Typically the president would do it I think, but he is blowing it off and sending Biden.

Because none of them are senior members of the Executive.
But if there are no Catholics in the executive branch who goes?

I was under the impression that Biden is Pro-Choice cafeteria Catholic, and not exactly on the in as far as doing the Catholic thing right. Granted we shouldn’t judge but…

I don’t blame Obama. I wouldn’t want to be called out either.

Unbelievable…

Sorry for my naiveté…but…do all the countries of the world send a delegation to the “Mass,” I understand going to meet the Man but going to the Mass?

Pretty much. It is as much a diplomatic occasion (like a presidential inauguration or a coronation) as a spiritual one.

Obama’s schedule is planned out to the minute with many critical things, and when it’s not, I’m sure the rest is needed with the stresses of being the President. I’m sure he will have the chance to speak with the pope privately soon enough. As an American and a Catholic, I think that sending Biden is a fine compromise between showing respect for the new pope and fulfilling the President’s duty to country.

Thank you.

I mean really…have we gotten to a point where we attack other catholics as not being catholic enough? In that case why was Paul Ryan offered up as a replacement when he proposed a budget that the bishops said was immoral?

Its simple. Biden is the 2nd highest executive in the US and he’s Catholic…end of story.

I only offered those two people up because I have read and heard that they are faithful and reverent Catholics…and I haven’t heard the same about Biden. I am sorry for upsetting you. I was ignorant of the fact that most countries send delegations and those delegations don’t necessarily have to be Catholic. I have been set straight.

I apologize if I came off as upset it just bothers me when catholics attack other catholics as not being catholic enough. We should be proud that a catholic is VP of the United States no matter if he is Pro-Choice. Again Paul Ryan produced and supports a budget that the Catholic Bishops have said is immoral. While I disagree with most of what he believes in I’m not going to attack the man as not being catholic enough. If he had won the election and were the VP I’d be proud to have our country send our Catholic VP to represent us.

That’s all I’m trying to say…and again sorry if I came off strong it wasn’t my attention…just my hot latin blood. 😃

I guess Nancy Pelosi was too busy.

“Hey Mr. Pope, I’m Joe Biden the pro abortion, pro gay marriage, pro stem cell, pro euthanasia Catholic”

I’m glad to see some charity towards Biden in this thread. I think Biden is a great representative of the American Church as a whole. Sad though it may be, a majority of American Catholics share Biden’s un-Catholic views on some key teachings, so he represents the American Church in that way, but also, Biden is willing to share his feelings about faith on a national stage. What a humble, honest message to send to Pope Francis by Biden’s presence: “Your Holiness, here is the American Church, not perfect, but willing to be honest and open about our feelings, and here to listen to what you have to say.”

I think that Pope Francis should take the opportunity to publicly excommunicate Biden as soon as he meets the American delegation. Biden, after all, should have been excommunicated long ago.

Biden as a “Catholic VP” is a scandal. A HUGE scandal. Why should we be proud of that?!

But isn’t that the problem? We are not perfect… but is Biden really going to listen to what Francis says?

Is that really an honest message to send the Pope?.. here is this VP who doesn’t agree with you on all things and he represents the American Church. There are many on this forum who will definitely not say that Biden represents their views.

You state he has “un-Catholic views” on “some key teachings” isn’t obedience one of the most important things?

Forget about the Paul Ryan thing…I admit that was a poor choice to put in the post above.

**Biden and Mr. President Obama both support abortion on demand. Biden, even though He is a Catholic, still marches to the tune that he is pro-choice. Not only would I not invite Biden, but I would publicly excommunicate Him, Pelosi and Sebellius. Biden supports child murder all the while the Church teaches the total opposite. For Him to recieve Communion in this state, even though I cannot fully judge what is in his hear,t is terryifying to say the least !!:eek::eek:

Biden is setting a poor example for Catholics in the U.S.A. The man has to change his tune or he is no Catholic. He cannot be in support of child salughter via planned parenthood and abortive/contraceptive healthcare and still be a Catholic. What kind of message does this tell the Holy Father? Just today the Holy Father (Bless His Heart) openly declared “Abortion as a death penalty to the unborn” and here you have a man who is represting the U.S.A and arguably American Catholics with a record that is gallons deep in the blood of aborted children. No, this man until He changes the tune of his march and fiddle, is no Catholic. Yes, I went there. **

Oh my. That would not go over well.

Forget it, Biden won’t listen. Hes tied into the love and lust of power and politics to even honestly care. IMO, this is an embarrasment of US Catholics. I would not want a man that supports the holocaust of the innocents to represent me to His Holiness. This is a bold, two faced lie on the part of the administration and to think that they even have the nerve to do this on the international scene is embarrasing, horrendous, scandalous and ridiculous.
