Well, thanks for the lesson. I bring it up in prayer and confession. God Bless you, Tim

Concerning the “Bull of Innocent VII”…that purports to be permission given to the authors of Malleus Malificarum, to act as Inquisitors.
Wasn’t that a forgery, invented by the authors when they couldn’t get permission for real?

Well, the Catholic Encyclopedia didn’t think it was a forgery:
It will be readily understood from the foregoing that the importance attached by many older writers to the Bull, “Summis desiderantes affectibus”, of Pope Innocent VIII (1484), as though this papal document were responsible for the witch mania of the two succeeding centuries, is altogether illusory. Not only had an active campaign against mostforms of sorcery already been going on for a long period, but in the matter of procedure, of punishments, of judges, etc., Innocent’s Bull enacted nothing new. Its direct purport was simply to ratify the powers already conferred upon Henry Institoris and James Sprenger, inquisitors, to deal with persons of every class and with every form of crime (for example, with witchcraft as well as heresy), and it called upon the Bishop of Strasburg to lend the inquisitors all possible support.

Reepicheep must be a heretic trying to deceive us. 😛
Yipe. (Scurries for nearest mousehole) 😃

Edit: (Crouched in mousehole, Reepicheep consults Google. )

Okay, I got the details wrong. It was a couple of years after the publication of Innocent’s Bull that –
" the “Malleus” professed (in part fraudulently) to have been approved by the University of Cologne,"

So Innocent’s Bull was real but the writers of the Malleus did make a false claim concerning the University.

So would you agree that anything that gives us a spirit of love, power, and a sound mind is of God, and anything steals, kills, and destroys is of Satan?
That level of discernment is not to be taken lightly. Power?, Odd thing to think God gives to people. Remember, "for the Kingdom, the power , the glory is yours… Tim

Please be more specific? That doesn’t make much sense in it’s current context.

I can’t , That gets into my personal journey in which I am still discerning. Your right in one thing, most would never notice real evil or what I think a satanist is. My first post mentioned “wolves in sheeps clothing”, not people who play dressup and do rituals… My reference’s of the necromonican and the like is from when I was 12 or 13. I can see why you would laugh at it. But my objective is still playing out. Yes , my hands are blackened somewhat as I mentioned to Valke. I think she understood and bailed accordingly. I did pray the Rosary for you with family last night. I trust in the mercy of Jesus. He was merciful to me, even though I had shaken my fist at Him. He would be merciful to you as well, in hope I say this, not presumption. I can’t say in what context I have come across real evil. This would be judgmental and slanderous. Some are fine people in accord to the world, but I have seen it. Tim

17 The seventy (-two) returned rejoicing, and said, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.”
18 Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
19 Behold, I have given you the power ‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you.
20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
- Luke 10:17-20 (NAB)
Are you a Saint or ordained? The power of the Church united in the body of Christ? Tim

As I have mentioned before, I am in the process of becoming Catholic.
OK, we are powerless on our own. Look into the communion of the Saints. The doctrine of the three parts of the Church united in the body of Christ. Check out the Eucharistic prayer and study the Mass. Tim

Just a reminder, in NCR we allow many different types of discussions of many different philosophies. We leave it to each individual to review the content of the threads and discern its appropriateness.

So far the thread has remained charitable and will remain open as long as the charity level maintains.

Please continue with the discussion.

God bless-

Well, I’m not sure if you can put any differentiating line between real spirituality and the occult… There are many false notions about the topic out there among the public… I have been a practitioner of the occult for many years before I came back to Christ… I have a few points to talk about:

Occultism is a wide range of phenomena… From astrology to zen… Yoga is included as well… In fact, yoga is a magick of the East… Eastern practitioners of the occult tend to practice it more inwardly, while those in the Western circles, by the very nature of our Western civilization, seek a more outward expression of this, hence we have a ceramonial magick full of rituals, etc.

Then, occultism is spiritual, because it is based on spiritual forces and principles… God is condemning all forms of it. That He’s speaking of it in the Bible is a proof that He treats the subject seriously… And that the spiritual side of it is serious and existing… From my long-lasting experience with it I can state that all forms of the occult operate on the same basic principle: using spiritual forces of demonic origin… Whether you go to an astrologer or you practice magick, or anything else, you are opening the doors to demonic influences… It is a long subject and it would take many pages to write everything down…

Another point I would like to discuss briefly is the (false) notion of white and black magick… All magick is black because it’s ungodly… These terms are non-existent and are used to talk to people outside of magickal circles… it is true that some are trying to use magick for good purposes - then we would say that magick is neutral and it only depends on a magician whether he turns black or white… But, the problem is how can we know? Let’s consider this: you make a ritual to obtain $5000. After a week or a month you grandfather dies and leaves you 5000 in his testament… Then, inevitably, your grey money-magick has turned black - and unwillingly you have killed a person… There is no way in telling in which direction it is going to go…

Reincarnation, spiritualism, it’s all the same… No deceased person can come to you - these are demons… There is no UFO or beings on other planets - these are demonic manifestations… If God says we are His creation He is not a liar - if there were other forms on other planets, He would tell us so… There are no ghosts roaming around - these can be a manifestation of demons, or in some cases, of souls in Purgatory… And the list may go on and on…

You need to see Army of Darkness 😃 They’re the ‘magic words’ one has to recite before picking up the Necronomicon, and if you screw up (or, like Ash, forget the last syllable), Bad Things happen.

I do know where it came from though – The Day The Earth Stood Still was a great movie, and yes, I’ve read ‘Farewell to the Master’ 🙂
Actually they’re the words one says to Gort to get him to open the spacehip in “The Day the Earth Stood Still”…a sci fi classic…one of my favorite starring Michael Rennie and Patrica Neal from 1951. Great movie!!!

When I saw the “Army of Darkness” I just laughed at their “stealing” Klaatu’s line and making in ‘magic’.

What was yesterdays “occult/magic” is today’s science fiction…that anyone believes they can call forth demons and devils and work spells is beyond me in this day and age…superstition and magic will be with us a long time I fear.
