no, the election was not a persecution. The man who won the election is doing all the persecuting, and is likely to continue it for the next 4 years.
And? Our faith is in Christ, who promised even the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church, and that He would be with us until the consummation of the world. Throughout man’s history God has set man through trials and tribulations, much worse than what we are seeing.
Mat 5:43 You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thy enemy.
Mat 5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you:
Mat 5:45 That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.
Mat 5:46 For if you love them that love you, what reward shall you have? do not even the publicans this?
Mat 5:47 And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more? do not also the heathens this?
Mat 5:48 Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect.
This could be a long ride if God is going to let things continue until we get this passage right…

He will more likely increase the persecuting of faithful Catholics now that liberals believe they have been validated by the election results.

Oh!!! That makes perfect sense now.

Vote for and defend someone persecuting the Church of Jesus Christ because He said that people would try to persecute the church.

He didn’t say enable and support those persecuting us. He simply said it would happen.

In fact, when you enable and support them, YOU become one of those who are persecuting the church.

I did not vote for Obama, and I did not support Romney. I opted to write in a vote for that office, and cast votes in the other elections on my ballot.

I do not persecute the Church, in part, or in whole.

I place my faith and hope in Christ, no matter what man is what in an office on this world

Please point out what you found in my post that specifically supported a politician.

I would never look forward to a day that the Church would lose just one, much less anymore, and I don’t believe that is Christ’s intention for the Church. We should be evangelizing others, not pushing away, or withdrawing from those joined in the body of Christ, and I don’t believe you’d find the Church teaching such a measure.
The Church will lose no one except those enemies of God intent upon her destruction, and who, by their own choice, refuse to believe in her teachings. Yes, I’ll repeat - I look forward to the day when remnant Catholics are united in their faith and in their morals - when the dissidents stop the heresy and cease attacking all that is holy from within. The destroyers, by their own admission, only stay within the Church to affect change that has withstood 2,000 years of onslaught. Let there be a purification…we are seeing signs of it now and this is what our precious Benedict alluded to. We will always pray for their salvation, but should not tolerate that they deliberately undermine the faith of others. Your Pollyanna approach may not quite yield the results you hope. Satan is alive and well…did you not hear? God’s grace is open to all, but it must be accepted with a repentant heart. He forces no one.

guess what: by writing in, you gave half a vote for obama, because ANY write in candidate has virtually no chance of winning.

Satan is alive, yet the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church.

God has placed many trials and tribulations on men since the beginning of time, to draw them near. Sometimes His purpose is not our purpose. We have our commands from Christ.

No, I didn’t. I followed Church teachings and voted accordingly.

I know people are disappointed, but attacking each other is not the solution, in fact I see it working completely the opposite. 🤷

"Maybe we are facing a new and different kind of epoch in the church’s history, where Christianity will again be characterized more by the mustard seed, where it will exist in small, seemingly insignificant groups that nonetheless live an intense struggle against evil and bring good into the world - that let God in.

Someday, the West will tire of secularism and spiritual loneliness. And they will discover the little community of believers as something quite new, as a hope that is there for them, as the answer they have always been looking for."
Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger

It’s a pretty clear theme that Catholics are supposed to vote their conscience.

I’m just not convinced that write-ins and third-party support out of a purist motive—either spiritual or on some secular principle—will sit too well with people for too long.

As time goes on, I expect those who did not vote or who did not vote for Romney to regret that decision and will find it much harder to defend, and it may come sooner rather than later.

I respect your positions, Prodigal Son, but I’ve never been sold on the idea that people will defend their non-Romney votes in perpetuity and purist principles have been very costly in this election and especially to the pro-life movement.

I don’t think that the last 3-4 generations really understand how bad this could get. Even the so-called poor in this country have a lot to lose.

The reality is that we have a legislative Senate and an executive branch loaded with radicals, some of whom don’t have to worry about re-election. The Supreme Court’s decisions will be a guessing game after what happened with the AHA.

Then I say leave it to the hierarchy of the authoritative men of the Church. Laypersons are on the bottom of that chain of command. While Christ will cull goats and sheep, He gave no such instructions for the laity of the Church He built.
Really??
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops, like bishops, and your religious act like religious.”
~ Ab Fulton J. Sheen ~
“when circumstances make it necessary, it is not prelates alone who have to watch over the integrity of the faith.”
~ Pope Leo XIII ~
“Augustine says in his Rule: ‘Show mercy not only to yourselves, but also to him who, being in the higher position among you, is therefore in greater danger.’ But fraternal correction is a work of mercy. Therefore even prelates ought to be corrected.”
St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica II, II, q. 33, a. 4, Sed Contra.

I agree with this.

I wish that all of the Bishops would have commanded all of the priests in the United States to read such letters. Unfortunately, no such letter was read here in the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana.

It wouldnt have made a difference in the results…

The ONLY way that some will quit voting for candidates that support abortion and the HHS mandate would be if they really were afraid that such a vote was a mortal sin and that they would go to Hell for it!

As long as some Catholics aren’t afraid of going to Hell–they will do anything they want to do!

Maybe they should be point blank asked to their face–would Jesus perform an abortion?

Of course not!

Then why do they vote for people that support that?

It is past time that the truth be spoken to our fellow Catholics.

It was spoken to Catholics who supported slavery during the Civil War days.

If slavery was unacceptable why is killing the unborn acceptable?

Yes. Sometimes I get lambasted by liberals for being a one issue voter. I ask them if Christ would be a one issue voter. What would Christ be more concerned about: The economy? The environment? Immigration? A free Obama phone? Healthcare?

The death of 55 million of his children in the womb? That usually silences them.

We have Christians who voted for a man who supports abortion on demand and infanticide…a man who supports the funding of the abortion mill Planned Parenthood!!! It is absolutely dumbfounding to me that any Christian is able to justify such a vote.

Because they won’t come right out and say what they mean in plain English in a soundbite the average Catholic can comprehend. That’s the problem.
