See end hash tag.
To be fair, many media organizations will just use trendy hashtags associated with the issue to reach the greatest number of Twitter users, regardless of issue. If there was a popular pro-life hashtag, it probably would have been included too.

With that said, :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Texas! 😃

They may have managed to pass the bill, but there are lots of pretty pictures of them confiscating tampons and pads from women wishing to enter the gallery. You couldn’t pay for better symbolism and I think it will come back to bite them in the next election.

Feces confiscated at TX capitol as abortion bill voting takes place
DPS
Jul 12, 2013 4:35 p.m.
AUSTIN, TEXAS (DPS) - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today received information that individuals planned to use a variety of items or props to disrupt legislative proceedings at the Texas Capitol.
Therefore for safety purposes, DPS recommended to the State Preservation Board that all bags be inspected prior to allowing individuals to enter the Senate gallery, which the State Preservation Board authorized.
During these inspections, DPS officers have thus far discovered one jar suspected to contain urine, 18 jars suspected to contain feces, and three bottles suspected to contain paint. All of these items - as well as significant quantities of feminine hygiene products, glitter and confetti possessed by individuals - were required to be discarded; otherwise those individuals were denied entry into the gallery.
In the interest of the safety and security of Texas legislators and the general public, these inspections will continue until the conclusion of Senate business.

Do you approve of these things being removed from attendees? Do you think people should have a right to bring tampons and pads into a senate gallery? What do you think was the purpose of bringing the things that were confiscated?

RE: Abyssinia’s question. There has been a lot of confusion and misinformation about which side did what. To look at some of the media show it, there were barely any pro-lifers there, which was definitely not the case. I was there. If those items were the price of admission, so be it. My understanding is that they did it because of the threat that these items were going to be thrown at the pro-life politicians after the vote. This had been rumored all morning. I was only there from about 2:30 until about 6 p.m but after all I’d seen that day and on July 2 and July 7, it would not have surprised me.

I kept seeing things after I got home that the troopers were recommending pro-lifers stay away from the Capitol for their protection. I saw a tweeted picture of some pro-lifers holed up in offices for their protection.

I don’t know about all the veracity of all of these things since I left. I did see really ugly signs and taunting on the part of the pro-abortionists. For the most part, it seemed peaceful relative to violence (I really don’t think either side was about that) but definitely not quiet or respectful on the side of the pro-abortionists. I did see engaging on both sides and, unfortunately, the first day I was there , I myself engaged someone. So there was that.

“We do believe that there are definitely parts of this law that are unconstitutional,” she said.
“We’ve made that case repeatedly to the state legislature, but they don’t seem to be interested in facts, in science, in medicine, or frankly, in the will of the people of Texas.”

Poll was done University of Texas/Texas Tribune
The poll split a question about abortions after 20 weeks — an effort to see whether talking in the context of fetal pain changed the responses of Texas voters. It didn’t: 62 percent said they would support “prohibiting abortions after 20 weeks based on the argument that a fetus can feel pain at that point,” and that same percentage said they support “prohibiting abortions after 20 weeks.” Nearly half — 49 percent in the first question and 47 percent in the second — said they would strongly support those prohibitions.

:extrahappy: :extrahappy: :extrahappy: THE BILL HAS PASSED! Despite huge amounts of controversy and gross misconduct and attempts to disrupt the democratic process, (including people throwing tampons, shouting down pro-lifers, attempts to throw glitter and at least one jar of urine, and it was bad enough that pro-lifers were being told to hide in congressmen’s offices) The bill was still able to pass! Praise the lord! For only he could lead people to have the courage to keep going despite all this
Don’t get me wrong, I was for this bill as well. But the tactics used to get it passed were not exactly innocent either.

After failing the first time due to lengthy filibustering, when they retried in the 3rd special session. The Republican dictators just severely limited filibustering and just shoved their way through in un-American fashion.

And what will happen to these newborns? Texas does not even have Medicaid, they have their own very pared down version. Texas tea partiers are not exactly friendly to welfare for these babies either.

One party dictatorship to me is more like the old Soviet dictatorship when the only ones allowed to vote were Communists. Texas has essentially done something similar with gerrymandering and voter ID.

I wouldn’t mind if they did away with filibustering altogether, actually. Problem is they won’t because they know they’ll be the ones doing it next time they’re on the outside looking in.

And one would hope that the possibility that these children will now actually be born will serve as a tangible incentive for policymakers to improve the social welfare system for said children.

Do you have a problem with California having a majority democrat legislature?

I do not know if there is anybody that can corroborate this, but this has been claimed regarding Wendy Davies:
This is a person who led the filibustering and rallied the mob (who outnumbered the peace-keeping officers of the chamber) that disrupted the legislative process to such an extent that it was impossible for members to vote until after the midnight deadline passed.
lifenews.com/2013/07/09/no-surprise-abortion-activists-are-nasty-theyre-defending-unlimited-abortions

The disruption from those in the senate gallery opposed to the bill disrupted the legislative process and don’t you think it was fair that a second vote was done because of that gallery disruption?

