I agree - it is a beautiful city. I even lived there for a few years. But when the city itself does something like this:
http://lifesite-cache.s3.amazonaws....esite/shutterstock_144094330_810_500_s_c1.jpg
It’s slightly difficult to separate the two.
I never saw city hall lighted like that, ever. It was probably done one time or a week for ‘pride’ week.

IOW the exception, not the rule. It’s like all the people overeacting to one BK having a rainbow colored wrapper, one time at one location. And vowing never to eat at any burger king ever again.

OVERKILL

By agreeing that “we’re all the same inside” and helping support scholarships for LGBT kids, I’m going against God’s commandments?

I guess I misheard the commandment that said “thou shall not affirm the human dignity of gays and lesbians” when I went through RCIA.
Matter of fact the CCC says the exact opposite.

Actively gay people have a visible sign that they are gay in the fact that they have their partner with them in public on occasion. That’s not that interesting, anymore than it’s obvious that an actively straight man is straight if he has a girl on his arm at the movies.

Gay people who are single are only identifiable by other gay people through gaydar. To an extent, it’s nice in that non-gay people aren’t rude to you specifically. To an extent, it’s horrible because some people confide in you how horrible they think gay people are without realizing who they’re talking to.
I am uncertain I see a problem with ‘preaching’ (as you put it) to someone actively sinning.

Whilst I’m sure there are occasions where do you pick someone is gay, what you are missing is how often you don’t realise.

I can’t count the number of times someone has said something less than pleasant about gays because they don’t realise that I am a lesbian myself. I’m not out, except to a very small number of people, so everyone assumes I am straight.

Trust us, you’re not picking it most of the time.
👍

I can’t tell you how many theological discussions where “I’m a celibate lesbian” has caused shock waves in the group. No one expects it, and I’m not even super-feminine (chapstick, minor makeup). At least those are the polite discussions. People say all kinds of stupid things about gays and lesbians around me not knowing.

To Dawnia: it is true that some gay people are very obvious (let’s say, butch and soft butch). It is also true that still others are tellable if you know what to look for (some chapsticks). But in the third group (some chapsticks + femmes + lipsticks that don’t wear rainbow paraphernalia or the like), you pretty much have to be in the community enough to learn how to spot them, and even then it’s not foolproof. But the community does teach you a lot of gaydar based on constant exposure and certain ‘tells’ you learn from your lesbian friends.

I’d imagine the gay male community is the same way as well, though I can’t say for sure.

(And PS there’s a lot more gender expression in the community than I listed; I just did a quick rundown from a scale that those not in the community would understand).

It makes you look holier-than-thou and pushes them away from the religion. So I see tons wrong with it. It’s just super impolite (and countereffective) to randomly go up to someone on a date (or just hanging out with their bf/gf) and start ranting to them about how they’re sinning.

I’ve never been involved with the gay community, but I’ve always been able to tell. 🤷 People broadcast a lot about themselves that they don’t even realize. You just have to pay attention.

I agree. Unsolicited preaching is usually counter productive.

Thieves and adulterers hurt other people; gays don’t hurt anyone but themselves. So much more comparably, I do see those who enjoy marijuana advocating for its legality. I do see those with terminal illnesses advocating for physician-assisted suicide.
I put in bold the straight out lie.
Let’s face it; America has the Wiccan attitude of “live your life however you want, as long as you don’t hurt anyone else.” This is not isolated to just gays, yet gays are the only group of people that Christians love to bash on national media. I don’t see people going on national television calling the terminally ill “pedophiles.” I don’t see people going on national television talking about how marijuana users are attempting to “recruit” children.
Why should people call those who are terminally ill “pedophiles”? And i think you will often see people say drug pushers target youth, Especially those that sell marijuana, as that is seen as a gateway drug. Andi think you’ll find plenty of news stories on here about schools promoting the homosexual lifestyle.
It’s ridiculous how persecuted the LGBT community is by conservative Christians. Anything remotely suggesting anything but complete intolerance of gays & lesbians is considered cowing to the “homosexual agenda” or “militant homosexuals,” etc. And worst, when someone has the courage to actually call one of these people homophobic, the person turns around and says “they called me homophobic cuz of my stance on marriage!” and completely ignores the actual reason they’re homophobic.
“Persecuted”? Go read up on what is happening to Christians, shias, kurds and even gays in places like syria at the hands of the Obama backed sunnis Then you would find the true meaning of the word persecuted.
The trouble is the homosexual community is too eager to use over dramatic terminology.
It’s like some Christians will just state

i believe homosexuality is a sin. “O you’re in tolerant homophobe. Stop persecuting me.”

I believe marriage is between a man and a woman “O you’re in tolerant homophobe. Stop persecuting me.”

