Australian suggests his country's bushfires and droughts are punishments for its same-sex and abortion laws

He was dropped from the Australian international rugby team for voicing his opinion on gay marriage.
I like the guy but I don’t agree with the comments he made here.
I think saying he “voiced his opinion on gay marriage” rather underplays what he actually said. His comments were directed at persons who engage in homosexual acts and he expressed a view on the fate awaiting them (hell).

Australia ALWAYS has droughts and bushfires…it’s nothing new…they are natural events…they are not being punished by an “act of God”…that guy is a fundamentalist Christian…they see scripture as black and white…not the context of when it was written…how it is meant to be interpreted…no theology or understanding of scripture…so they are very judgmental…I used to be the same decades ago til I found the true (Catholic) church

Did I say “voiced his opinion” I meant preaching the gospel.
The post that got him sacked was directed at everyone not only gay people and even if it was he shouldn’t be sacked. It’s a classical ploy by the left to shut down anyone who disagrees with them.

How many employers do you know who would except his behaviour?
He was given an official warning , which he ignored before his second tweets.

I am not saying he is right or wrong about hell. But as a national sports person who’s paid to be professional. He crossed the line sorry.

I find it difficult to believe he will win his court case.

Over here we have an ex professional England footballer and Manager (Glenn Hoodle ) who was given NO warning . Simply dismissed for claiming people with disabilities, are being punished for former sins in his religious beliefs.

As a professional in any employment you can’t go around saying these things.

In engineering no employer would care as it has nothing to do with our work

In your opinion national sportsmen cannot paraphrase the bible on instagram, cannot give a sermon at their local parish and cannot express themselves on social media… They must be social justice warriors.

So your job is more important to you than God’s word.
The feelings of gay people are more important to you than God’s word.
You would rather deny God’s word than be persecuted, like Peter.

This is typical of Catholics, happy to sit quietly and watch society fall into sin.
That’s one thing i like about evangelical Christians, their ability to preach the gospel regardless of peoples feelings. They’re no afraid. I gladly stand behind the word of God and would be honoured to be persecuted for it.

This is the post that got him fired. I don’t understand why gay people get so offended when they’re called sinners or told they will not inherit the kingdom of heaven when they don’t even believe in God.
Good on him for having the courage to not be intimidated by social justice warriors and to put up the word of God.

The post was crass. It’s not a model we should follow. Our Bishops and priests don’t follow that example of preaching the gospel. As to whether he should have been sacked - I’ve not commented on that.

Then level this criticism at the Pope, Bishops and Priests who do not preach in the crass manner of Israel Folau. The idea is to change hearts for the better - not to harden them.

The post was crass
Ur basically saying the word of God is unintelligent and insensitive as the post paraphrases Paul’s words in Galatians 5: 19-21

My criticism is directed at all Catholics, especially the clergy. Im not talking about the hearts of individuals but the mentality of society. When the topic of gay marriage, abortion, etc comes up I hear nothing from the church when they should be speaking up against legalizing any sinful acts.

Why should we be more sensitive to gay people than to other sinners anyway?
Why do they deserve to be regarded so highly that no one can disagree with them?
What would you say to a gay person who not only rejects God but promotes their sinful lifestyle to everyone including children?

I’m addressing Folau’s comments including the manner and context in which he said them. He did more harm than good.

Then you must be deaf. Of course the Church spoke up and argued against gay marriage. Are you suggesting we should have a law making illegal pre-marital sex? That’s a sinful act. Homosexual acts used to be illegal. Do you think the good would be served by making them illegal? I doubt you’ve thought this through.

I’ve not said or implied any of that. Those are all your words.

Had Folau made a comparable public statement referencing people who had IVF or who slept with their boy/girlfriends he’d be rightly similarly condemned. It’s not for him to announce who is going to hell. His statements were crass, and do more harm than good.

I must be deaf cos I heard nothing from the church here.

Perhaps u can help me think it through…
Less than 5% of the population is gay yet 75% of people with STDs and STIs are gay.
In the past decade STIs have increased, some up to 3 times where I live.
That’s my first concern, the health of our society.

Why do you think it’s a good idea to legalize it?

@Rau I’m still interested in what your thought process is from here.

How do u justify legalizing gay sex when it increases the spread of STDs and STIs?
Did that even cross your mind before u started defending and supporting gay sex?

I never said anything about sermon… I know many wise priests who love God with all their hearts.

And I can tell you now 100% none of them would give sermons on homosexuality in a church nor blame Punishment upon Australia.

This man has taken the readings of St Paul and used it incorrectly.

St Paul warns fellow believers , he doesn’t force his opinions on others.

It’s not the same. St Paul says they will not inherit the kingdom of God nor many other acts like Adultery ect…

I neither support it nor defend it - you just made that up. That’s twice now you’ve done that.

You expressed a preference for sinful acts to be illegal (advocating the church should advocate accordingly). I asked earlier - does this include pre-marital sex ?

That’s not what I meant but I can see how you got that interpretation. Just replace the term “sinful acts” with “homosexual acts”

Misunderstandings from both of us I guess.
You called Folau’s post “crass” which is defined as showing no intelligence or sensitivity.
I think you support or defend it cos you posted this to me.
Homosexual acts used to be illegal. Do you think the good would be served by making them illegal? I doubt you’ve thought this through.
So I asked you to help me think it through. I’ve explained why it should be illegal.
Why do u think homosexual acts should be legal?
Would the good be served by making them legal?

They are legal. Private personal actions involving consenting adults are ordinarily not opposed by free (secular) societies. A relevant question would be: would there be merit (in the present times) in making them illegal? You’ve suggested a public health benefit. That would depend on the actual health threat (unknown to me - but interested to look at any credible reference material you have) + the level of compliance such a law (if it could ever be enacted) would receive (which is probably minimal). Offsetting that would be the considerable harm that supporting the cause of making homosexual relationships illegal would do. Harm to the cause of encouraging the better course for persons experiencing SSA and harm to the cause of promoting Christianity.

It is you that hasn’t thought this through my friend.
I would suggest learning about the health risks. I hope you agree that public health is more important than anything else in this case.
Anyway bro God bless.

If the public health risk could be credibly quantified, and if the impact of a change of law could be credibly gauged, your question could be answered.
