of responses, I can’t see that there’s much to add.

There is a difference between what the Pope said and what you are saying he said.

One cannot be an atheist in heaven.

Nice try. And obviously not. If you get there then it doesn’t take a Rhodes Scholar to realise that one had made a mistake in not believing in God. But the question was NOT can one be an atheist in heaven, but rather can an atheist actually GET to heaven.

I’m saying that one can. And the pope has said, and he is quoted as having said, that the atheist father of a Catholic is in heaven. It appears that he agrees with me. And not with you.

QED.

But the title says “Atheists can be in heaven.”
Not “can Atheists go to heaven.”

And the answer there is no, you cannot be an atheist in heaven.

But, you wouldn’t be an Atheist in Heaven. That would be an oxymoron belief.

No it doesn’t. Good effort, but another fail. You missed out the all important interrogative.

No, I answered it.
As have others on this thread.

No, one cannot be an atheist in heaven.
Correct. But can they get to heaven? Yep. The pope says so.

Feel free to agree.

What if your the one that’s supposed to bring them to faith in Jesus. You say nothing they go to their judgment and are damned. You will be held partially responsible for that. Now imagine your standing at your Judgment do you really think Jesus is going to accept the I dont want to loose them as a friend excuse.

Atheism is not a sin if a person has learned nothing about God, or understood incorrectly what was presented to him/her, or has examined the question about God’s existence conscientiously and cannot believe.

The line between being unable to believe and being unwilling to believe is not clear.

And if their atheism continues there, they exclude themselves from entrance.
That’s quite a Catch 22 you’ve worked yourself into. If you continue to be an atheist in heaven then you wouldn’t have been allowed in in the first place.

In any case, I’m sure I read that being an atheist in heaven is not possible.
No, one cannot be an atheist in heaven.
But at least we have agreed with the pope that atheists are allowed in. So unless you have yet another convoluted point that you’d like to make…?
