Sorry. You’re too late to read the anti-Catholic things. They’ve completely deleted the forum entitled “Catholicism”.
It kind of reminds me of The Berlin Wall, it was meant to keep people in, not out.

Hey boys and girls,

I have released you all from the cooler/coffee break at Bibleforums. Here is the deal: you will be able to post there, however catholic-related threads will be moved to our world religions forum. This is one of three hidden forums to which you will have to request specific membership. Those of you who have accounts there can do this by going into your UserCP → Group Memberships → and then applying for the controversial issues forums. Since you are new, you’ll need to state a reason why. Tell me something like “Here to talk RCC” and you’ll be authorized.

If anyone decides to not play by these rules and proselytize the catholic faith, you will be removed immediately and permanently.

BluegrassJimmie is a mod over there???

Whoa, Brody…

Great, and now I have to reassess my stereotypes about Protestants–AGAIN.

YAY, but now, here’s a question for you. Why is this a hidden forum? and why do you need permission? Why won’t you let everyone see these threads and make their own decisions? What is there to hide?

This to me, is still skirting the issue. Non-Catholics are allowed to talk about what they think the Catholic church teaches, however Catholics are not allowed to correct those misconceptions (or in some cases, outright lies).

Why such an unwillingness to listen to Catholic doctrine confirmed in Scripture? Or better yet, the early church?

Ain’t that exciting. Just like the Catacombs! …

Yes, I am a mod there. And is that an improvement on the stereotype, or have I worsened the view? I mean this seriously. Believe it or not, I was out with a number of friends from my church last night and was riding their collective cases for making ignorant statements about RCC. The typical “they pray to Mary” “they worship the pope” stuff.

As for you, superstar905 and TNT… there is no need to be aggressive. The hidden forums are hidden from search bots for a number of reasons. All “regular” members can read them.

Let me break it down for you, superstar. Regular members who post threads about the RCC (or any non-Protestant religion) will find their threads moved to the hidden forums. There you’ll be able to refute any misrepresenations posted. And to be honest, I hope you do. One thing I give the people here credit for is that you guys got your faith down cold. I don’t agree with parts of it, but your unity and education regarding the church is commendable. If someone at my forum is blatantly misinformed, by all means call them on it. BUT… you guys won’t be allowed to try to make converts. If you can’t deal with that, then save me a push of the ban button and stay here.

And TNT… you can spare me the martyr garbage, If you really think a forum created for Protestants is going to allow any non-Protestant to have full run of the place then you are a fool. If you think that should be the case, then I fully expect you to lobby the admins here to make me a mod here.

Either way, it’s your choice. I put you all on “coffee break” to give us at my forum a chance to decide how to allow you to participate without undermining the purpose of our forum. It would have been much easier to ban you all as we were well aware each and every time one of you signed up over there. If you don’t like the compromise and don’t want to play by those rules, then stay out. If you can deal with the rules, then I look forward to talking with you over there.

Finally: I do want to apologize to you all on behalf of the protestants who spread misinformation about your faith. I can only tell you where I stand: If you are proclaiming faith in Christ and have accepted him as your Savior, then you are brothers nd sisters in my book.

How ya like them apples?

Careful. I don’t want you to fall in!—> Matthew 5:22 But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council. And whosoever shall say, Thou Fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Ever wonder why there are 3 levels of judgement/punishment and only one is hell? Kinda reminds me of that purgatory thingy.:yup:
and again:
1 Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself: if any man among you seem to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

BTW:
On any Forum outside my own, I consider myself a guest at the pleasure of the Forum’s owners. I have never signed up for a permit on your forum. But I do appreciate sarcastic humor on rules that get set in place.
Finally,
Did you ever resolve the Pugatory thingy? I hadn’t seen you back there on your recent visits on this forum.

Come on now… you’re going to quote scripture to a Protestant? I thought we were the experts in scripture quoting. 😛

What do you mean by resolving the purgatory thing? Tis not mine to resolve. I just had/have some questions about your doctrines, that’s all.

Apology accepted.

Maybe I’ll come check it out.

Boy are you in for a shock then! 😛

Kay Cee:
I would just like everybody who posted in thread to know that, if nothing else, you gave me an excellent teaching opportunity with my teenage daughter.

She was looking over my shoulder while I was reading the thread and asked about it. Her question was, “Why won’t they (baptist.org) even listen to questions?”

My response was, “Well, that should tell you a lot. Catholicism is the Truth. The Truth can stand up to any questioning. You can ask any question you want about the Catholic Church. Just be sure that when you ask, you research all the answers.”

She left the room with a big smile on her face.

Just thought you’d like to know that you helped plant a seed and make her stronger in her faith. And for that, thank you!
Hehe. 👍

I’m giving it a try for a while, but I’m leaving my guns at home. I am going to focus on family issues and other areas of commonality. Some features there are better, some worse. It definitely has a different flavor.

Hiya charity, i ventured over to the baptist board aswell, using the same name though. Just like to point out i loved your posts! Brilliant, a severe lack of responses to them i noticed. Keep up the good work.