And God help you if you own a shop. Then they take you to court to force you o do something that goes against your beliefs…
Believing those things does not make one a homophobe. you people use that word so much it has lost all meaning.
I don’t support SSM, but you know what? I’m polite to gays & lesbians, I love them as people, I treat them as my friends, I stick up for them. And I have been warmly accepted in the LGBT community as a result. Opposing SSM does not make you homophobic in the community. If you were called homophobic, you should re-evaluate your attitude, not cry persecution.
I don’t cry persecution If i am called homophobic it has zero effect on me Because by the gay community standard, not supporting them 100% makes you a homophobe. And well to be honest i don’t care what they think. For there is only one judge of me.
I am very proud of this BK franchise for doing what is right, standing up for the human dignity of gays and lesbians, and helping LGBT kids go to college. If I were in SF, I’d go get lunch there today.
Well i don’t support those who support those who commit sinful behavior.

But you can’t “preach” lies.

Back to the board here, after two days away.

Don’t get me started on this

Conservative Christians (some) will say the most hateful and/or inaccurate things about gays (they chose it, they’re predators, they “recruit” young people, I think one person on this board even said they were “mentally retarded”).

But if gays don’t agree with them. they’ll point the finger at them and yell, “BIGOT!”

Glad to know I’m not the only one who’s sick of this.

I Have never been to a pride parade or rally either, I have no interest of course. I have been to "the city’ twice. But if you don’t go to the Castro district you just don’t see noticeable homosexuals at, at I least I haven’t.

San Francisco is very much a city made up of neighborhoods, just like Chicago. If you stay in the right parts of town and avoid the bad (Castro) you will be just fine. SF has many Catholic churches, two cathedrals, and Catholic schools.

So many people focus on only the homosexuals and end up missing a beautiful city by doing so.
I in fact plan to visit the city someday.

My father served there in the service and always wanted to go back to see how it had changed. And one of my aunts moved there.

I would of course be going to see the sights, not to support somebody else’s parade or rally.

Yes, exactly. I think it’s incredibly homophobic to suggest gays “recruit” children, to suggest gays are pedophiles, or to insult gays and lesbians. It’s so obnoxious to have someone call gay people pedophiles and then cry about you calling them a homophobe, suggesting that you did it only because of their stance on same-sex marriage. The Family Research Council is an expert at this, as they got listed as a hate group specifically for suggesting gays were preying on children, yet they lambast the listing in press releases as an attack on their view on marriage.

If people acted tolerant of gay people for the last 50 years, none of the current movement would even exist. The only reason it exists is because some conservatives thought it extremely important to spread as much hatred and bigotry and prejudice against gays as possible in the 60s-90s, continuing into modern day, and gays fought back. The modern LGBT movement sparked from an unprovoked police beating. Russia is currently in their Stonewall era, with misinformation (especially the false link of pedophilia) spread daily about gays and lesbians, “corrective” rapes seen as healthy for lesbians, beatings commonplace of gays and lesbians, police brutality commonplace, etc.

Remember: gays & lesbians used to be portrayed by the MSM, with the huge backing of conservatives, as filthy predators of children. It was through this lens that conservatives tried to ban gays & lesbians from becoming teachers. It was through this lens that people didn’t care about beatings or murders of gays & lesbians, least so if it was done at the hands of a police officer. It was through this lens that “PSAs” like this one got put out:

youtube.com/watch?v=r_NAl4AkmjU

At least modern-day false and prejudicial attacks on gays & lesbians have been relegated to an extremist position, only taken by the most hateful of groups, such as the FRC. But they still disgust me when they pop up their heads on message boards.

When you’re dragged to your death on the back of a pickup truck for being Christian in the United States, we can talk. Until then, you have nothing on the persecution of gays in this country. The US is one of the most intolerant societies for gays and lesbians in the West. It’s no wonder the LGBT suicide rate is so high.

Uhhh they may demand you not be a complete a*****e to them about it, but they won’t demand you “accept” them. No one really cares what other people think, but I know a lot of gay people who get tired of people preaching to them.
You do have your head in the sand! God Bless, memaw

I was very prominent in various LGBT communities for like…5-6 years! I have never seen a single person call someone homophobic for opposing SSM. Never once. Yes, I have seen people be rude to people for opposing SSM, but never have I seen someone ever call someone homophobic for their stance on marriage. Homophobic is reserved for those who get weirded out being near a gay person, who tell gay people they’re “going to hell,” who refer to gay people as “pedophiles” and “child molesters.”

Again, if someone is called homophobic by someone else, they need to re-evaluate their entire behavior, not assume it’s because of their stance on marriage. If you just ruined someone’s lunch date with their girlfriend by explaining to them unsolicited that they’re going to hell, they didn’t call you homophobic for your stance on marriage.

Wait a second…
A few posts ago you were speaking of actively sinning, now you are taming the language down considerably.

So people are just ‘hanging out’ now.

Goal post move duly noted.

This kind of spotlights the point.
Homosexuals regularly yell out the charge of homophobic when the circumstances do not indicate such.

All that these people have done is make an accusation. The definition of Homophobic does not apply.

I said they were actively gay, meaning they had a sexual partner. Being actively gay doesn’t mean having sex with your partner everywhere you go. How is that a goal post move? Do you honestly think people only bother gay people when they see them having sex?
