As several posters have claimed that “study after study” has shown that LGBTs are no more likely to abuse minors than heterosexuals, we should probably look at some stats.
The actual size of the population that identifies as LGBT in America is 3.4%, per Gallup. (

If the premise were true, we would expect that only 3.4% or less of the total number of sexual assaults on children were committed by molesters of the same sex as the victim. Even if we include the largest claimed percentage of individuals who have had sex with a member of the same sex at some point in their life (10%, per Kinsey), there should be no more than 10% homosexual molestations.
However, what we find instead is that approximately 1/3 of all child molestations are homosexual (the vast majority of them male offenders against male victims) - a number of assaults far out of proportion to homosexual representation in the population. (Kurt Freund, Robin Watson, and Douglas Rienzo, “Heterosexuality, Homosexuality, and Erotic Age Preference,” The Journal of Sex Research 26, No. 1 (February, 1989): 107)
By no means are all homosexuals having sex acts with minors, but those that do are responsible for a significantly higher proportion of the assaults. This means that homosexuality represents a significant risk factor for those involved in youth-mentoring organizations.
Interviews with convicted pedophiles have determined that approximately 1/3 of them had a primary sexual interest in homosexual molestation - again, if the American population is only 3.4% LGBT, or at most 10%, why are they responsible for such a high proportion of the assaults on minors?
The simple explanation is that homosexuals give us a view of how human sexuality functions when it is disordered and does not have the God-given virtue of complementarity, with the male moderating the actions of the female and the female moderating the actions of the male.
In extremis, we would expect the male without the moderating influence of attraction to females to become wildly promiscuous, and this is what we see in male homosexual relationships - they have a far higher number of sexual partners over their lifetimes, which is why HIV/AIDS had such a horrible impact on the male gay community and why the rate of overall STD transmission is much higher for male homosexuals.
When homosexual pederasts have an interest in minors, they have a much, much higher number of victims than heterosexual molesters. Their recidivism rate is also much higher and they are less amenable to therapy.
One could argue that these aren’t “true gays” doing this because gay people aren’t “pedophiles,” but that is just the “No True Scotsman” logical fallacy in action. Whether you consider these molesters gay or not, they certainly do. 86% of convicted molesters involved in male against male offenses against a minor self-identify as gay or bisexual. (W. D. Erickson, “Behavior Patterns of Child Molesters,” Archives of Sexual Behavior 17 (1988): 83.)
It’s hard to determine what percentage of the adult male homosexual population has an active interest in minors, and what percentage of those would be likely to act on those urges. One study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior compared the sexual age preferences of heterosexual men, heterosexual women, homosexual men, and lesbians. The results showed that, in marked contrast to the other three categories, “all but 9 of the 48 homosexual men preferred the youngest two male age categories,” which included males as young as age fifteen." (Zebulon A. Silverthorne and Vernon L. Quinsey, “Sexual Partner Age Preferences of Homosexual and Heterosexual Men and Women,” p.73.) Given the research base showing a higher proportion of sexual interest and contact with children, and its celebration in much of gay literature as a “coming out” experience, prudence would dictate that homosexual men should not be in leadership positions within the Boy Scouts. If we weigh the risk of hurting the feelings and possible calumny against gay men who are interested in serving as an adult leader, but have no sexual interest in anyone under the age of 18, versus the catastrophic effects of a child in the scouts having sexual contact with an adult male, the choice should be obvious.
