It’s wonderful to hear from you brother. May God bless you each day with the gifts of perseverance and trust.
Amen.

Brother Jay, in 2009 when my cancer relapsed immediately after chemo, it appeared that I had a few months left (all glory to God!). I believed that I was dying, and I found the grace to abandon all claim that I thought I had on my life. It was wonderfully freeing. Of course, the Lord was waiting for me to trust Him and when I did, He handed my life back to me. I still tear-up when I think about it.

Are you saying that you now have four potentially terminal conditions? Good thing that we have a sure hope of salvation!

It’s really the combination. My leukemia cells are not showing up since Christmas. I think that was the last time. I have so many tests that after a while, I can’t remember which one I had yesterday and which one I had last year.

But I have a combination of medical conditions, none of which can be cured. You can only treat the symptoms. They seem to operate in tandem, as I call it, one setting off the other like dominos. They just group it under one heading. I like the specificity, because you know what to expect. You see? God is good. 🙂

Yes! I liken our existence to a wall which begins beside us and extends into eternity. There is a line painted on that wall that represents our life. The first inch of the line is painted red. It represents this present life of trial on earth. The remainder of that line is infinite, and represents our perfected existence in the joy of the Beatific Vision. When considered, that first inch is a tiny price to pay for such a beautiful and unending reward! And, this life is only partially that of suffering. Partaking of the Divine Nature, receiving Divine Mercy, we have the foretaste of perfection.

Lord hear our prayer for Brother JR.

O Lord, my God, pay heed to my prayer. Look with mercy on my desire, which is not concerned with myself alone but with my neighbor’s good as well --Confessions 11,2 Augustine

Thank you Brother Jay for your tailor made inspiration for us.
And thanks also to Church Militant.

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Dear Brother JR,

Its so lovely to hear from you. Your stage of the journey of faith sounds lovely - like being taken by the hand and walking peacefully with God and having the opportunity to share life more intimately. I just wonder whether despite the body tiring, your soul will embark on the most exciting voyage of discovery and growth? Who knows, God loves to surprise us in the most delightful way at times.

May God shower many blessings on you.

PS. You are always in my daily prayers and should you arrive in Purgatory, rest assured that there will be a barrage of prayers traveling with you and waiting for you.

The spiritual journey of each of us is going to be tailor made by God just for us.
…my Divine Tailor has put together a journey for me that is not what I wanted, but it is what I need. I always say, God loves us so much and he wants nothing more than to save our sorry butts that he does cartwheels to save us. This can mean tailor making our journey through history.
Brother, thank you so much for keeping in touch with us. Your posts still inspire, even when they are an update on your physical condition. 🙂

Good Friar,

Please, don’t apologize for a long post. You are one of many teachers, and one who is teaching as they can. If it takes 10 paragraphs to teach the lesson, then teach the lesson.

Do what you do as best you’re able, and remember - we are, in a very real way, your students as much as any novice in your community. Not in the same way, but a very real way.

Lord hear our prayer for Brother JR and the children.

I’m sending Church Militant a private message and hoping he can update on Brother Jay. Hopefully, no news (this thread has been inactive and silent) is good news.

God bless Brother Jay!
