Why not assume honesty and truthfulness? Slack will be cut to those who cut slack.

It was a teen at the beach. Are there any visual opportunities for sin there?

Yeah.

Keep grasping
I tend to dress very formally but not everyone is like me and I see no theological/moral issue with a person turning up to confession dressed in an informal manner after being at the beach.

I am not excusing showing up in such clothes in other scenarios.

I changed it to “PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, REMAIN SILENT, AND RECOLLECT FOR MASS."
Alternatively, you could change but a single word: ““PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, BECOME SILENT, AND RECOLLECT FOR MASS.”

Is a Collect offered before the mass?

How can I change Recollect for Mass to something more appropriate? I know what he means - reflect, pray, focus, feel the presence of Christ, etc. but want to keep it short & simple.
Our cantor says, “To help maintain the sacred nature of the liturgy, please silence all cell phones and electronic devices.” There is one more sentence but I must have heard it so many times I stopped really hearing the last sentence. Whatever it is, there’s a prayerful tone.

I would change Recollect to “Gather your thoughts for mass.”

A choir powerpoint? As more and more business realize PowerPoint is an ineffective presentation tool, I would suggest your choir drop the PowerPoint. A simple announcement before mass to turn off/silence phones will do just as much good.

Wanting to tell people to recollect before mass via a powerpoint seems to be more than a bit ironic.

I think people do what they do before the start of Mass because of the new mantra that governs so many in this country today which is – I want what I want, I want it now, and I don’t care what you want.

Actually I he church is very pretty I’m making it out to sound worse than it is.I just don’t care for the set up it’s very distracting. One has to make a concerted effort to focus on the Mass and not people watch from across the way.😳

I still don’t think drop down screens are appropriate in church.

Prior to the start of a funeral service I recently attended, the presider asked everyone to turn off their electronic devices. That’s just common courtesy and respect for the occasion and event. WHY do people have to be told this?

I hate to tell you this, but I confess my sins every night in my PJs or wearing whatever I’m wearing. At church, that’s another thing; however, flip flops are hardly disrespectful.

It’s just a reminder for those of us who intended to but forgot.

Our priest asked us to use this announcement in our Choir PowerPoint before Mass:
“PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, STOP TALKING AND RECOLLECT FOR MASS.”

I changed it to “PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR PHONES, REMAIN SILENT, AND RECOLLECT FOR MASS.”

How can I change Recollect for Mass to something more appropriate? I know what he means - reflect, pray, focus, feel the presence of Christ, etc. but want to keep it short & simple.

Thanks!
In all honesty, why would you change what the Priest wrote? Unless he told you to edit the words, you really don’t have the authority to change his words.

Uh yes. Respect. Honouring youre creator. God is youre creator. The One youre meant to love and respect. Showing up to your creator in flip flops is hardly respect.

What us wrong with people these days?
If we were talking about about a Sunday Mass or a Holy Day of Obligation, I would agree with you.

However, confession is a little different. While we should try our best to be well dressed in the House of the Lord, I would NOT expect a dress code that is more strict that the one for the Vatican - ESP on a weekday or Saturday.

If someone is popping into the Church for a quick confession in the middle of their day, wearing flip flops it is not an issue.

I would rather the person confess their mortal sins in flip flops & shorts than not attend confession.

NOW - if they were shirtless or something like that, that would be a little different.

God Bless

I saw the recent movie about Fred Rodgers. He asked people to reflect on everybody they could think of that helped them in life.
I thought that was a beautiful Christian message