Wendy Davies fillibuster was stopped because of the following:
Lieutenant Gov. David Dewhurst ruled that Davis has three times violated the Texas Senate’s procedural rules for a filibuster, which requires a senator to stand continually without assistance and remain on topic.
“There’s a three strikes, you’re out precedent in the Senate that allows senators two warnings about staying germane to the bill topic,” Texas Tribune reporter Becca Aaronson explains. “On the third strike, a simple majority of the Senate can vote to end debate and the senator must yield the floor.”
The first strike came when Davis mentioned Planned Parenthood’s budget, which was ruled not germane to the conversation. The second strike happened at 7:27 p.m. when a colleague of Davis’ helped her adjust a back brace, which you can watch here:
The last strike came at 10:07 p.m. when Davis began discussing a 2011 sonogram law that Texas passed, according to Aaronson.
This is all a bit in flux: One of Davis’ democratic colleagues has moved to challenge Dewhurst’s ruling. Davis’ filibuster appears to be down, but its not quite out.

The first bill only failed by the rule of law per being voted on late. I understand the supporters of infanticide, the Democrats did some rule breaking as well. Amazing, what abortion supporters say.

The usual canard. So you suggest better to abort babies than let them take their chances with the Texas Medicaid system?

Texas “Tea Party” members’ philosophy about taking other people’s money is irrelevant. Texas doesn’t have a state income tax so how do they impact “welfare babies?” Further you assume that all babies that would have been aborted at 20+ weeks are welfare babies? You presume that were the mother unable to take care of the child that no one would adopt? You presume there are not charities, including and maybe MOSTLY Catholic charities that would toss out a woman and baby into the streets?

These are the usual canards that are pulled out to claim that women “need” the right to kill unborn babies…PUH LEASE try that someplace other than a Catholic forum and you might have more luck.

To which tactics are you referring. The governor can call a second special session if he wishes, just like Wendy Davis could have filibustered again but decided not to. That’s just what’s allowable in politics. I could say that filibustering is thwarting the democratic process, could I not? Each side did what they were allowed to do. Our state is a Pro-life Conservative state. Many of us have chosen to live here for that reason. If you don’t like it, there are many other states to live in.

You’re making a lot of assumptions here. That all newborns in the 2nd trimester are aborted due to financial issues. We have WIC, Medicaid, Churches. I would say, "Where is Planned Parenthood if they really support ‘choice’. Why don’t they have any programs to help moms who have made the choice to allow their babies to live. What about the parents of the newborns and their parents.

One party dictatorship to me is more like the old Soviet dictatorship when the only ones allowed to vote were Communists. Texas has essentially done something similar with gerrymandering and voter ID.*
As much as you would like to call it a dictatorship, we are a red state. We elected these officials. If Perry would seek another term, I would vote for him again. Would you consider predominantly blue states dictatorial???***

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_state_legislatures

From the list on the wikipedia article, you can see how many states have at least control of the House and Senate by one party. Kentucky and New Hampshire being exceptions. In a number of States, you have the Governorship falling into that pattern as well.

It is so common, it appears incredulous to single out Texas on this, call it a dictatorship and like the old Soviet Union.

Your sex life is at stake. Can you think of anything that kills the vibe faster than a woman fearing a back-alley abortion? Making abortion essentially inaccessible in Texas will add an anxiety to sex that will drastically undercut its joys. And don’t be surprised if casual sex outside of relationships becomes far more difficult to come by.
You want to decide when and if to have kids. This bill will force thousands of Texas men into unplanned fatherhood by making it impossible for women to access an abortion in the event of an unplanned pregnancy. Even if you want to have kids, you probably don’t want an accident to make you a father before you’re psychologically ready and able to care for a child. If you don’t want kids, you don’t want the narrow, personal views of politicians in the state government to force you to have them.

townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2013/07/10/proabort-wanrs-late-term-abortion-ban-means-less-sex-for-men-you-know-n1638047

This was in response to a PRO ABORTION blogger who said if you “stand with women” you will preserve the ability to have unprotected sex with women about whom you do not care nor the child you two may create. As she sums it up:

***Sherman’s post can really be summed up in one sentence: The sex lives of men are way more important than the lives of unborn children, so please, keep late term abortion available for women. Men like Sherman are still free to have irresponsible sex with as many women as they want, HB2 doesn’t limit their behavior. Nothing is stopping the sick bastards from asking (or forcing) women to get an abortion before the five-month mark. ***

Isn’t this truly disgusting? Once you peel away the layers of fluff and phony concern, the reality is that easy abortion has allowed MALES to be irresponsible as well. We all know that many women do not want to abort their babies but are pressured by the males (they are not MEN) because they don’t want to assume responsibility for protecting their women or their children.

What a hideous generation Roe has created. Those who survived are not willing to give the same consideration to the children THEY created. The truth hurts and the truth is that protecting access to lust, pleasure and fun are not reasons to kill another person.
