And so, equating the pro-abortion candidate and the more prolife candidate does that? Does constantly expressing doubt about the sincerity of the latter do that? Or does it encourage moral relativism that is the shield people use to hide from the truth and support evil?

And they didn’t do it by equating abortion with the precise level of food stamp funding either. One has to admit that equivocating about the evils of contraception, homosexuality and abortion, their predecessors have allowed moral relativism to be held by a very significant number of Catholics. Fortunately, Pope Benedict has appointed some better men like Chaput, Dolan, Jenky and others.

I will follow the teachings of the Church as expressed and interpreted by the Pope and the bishops who have spoken out on the subject, including my own. Many, of course, will substitute their own predilections.

Amen. And the Orthodox clergy that I know are in line with what you have stated here…including my spiritual father. Thank God! 🙂

I just got back from voting. Last minute dash. Voted pro life candidate.

I did not vote for Obama, he’s not pro life. I voted for a pro life candidate.
 
I don’t think it is enough to read letters in church. If the church wants to protect it’s teachings, it has to remove members that teach against them or support laws against them. The only way the church is going to get through to some of these politicians is to throw them out of the church. 40 years ago, the church would of done this in a second. If the leaders of the church don’t start defending the teachings with more vigor, the church will collapse from the inside.

The Church lost it’s “fangs” after Vatican II. It used to be a force to be reckoned with. 😦

Agreed. The “kinder, friendlier” Church has allowed sin and corruption to infest itself throughout the Church.

Yes, a dead child is a dead child. So why do we relish killing them thru environmental harms. We are just a bunch of killers who deny our killing – chips off the old Cain block.

It is very well established that anthropogenic global warming (MMGW) is real and really harmful (as well as many other enviornmental problems) – just read the science in the science journals. There is no dissent about anthropogenic climate change, except from the oily climate denialist industry fakexperts and the people who are eagerly and willingly bamboozled by them. There is a reality beyond what people wrongly believe, and that reality has real consequences. Turning a blind eye to MMGW won’t make it go away – we need to do the hard work of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.

It is one thing to kill people. It is I think a much greater sin to deny any role in that killing of people.

Now the election is over, but our killing is not over. We are persisting in that, bec one can’t legislate morality, and it is really sad the tremendous hatred of life, of babies, the young, the unborn, the yet-to-be-born.

I’m thinking if one is truly concerned about abortion, then perhaps going along with the environmentalist crowd – at least reducing one’s pollution and greenhouse gases in cost-effective ways that either saves them money or does not cost, without one iota of sacrifice in living standards or productivity – would help to lend credibility to the abortion issue. Just an idea. Making environmentalists hate conservatives is perhaps not a very good strategy.

I showed that video of the Romney convention dismissal of climate change superimposed with Sandy to my graduate class last night. We were taking short breaks to look into election results and discuss issues – this is heavy Democrat territory so nearly all were rooting for Obama. I told them that the big issue for me was climate change, but that I was also very concerned about abortion, which I had been against for over 50 years, even well before I became a Catholic. I told them that bec of the abortion issue I had earlier been seriously considering voting for Romney, even though I had big problems with other aspects of his platform (which to my knowledge before the convention did not include mention of climate change). My vague understanding until that conventions speech that as governor he accepted the science of climage change, that it was a serious problem.

It was that rude, nasty, facetious dismissal of climate change in the convention, plunging a deep dagger into my heart, plus his snide remark that he couldn’t drive with a wind-generator on his car (tho we are driving our Volt just fine on 100% wind-generated electricity), that had turned me against him, and made me understand he was pro-death in sheep’s clothing of anti-abortion. If he had just kept silent on the climate change issue I may have voted for him. What I saw in him that night was a ruthless person who would sacrifice life on earth just to get oil money to run his campaign and please his willingly bamboozled supporters.

Environmental issues are not left or right issues, they are not political issues, they are life issues. Environmental realities are not determined by peoples fears of various policies. If we fear some policy, well there’s more than one way to skin a cat, let’s look for policies that have good pay-offs for us while solving the problems. God gave us brains; let’s use them. Be not afraid. Jesus is with us to the end of time.
 
To make weather morally equal to abortion is absurdity of the highest order.
