Annunciata…that song makes me feel sad
:crying: Not all Christmas music does …I’m actually feeling okay.

I’ll Be Home For Christmas has been playing alot. That song rips a giant hole in my heart. I’t makes me think about who will NOT be home this Christmas.
Yep that song is a real 3 hankie number! When I hear it, the veil over the past 50 years lifts and I see and hear my parents, grandma and us kids at home during the Christmas holidays.

Guess what? Christmas is starting to look GREEN!:bounce:

Some of those awful clouds have lifted…I went to Adoration last night and came out a new woman! Praise God! The hour past as if it were only 15 minutes and DH was sitting right beside me…he’s such a love. God has been so good to me…can never thank Him enough!
I pray that I will always have a grateful heart.

God bless all of you.

I’m expecting this Christmas to be a little blue. It’s our first Christmas since we lost my grandma, and it will be only the second one that I can remember that she hasn’t come to my parents’ home for Christmas Eve dinner. It hasn’t really hit yet but I think it will then.

Please pray for my co-worker. She lost one of her daughters a year ago this week, and her son was killed several years ago, also in December. She’s having a rough time.

Two years ago, My DH died on our son’s 9th birthday. Every holiday since then has been a real struggle. We try very hard to focus on WHY we celebrate this wonderful holiday. Some days are easier then others.

May God heal all the lonely, broken hearted people this season and shine His mercy upon us.

Anyone who has experienced a major loss will tell you that it takes more than three years to get to a new normal.

Gosh, it has been four years since our daughter has died and had it not been a for newly adopted son, I am sure I would be having the usual moments of grief interspersed with the good.

We haven’t put up the tree yet and that is usually a poignant time. We have “Claire” ornaments and they always bring her memories back.

Take care of yourself as best you can and don’t be hard on yourself for your tears. I am very sorry to know you lost your husband. It is hard enough to lose a child, but I had my husband to help me get through it.

Mary is awesome in ability to help us, too.

I’ll certainly remember her in my prayers… God Bless, Annunciata:)

But that said, this year I’m not doing as bad as in years past because I managed to get involved in some new activities that are interesting to me and get me out of the house. …
I’m sorry for your family situation…but it sounds like you have a good grip on yourself…I find that keeping busy helps too…
God Bless,
Annunciata:)

It sounds like many of us get blue during this time. I try to remember to offer it up.
Pope John Paul II wrote:
“In bringing about the Redemption through suffering, Christ raised human suffering to the level of the Redemption. Thus each man, in his sufferings, can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ” (Salvifici Doloris).

Does anyone else ever get “Blue” during the Christmas Season?

I know I do… even trying to make the best of it…just always a blink away from tears.

Anyone else share the same symptoms?

Hello All 🙂

I’ve been battling the “Christmas Blues” for a few years now. I just gave birth a few weeks ago, and have some “baby blues” as well…which I don’t understand cuz my daughter is an ANGEL, so its worse this year.
I think all of us, not just women ( who typically are the “doers” during this season), need to remember that we’re not all Martha Stewarts thank goodness, and that we need to take time for ourselves as well. “NO” is not a dirty word, and I think lots of us try to have these perfect Christmases and end up stressing ourselves out. We need to take time to rest, relax, and maybe perhaps “think like a child” about this time of year.

God bless you all~~Happy Holidays!!

Leah

I don’t know if you realize it but what you are experiencing is what Advent is all about. It is about coming out of the dark into the light.

Some encouraging quotes from Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB:

“Advent enables us to consider again what it is about the spiritual life that is trying to be born in us again; a new desire for God, the hope in God’s goodness, the signs of God around us that we so often overlook, the awareness of God in strange places. Without Advent, we run the risk of missing Christmas, too.”

“Advent is a search in the dark. It is a call to live wide awake Philip Berrigan and Elizabeth McAlister wrote; ‘so that we can be alert to God working in us…’ It is the call to tend again whatever lights may be dying in our own hearts and to wait for those to be enkindled however they can.”

“The basic message of Advent is that hope never dies; not our hope in God or God’s hope in us.”

Oh no, not Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB:

Oh, I did a google on her. I see she is considered a “dissenter” by some. I was not aware of that. Seems she is infavor of women priests. Oh well, no one is perfect.

btw–I still think her sentiments about Advent are beautiful and inspiring. My pastor gave us these quotes at an Advent retreat I went to last weekend. I will have to ask him what his opinion of Sr. Joan is.

Sorry to derail the thread. I just needed to clear that up for myself.

Hi Cove,
I’m sorry, I should have told you why I reacted the way I did.
Yes, she is considered a dissenter. It’s too bad because she does have some beautiful things to say. It will be interesting to hear what your Pastor has to say about her.

I love this post! Dear Annunciate–thx for posing it. X-mas always is a time for sentiment, and for remembering times past, whether good or bad. I really feel for those who had less than a good childhood. I had a fabulous one, so I can’t relate–though my heart does go out to the many for whom it is a “Blue” Time for.

I always am on the verge of tears anyway, any time of year, am probably nuts on this one, but to all those reading this. God Loves You all no matter what family you had. Christmas is a time of Hope. Bring this Hope to those in your circle of life. Yes, I cry at every Christmas song, and every TV special on. This is normal Annunciata. This time of year always brings to most folks, tears of joy, tears of heartache, tears of praise, tears of thankfulness. Let’s be glad for our tears, for it lets us all know we are human, that we can still feel, in this world today.

God Bless You Friend~~
