O.K., but if you go all the way back to the start of this thread, you will see we were originally talking about married people using condoms to prevent the tranmission of AIDS.
You have mis-spoken! Condoms do not prevent the transmission of AIDS. This is a widespread misunderstanding that is actually a matter of life and death for the people using the condoms under this false assumption!

Condoms have about an 85% effectiveness rate, as I said that translates to about 3 failures per 20 uses. How is this the answer?, when you keep in mind that a “failure” could mean “AIDS”, which basically means a premature death.

If a woman is so poor she is tempted to put all her trust in condoms so she can be a prostitute, why not simply give her the food or supplies she needs, instead of handing her condoms which are basically a form of russian roulette ?

I am not judging these women who are in such desperate situations. I am serioiusly questioning the wisdom of “helping” them by giving them condoms.

Liberals in America, and on this post: Donate your money to Catholic Charities. We will be the ones there helping out, and educating people about AIDS. We will be the ones there permanently, starting schools and orphanages. I personaly volunteer for some friends of mine from church who are from Benine. In their African country their family has started an orphanage. We raise funds here in the US.
People on this post are right. Condoms will do next to nothing in stopping the epidemic. Fighting poverty, instilling Christian values, and educating the people is what will make a difference. You can bet the Catholics will be at the forefront of this longterm fight. You can go there with your condoms, but you probably won’t go there. You’ll sit here on your fake liberal high horse and criticise a Church that is doing something about AIDS. Name one instance where a condom will be used after Catholic support, that wouldn’t have already been used. Someone who listens to the Church is someone who wouldn’t have been having sex in the first place outside of marriage. The Catholic churches and hosptials in Africa will do STD testing as well as treat and fight the spread of AIDS. Donate to the Church!

Apparently I might be wrong about the numbers there. It has been brought to my attention that the latest studies show that condoms reduce the risk of infection by 85% compared with not using a condom at all which is not the same thing as what I said.

I don’t want to give wrong information.

Cardinal issues SOS for AIDS victims

Vatican, Dec. 14 (CWNews.com) - The president of the Pontifical Council for Health Care has issued an appeal to Catholics for support of AIDS victims.

Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragan spoke at a December 14 press conference discussing the work of the Good Samaritan Foundation, begun by Pope John Paul II in 2004 to support the poor and sick, and particularly AIDS victims. The Mexican cardinal said that he is sending an “SOS to all the Catholics in the world” to support the treatment of AIDS victims. Because the Pontifical Council for Health Care has administrative oversight for the Good Samaritan Foundation, Cardinal Lozano Barragan reported that he has written to bishops throughout the world, seeking support for the initiative. During its first year of operation, the Foundation supplied over $240,000 for AIDS treatments, primarily in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Read more
