grotto, I honestly believe that one of the main reasons why nothing gets accomplished is that many of the politicians have no religion or respect for religion.
They claim to be motivated by “love for all mankind,” but the truth is, they love to hear songs about love, and attend shows about love, and wear shirts and post memes about love–but they don’t actually love the people that are so desperately in need of help.
We who are Christians have Christ in us, and HE loves everyone no matter what their circumstances, and His love in us constrains us to help in some way–prayers, time, talents, monies, etc…
Christians have different ideas of the best way to help. Some think it’s better to teach a person to fish so that they are equipped to “catch” their own sustenance, while others insist that we must give fish to those who are in need.
They’re both good, and depending on where the suffering person is in their life, one might be more appropriate than the other.
Christianity isn’t the only “religion” that teaches followers to help the poor.
So I believe that until religious faith is included in the work of the government, the unfortunate ones will not receive the help they so desperately need. They’ll get a lot of lip service and perhaps a celebrity concert “event” with the politicians and city leaders showing up to hold hands and wear t-shirts with a touching slogan–but they won’t bring about any legislation or public policy that actually has a chance of helping those who are desperately in need of help.
JMO. And we Christians certainly don’t have to wait for a “policy” to start helping those in our circle of influence. We won’t save everyone, but we can make a huge difference to one or a few people.
