David Bowie regretted coming out as bisexual during that time. The press in America always brought it up. I can understand why Freddie chose to hide it.

What people do with their own popularity and influence is one thing. But Queen produced good music. Please tell me how “We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions” are anti-Christian songs?

If I go to starbucks and buy a coffee, I’m not supporting who they choose to donate their own money to or what they personally believe in, I’m just buying a product.

This whole conversation strikes me as very “pharisean”

You can pick and choose songs that aren’t “anti-Christian”. It’s more about someone’s life and the extent that they are promoting anti-Christian values. To some degree for me it is more of a consumer issue - - do I want to support artists who are openly promoting anti-Christian values? I don’t think it’s a big deal to listen to some songs here and there, I think it’s just that people can be swayed by someone’s moral view without realizing it:

“But it is undeniable that Mercury’s role in bringing ‘queerness’ into the public eye has played a major part in helping the public become more accepting of those of a different sexuality.”

As for Starbucks, I think that if the company is openly promoting anti-Christian (or anti-traditional) values, and you know that going in to buy a coffee, then you are indeed supporting that cause, even if it’s in a tiny way. Why do you think the LGBT crowd has such a problem with Chick-Fil-A?

It’s not sinful to like a musician who is an LGBT icon. You can still remain a faithful catholic. This whole conversation is soooo legalistic that I can’t even…

So you’re telling me I have to avert my eyes when Lord of the Rings comes on? Ian McKellen is VERY gay and supports same sex marriage. I rarely find catholics who say we can’t watch Lord of the Rings.

Is he promoting a gay lifestyle during LOTR?

It may be that he is a such a gay icon that someone couldn’t watch LOTR without thinking of him adn his lifestyle. I really don’t know. In that case, some people may not want to watch it. I don’t know.

Even if he was, a sensible catholic can separate art from agenda. This conversation is bogus.

Sometimes I just feel like some of the members of this forum are living under a rock.

Hope, you still need to speak to your pastor or spiritual director for guidance here.

Freddie was the unquestionable leader of the band though, and his charisma made Queen what it was.
I’m not going to dispute this but when I’m in the mood to irk Freddie fans (when they have a hate-on for Queen+Adam Lambert) I remind them that each member’s solo work was kind of a dud, including Freddie’s.

I think it’s more than his charisma alone; each member contributed their own songs but they ultimately collaborated so much that in the end the song writing credits were shared on many songs. I think the genius each brought to the music is what made them great. But every band needs a strong frontman and Freddie brought it. And, if I may say so, Adam Lambert brings it, too. He’s got the vocal chops (not equal to Freddie’s though) and brings his own charisma; he’s not a pretender to the throne. If he was, the QAL tours/concerts should be failures. I was lucky enough to see them last year and I can die a happy woman now. 👼 No, seriously. Queen’s music is a major part of the soundtrack of my life and to see Roger and Brian playing right in front of me was amazing. Do I wish John was there on bass? Absolutely. Do I wish Freddie was still here, singing and they were releasing new songs? Yes. But I felt Freddie’s spirit, and I heard John with every throb of the bass.

Um…I wasn’t going to fangirl…oh, well. 😍

Can we agree that he was the unofficial leader of the band? Much like Jerry Garcia was of the Grateful Dead? Or Jim Morrison of the Doors?

I think so. I draw the line at saying it’s not Queen without him. The band didn’t break up, Freddie died.

I agree with that. But the doors were definitely not the doors without Jim Morrison.

Wasn’t calling out anyone specific. I didn’t run out of arguments. But I did run out of time. Work

Another helpful article opinion piece:

Right. Your articles are opinion pieces.

We are called to live in the world not away from it. It’s not sinful to like music made by an lgbt icon. You’re overreaching

It’s not a sin to see a movie. Especially this movie.
Since no one has seen the movie to confirm the content, we cannot really say that with complete certainty. 😉

But considering Sasha Baron Coen dropped out because they didn’t want to include graphic sex scenes and make Mercury’s sexuality more of a focus, I’m going to bet it’s going to be fine.

There’s a difference between a sex scene in a movie and porn. My two cents