Hiya Eden. Like to point out that reading your posts on that baptist site was such a breath of fresh air. You sounded like a HEAVYWEIGHT apologist. Amazing. When they responded, you wiped the floor with them every time. Keep it up!

Magicsilence.
Thanks magicsilence! I just saw this post. Off topic, I wanted to tell you that I have a lot of family in London. Tell them I said, “Hello!” 😃

Thanks to Bobby and BGH too. All of the Catholics over there were top-notch!

I never posted at the protestant sites, and only looked at a couple of threads, so I’m not sure what the fuss is about. I am wondering, though, what would it look like for Catholics to go to your site and “try to make converts”? To me, that would be something like a Catholic saying “All you Baptists have distorted the gospel and had better submit to the authority of the One True Church (RCC) or you’re going to hell!” Fundamentalists occasion come here and say similar things like “stop worshiping Mary and accept Christ”, but they’re overwhelmed pretty quickly. I think you should censor Catholic trolls.

But I can’t imagine that that was what was happening. I would expect regular member says “the Catholic’s practice of confessing to a priest is an un-Biblical tradition of man” and the Catholic responds by saying that it is commanded in James 5:16, and Christ instituted it in Matt. 16 & 18, to which the original poster replies, “that’s not what those scriptures mean”, and so on. Each person is wanting the other, and the other readers, to understand and agree with their position. That seems the nature of discussion.

I guess what I’m asking is whether a Catholic who posts the full truth of the Gospel, as we see it, in the hopes that other Christians will see it, too, will be considered to be “trying to make converts”? We all want others to share our view of the truth as we see it. I think it unreasonable to expect Catholics posting there not to want the readers of the other forums to come to agree with them.

Does it just mean that Catholics can’t start threads in which they argue for Catholic positions, but they can only respond to misrepresentations of Catholic teaching? Can Catholics respond to what they consider misinterpretations of Scripture?

This thread brings back some fond memories. Some ten years ago I went to the DC promise keepers rally(along with about a million other men). It entailed an over 40 hour(20 hours each way) bus ride with 35 other men. I was the ONLY Catholic on the bus. The Bus had barely left Houston before my seatmate informed me had just completed a 13 part course in evangelizing Catholics. I smiled and told him to please not practice on me. So he says he has just one question and that is do I know what the Immaculate Conception is. That gave me an opportunity to go into the scriptural basis for the Immaculate conception(the concept of a purified and unsoiled tabernacle mentioned so often in the Old Testament.) I asked him wouldn’t Mary’s womb be a Tabernacle and would not Mary therefore need to be purified and unsoiled for God to dwell in her for nine months?

Of course this was not the answer he expected -he was hoping I would say it was all about Mary conceiving and remaining a Virgin. But my answer did spark a lively debate in the bus and about 5 hours out of Houston I heard the whisper going around the bus “Bob is a SAVED Catholic”.

I am not much for arguing with Protestants but I do believe that God provides us with what I like to call “teaching moments” where we can, in a non confrontational way , witness about our Faith". The Bus ride was one of these moments , the death of John Paul II another.

The best way to witness our Faith, IMO, is how we live our lives. I like to think our Faith is a religion of attraction, not promotion. I want people drawn to our Faith because they see the great joy it brings to our lives-not because I have won some esoteric argument about what James really meant when he said “Faith without works is dead”.

Bill Jackson gave this public response:

Martyrs Mirror gives an account of Anabaptista being persecuted back to Apostolic times. **
www.dodone.org/NA.html
gives more Baptistic groups. The name “Baptist” was given as a slur. Baptist groups were around under many different names. One reason their history is hard to trace is because you Catholics killed all of them you could and then rewrote their histories…**

It’s a shame because now I can’t respond appropriately to this from another poster:

**Well, Eden, we do celebrate the birth of our Lord and since the exact date is not stated in the scriptures thiugh, we do know it certainly isn’t Dec. 25 we do honor His birth on that date. surely you aren’t going to presume that date was set by the catholic church are you? **
**For if you will do a simple search of that particular holiday Christmas was originally celebrated in January but, president F.D.R. moved it back to the last month of the year for tax reasons to assist retail merchandisers to move out merchandise before the first of the year and give them a break on their taxes paid on stock on hand. **
 :banghead: :rotfl:

Oh my!!! They are REALLY in denial about giving ANY props to the Catholic Church, aren’t they? Wow. SHOULD they clean up their act, there’s a VERY good chance they will spend an Amelia (des Neves(?)) amount of time in Purgatory. I enjoy the presumption and the patronizing tone as well as putting the Catholic Church on the defense. Brilliant!! I cannot believe they are that dense. Wowowowow!!! I also enjoy how they a simple search, yet, provide no documentation, NOR, will they acknowledge, “Christ’s Mass” being around before the Bible. And from one of the mods, nonetheless. tsktsktsk.

E.E.N.S.:
However, they seem to be perfectly fine with eastern Orthodox - how funny, they must not realize just how close to Catholicism EO truly are! 🙂
Give 'em a link to Orthodoxy–especially one with a picture of Mary and Orthodox saints. I am sure they’ll change their minds.
