What? Could you please explain this?Jesus did stay in a abusive environment.
Breaking bread with a sinner and celebrating a sinful marriage are two completely different things. This is not getting together for Wednesday night trivia at the Elk’s Lodge with people whose lifestyle you don’t agree with - sharing nachos and root beer. I have broken bread, been to homes of people i went to school with who were lesbian, who made gambling their career, were promiscuous and bragged about it. I am all for breaking bread with anyone if its someone i know and be a Christian presence to, even if i don’t share the gospel with them.thelibrarian:![]()
This strikes me as a misreading of scripture. You are conflating WELCOMING the apostle with TURNING FROM one’s sinful life. One can do one without yet doing the other. And either the sinner became transformed and held true to “go and sin no more” or Jesus and the Apostles kicked the dust off their sandals and went to the next town.
I missed this before – it sounds like its a “celebration of homosexuality” more than “introducing X (nameof other guy) to the family.” If your family is Catholic, I am really discouraged by that. i can see if these were your aunt’s good friends and she made dessert, but that is really over the topMy aunt who will be at the event just sent me a picture of a the decorations she set up: rainbow flags and a rainbow cake.
No, the celebration is entirely about sex. I have lots of friends. I don’t have sex with my friends. I do have sex with my wife. And I’m expected to only have sex with my wife. So yep, a marriage is about celebrating sex and its natural results, children. Even the pagans knew this.I’m sure that they’re not celebrating what they do in bed. Are straight couples who have informal marriage receptions doing this to celebrate sex? The celebration is about a lot more than just sex.
I don’t know but it is up near the top. Sins of the intellect are impossible to see. But when we see a sin we certainly shouldn’t celebrate it.Certainly you do not think sodomy is the worst sin? Sins of the flesh are considered lesser sins than sins of the intellect. Having an unforgiving heart is very serious.
Well, I guess that my mind is not always on sex like some people.Thorolfr:![]()

You must have been imagining it a little bit when you talked about the reception for the OP’s friend being “a celebration of two men sodomizing each other”. It seems kind of explicit to me and not really necessary in this discussion.I wouldn’t suggest imagining the couple having sex.
I hope you were not spying like the guys who caught the women in the act of adultery. Otherwise you didn’t see anything but what was in your mind.I don’t know but it is up near the top.
No it is not. It is a terrible offense against God but since it is our fallen flesh it is not near the top.
Sins of the intellect are impossible to see.
What difference does that make. God sees all. We are told not to judge. We can make value judgments. Sodomy is objectively wrong but subjectively we don’t have a clue.
But when we see a sin we certainly shouldn’t celebrate it.
When did I say the OP should attend the reception? I didn’t. Your words were inaccurate, however, to what Jesus was doing. That’s why I objected.Breaking bread with a sinner and celebrating a sinful marriage are two completely different things. Yeah but he didn’t go to parties celebrating sin.Christ sought out sinners. Reprimanded those who complained of the tax collectors and other such undesirables formerly shunned.
We don’t have to go along with immoral celebrations. Here honoring our parents is bearing witness to the truth.Honor thy father and they mother is also required of Catholics.
