So not publicly proclaiming all my sinful desires is living a lie???
A (future) spouse is the public?

(Edit: In a previous post, I mentioned both parties being honest with each other. I didn’t repeat that same thing in the post you commented on.)

You have to understand that a gay person likely lived the first XX (14+) years of their lives being told they were heterosexual, having their friends talk to them about heterosexual things, being asked about their heterosexual attractions. At some point, it just gets to you and you come out, if for nothing more, getting people to stop inundating you with it. The “lie” isn’t not discussing your sexuality; the “lie” is going along with everyone else and pretending you’re heterosexual in order to try to fit in. It gets intensely stressful, especially when you’re worried someone will find out you’re actually not. “Coming out” actually gives you a huge sense of relief, because finally people stop making assumptions about you and pressing you to do things you’re uncomfortable with (though of course you lose a whole lot of friends in the process).

The reality is for most people SSA is temporary. For you it can be temporary too. But first you need to accept that God doesn’t want this for you. Paz.

Scripture says the cause of same-sex attraction? I wonder why the Catholic Church catechism does not teach on that.
Romans 1. I have posted this a dozen times at least.

I have also stated more than once that children can be misled into believing they are homosexual because of sexual abuse, poor parenting or suggestion. I have also stated this more than a dozen times, good grief.

And if it’s allowed by God so that one may exercise virtue over temptation and victory over the fallen nature of this world?

Interesting how you seem so certain to know what God wants for someone.

Interesting you pretend to be objective and authoritative regarding this topic.

God wants me to choose Him! Why can’t you see that SSAs do not hinder that? You can have SSAs and be with God :). Every day, I get to talk to God, and I get to be with Him. Every week at Mass, I get to be close to Him. My SSAs in no way hinder that!

For some people, they may be able to reduce their SSAs through prayer, and God can always work miracles. But I would never act like I need to force him to remove them first. My physical attractions to women could be here until the day I die, and I’d still choose Christ. I want to show other gays and lesbians, many of whom have tried, that they’re not forced to change their attractions to follow Christ. Surely you can get behind that?

I don’t study human genetics. But being around molecular biology, I do have to come across it.
From one professional to another I would prefer if you did not promote very speculative studies or questionable mechanisms as anything but. Since we are not experts in this field we should defer to professionals like Dr. Whitehead. Paz.

Good grief, indeed. One is not to interpret Scripture by their own reason. The Catechism itself does not comment on the cause of same-sex attraction, only that it is disordered and to be resisted against acting upon.

Being misled implicitly into believing wrongly one is gay as a young child is different from accepting the reality as a fully-rational adult.

Certainly people can have SSA and worse and be with God. That does not mean that is God’s will.

Why do you feel the need to tell people that their SSA is not a problem.? Do we Catholics do that with any other disordered on non correct desire? Of course not. Furthermore, when you tell others as a Christian that their SSA is innate you are using the authority as Christ’s representative to mislead this people to a life of suffering. I understand completely that you still have SSA. Nonetheless, that does not mean that it is permanent for everyone one. In fact it is not permanent for you either, and I’m sorry you can’t see that. It is also not up to you to get rid of these desires only trusting in Christ and being patient. I will tell you that forgiveness of others and complete submittal to His Will is important. While I had SSA I was relieved of it. Would the devil like to trap me again? Of course. However, I have faith of what God has made in me and this has severly defeated the devil’s plan to confuse me. I still struggle with normal but still very serious sins such as lust. However, I will not make excuses for it and will be patient that He will heal me in time.

The Catechism says SSA is psychological in origin. FACT.

2357… Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained.

People who disagree with you are part of an agenda. People who agree with you are experts.

OK.

What did I promote that was questionable? That there may be some biological component to sexuality? That’s more speculative than your claim that there’s no genetic component?

Uh…you do realize temptation to sin is not sin, right? And fighting/resisting temptation is virtuous?

And what does forgiveness have to do with SSA?

Is it possible, just possible, that your situation is unique and God delivered you from it for reasons known to Him?

Not everyone gets granted a miracle or healing, physical or spiritual.

At Brief History NARTH’s Melthdown:

In 2006, NARTH had a meltdown after two major controversies. In the first, psychiatrist Joseph Berger, MD, a member of their “Scientific Advisory Committee,” wrote a paper encouraging students to “ridicule” gender variant children. “I suggest, indeed, letting children who wish go to school in clothes of the opposite sex–but not counseling other children to not tease them or hurt their feelings,” Dr. Berger wrote on NARTH’s website. “On the contrary, don’t interfere, and let the other children ridicule the child who has lost that clear boundary between play-acting at home and the reality needs of the outside world. Maybe, in this way, the child will re-establish that necessary boundary.”

In the second controversy, Gerald Schoenwolf, PhD, also a member of NARTH’s “Scientific Advisory Committee,” wrote a polemic on the group’s website that seemed to justify slavery: “With all due respect, there is another way, or other ways, to look at the race issue in America,” wrote Schoenwolf. “It could be pointed out, for example, that Africa at the time of slavery was still primarily a jungle, as yet uncivilized or industrialized. Life there was savage, as savage as the jungle for most people, and that it was the Africans themselves who first enslaved their own people. They sold their own people to other countries, and those brought to Europe, South America, America, and other countries, were in many ways better off than they had been in Africa. But if one even begins to say these things one is quickly shouted down as though one were a complete madman.”

The fallout from this controversy helped cause NARTH’s co-founder and president, Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, to be voted out of his job at the group’s annual meeting. A new President is expected to take the helm in 2008.

In 2006, the American Psychological Association issued a statement that expressed concern that ex-gay or “conversion therapy” was potentially damaging and might create an intolerant and discriminatory political and social climate. According to the statement:

“For over three decades the consensus of the mental health community has been that homosexuality is not an illness and therefore not in need of a cure. The APA’ concern about the position’ espoused by NARTH (The National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality) and so-called conversion therapy is that they are not supported by the science. There is simply no sufficiently scientifically sound evidence that sexual orientation can be changed. Our further concern is that the positions espoused by NARTH and Focus on the Family create an environment in which prejudice and discrimination can flourish.”
