Recently I’ve seen several attacks on Pope Francis by other Priest and Catholics. I believe these are from the ultra-conservative wing of Catholics. From some of the rhetoric I’ve heard, these people are causing such anger and divison that the attack is coming from within. I won’t even quote the names of these Priest and people so you won’t search for them.

Lets pray for our Pope that God continues to guide him and use Him. Some of the reforms he’s been talking about have long been needed set by the example of Christ about forgiveness of sins. If we don’t forgive others, our heavenly father won’t forgive us either. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone (John 8:7)!!!

John 13:35 (NABRE)
35 This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I support him and immediately disregard anyone who criticizes him

Sincce that has only happened twice in the history of the church, then we are good

What are some of the things that concern you? I’m really curious if you don’t mind sharing

The Pope, like any other person, is a sinner. One of the spiritual works of mercy is to admonish the sinner.

The Pope makes mistakes and just because he is the Pope doesn’t mean he is above criticism. However, we must all remember as faithful Catholics that we must ALWAYS give the Pope the benefit of the doubt. His actions might be weird but his intentions are hopefully good.

As the OP said, one should never ATTACK the Pope. One can criticize.

But above all, one should pray for him to safeguard the deposit of faith.

I’m curious to what thing people here might now disagree with him, in light of the scriptures. You can message me privately if you want so I can understand. Thanks

I couldn’t help myself 🤣

But anyway I also agree. The Pope should not be attacked

My fear, not that I should really fear, but trust in God, is that some ultra conservative fanatic will take it upon himself to do something so awful that he will try to physically harm the Pope.

Woe to that person who stirs a mentally unstable person to commit such an act.

Well the way one Priest in particular has attacked the Pope, somebody watching his vids can be easily influenced if unstable to do something bad. People are like blind sheep and without the covering of the Good Shepherd, can be easily deceived.

the Pope is a human being; when he wades into political waters (eg global warming & how a nation (like USA) decides to tend to its borders) and is not speaking on matters involving Papal Infallibility; the Pope is not above criticism

… even harsh criticism

Well, the Pope has said various things at various points in various forms of authority that some are concern about.

Speaking about homosexual activity, the Pope famously said, “Who am I to judge?” Now, in some contexts that might be okay. We cannot judge intentions only actions. But people throughout the world are listening to the Pope and the context was not given by his Holiness.

Also, Francis’ handling of the divorce and remarried Communion bit. Objectively, those who are divorced and remarried cannot receive the Eucharist without getting their situation normalized. But from my understanding (which is limited I’ll admit) there is some confusion about that the Pope has not cleared up.

I’m not trying to argue. This has been argued many times on this forum. Just answering your question about potential problems folks have with the Pope.

Them mainly being that the Pope isn’t the most forthright and nuanced.

I guess you could say that I’m involved in some ultra-conservative Catholic groups online, and I’ve seen a lot of both fair and unfair criticisms of our Pope.

Still, I haven’t gotten the feeling that anyone wants to get violent. At worst people will become Sede, but most don’t even go that far. You should keep in mind that everyone on the rad trad side of Catholicism are all devout people, though some have allowed their pride and vanity to make them see ghosts and become heretical.

Nevertheless, even the crazy ones still try to follow Jesus and are not going to resort to terrorism. I think you’re worrying needlessly.

Pope is 100% correct. Jesus taught us to be like this. We still address sins, but never judge.

Luke 6:37-39 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
Judging Others
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

Divorced people must be forgiven. My father fell under this after he remarried my mom. For 30 years he could never receive the eucharist. How long must a person suffer like this? Luckily on his death bed a Priest broke the rules and gave him communion. Thank you Jesus

Well, to be honest, there ware also consistent attacks on Pope Benedict XVI from the so-called liberal wing of the Church. “Nazi” jokes , and even as Cardinal he was called the “Vatican’s Rottweiler” and similar. It is unfair to both.

Yet, if you read the writings of both men, it is hard to distinguish between them, as love is the rule for both.

Ignorance is rarely a good thing, but to willfully ignore the critical voices in the Church is prudence and to offer prayer for the hierarchy is charity.

Our job is to pray.

Absolutely, but the divorced person must ask for forgiveness. I don’t know the specifics of this particular case, but your Dad could have received the Eucharist at any time as long he repented. Those who do not can’t receive Communion. This is where the nuance plays in.

You do realise that the Pope is not God. We don’t have to agree with every single thing he says. There are issues that we can respectfully disagree with the Pope on.

I have a few Priest friends who sometimes are frustrated with what he says or the way he says things because he sometimes causes confusion among the faithful. That said, he is the Pope and we must offer him the respect that is due to him.

If you ask me, the attack is coming from “progressive” Catholics who make posts like this out of the blue.

Well my father told me he was not allowed communion because of his divorce. His second marriage to my mom lasted 30 years till his dead. His 1st wife who he married in the CC, divorced two more times.

Divorced people must be forgiven.
Yes. But if they continue to live in adultery, then the sanction is self-imposed.

People who are in second marriages can receive if they refrain from sexual activity, or if they can show that their previous marriage was null.

It’s easy to quote Jesus on mercy, but His words on marriage are crystal clear. “A man who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery.”

Presumably until their situation is normalized or until they stop the sin that is causing this separation from the Eucharist.

Disagreement is one thing, but saying things like Pope Francis is turning the CC into an apostate church is appalling.
