New South Wales Only 1 new case and the source is known.

The new case is a close contact of a previously reported case at Hornsby Hospital.
Victoria

Andrews looks so worn out during his daily press conferences. Yes he is going to seek a 12 mth extension of the state of emergency. What will happen if it is approved is anyones guess atm. Either continue state 3 lockdown, or not. Definately masks and compulsory isolation for covid positives and those waiting for results.

Today the press were more interested in his stance on where the AFL grandfinal will likely be played, given it should be Victoria. Andrews was having none of that conversation.

Wasn’t aware of this (emphases NOT mine, ABC was kind to do that for me):

Australia is one of the only democracies in the world that has banned its citizens from leaving the country as a public health measure during the coronavirus pandemic.

An Australian citizen or permanent resident is not permitted to travel outbound unless they apply online to Border Force and meet a set of strict exemption criteria .
Sydney University constitutional lawyer Anne Twomey said she doubted there were constitutional grounds to challenge the travel ban , but there might be an argument under administrative law about whether the Minister validly made the determination under the biosecurity act.

We have no roadmap yet. Not even a statement on where the AFL grandfinal will be played. Dan Andrews is going to talk on the road map out on the 6th September in detail.
Because he is trying to get the state of emergency extended we will probably all be in stage three lockdown for another 6 months.

Today we are just waiting for a press conference where it will be announced the AFL will be played in Brisbane, this is the first time in 120 years that Victoria has not hosted the Grand Final. After this is over the premier will start concentrating on the road map out of lockdown. The extension of the state of emergency in Victoria was just passed in Victorian parliament.

I hope you dont mind me posting these updates @ATraveller

People care a lot about where the grandfinal will be played. Its a big thing here.

NSW reported 3 consecutive days without local transmission of the virus. No second lockdown. Things are almost normal (distancing still mandated and large gatherings still banned, etc.). And apparently, masks aren’t even mandatory. If masks were mandated, they would probably completely eliminate the virus though the goal was suppression rather than elimination. If you’ve unintentionally gotten this close to completely ridding yourself of the virus, why not just go for outright elimination of the virus?
If a global city like Sydney can do it, what’s the excuse for other places? Oh right, in America riots and political mass gatherings are ruining their chances of controlling the virus. And sporadic copycat events in other Western countries haven’t helped in those other places.

For the eighth consecutive day, NSW has not reported a single recent case of locally transmitted #COVID19.

One case of a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine was diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 4,043.
A travel bubble is starting to form around Australia and New Zealand.

Even outside Victoria and cities with quarantine hotels, the virus might still be present. Of course, it’s hard to tell whether the traces are active or inactive “leftovers”.
And NSW’s COVID-free streak sadly ended earlier this week.

Knowing the virus is still present, some still insist mass rallies are a great idea. NSW sacrificed so much to get to little to no new cases.
