What people take issue with is not such a kid as you mention, but the larger gay agenda.
So, we shouldn’t give a scholarship to a kid that got kicked out of the house because you or I don’t support someone else’s “gay agenda”?

.As a lesbian, I have to put up with conservatives in the Church talk about all these things the gay community is supposedly doing, and I just have to shake my head and laugh as I was in the community for over a half decade and have never heard any intent by anyone to do any of it. Someone in this thread talked about “promoting homosexuality to children,” for example. The gay community absolutely does not do this. They only provide a safe space for LGBT kids to come out and accept themselves. Yes, they go too far in what it MEANS to accept oneself, but no one is “promoting” it. No gay person would wish homosexuality on a kid. It brings with it a lifetime of abuse and torment from society.

If anyone has been cruel to you or made you believe gay people will continue to be subject to a lifetime of abuse and torment, I am sorry. I would never be cruel to anyone simply because they are gay and I would not tolerate that sort of treatment of gays if I saw it. Gay people’s persona lives are none of my business and I am in no position to judge it (having failed morally plenty on my own). A liberal political agenda which uses gay people to further its own ends is what I do find worthy of judgement.

Well thank you. I do agree that activists are very different than the gay community. The community does support gay marriage obviously, but they do so because marriage has been taught to them as a commitment ceremony with the one you love and nothing more. So work that mindset, it is easy to see why they view marriage laws as discriminatory.
But yes, the community does suffer a lot of hatred. Both my friend and I got drive-byed in one of the most liberal states in the country (me with a high amount of mud and d**e slurs, my friend with a thrown projectile and f****t). Yes, these incidents do get targeted unfairly at the Catholic Church, though I would always blame the Protestant churches for it and nothing can convince me otherwise. The amount of hatred I see spewed from Baptist, Pentecostal, etc. etc. podiums turns my stomach. The Mormon church used to demand parents throw gay kids out of the house, though I don’t know if they still do. These Protestant (or nominally Christian, in the case of Mormonism,) churches have built up such an ill will among gays and lesbians that it’s very hard to breach the divide with any Christian religion. This ill will is intensified due to the sizable percentage of Catholics who cheer on hate groups like the Family Research Council, recommend parents look into evil organizations such as NARTH, and/or participate directly in hatred against the teachings of their own Church.
My dream is for the Church and the gay community to one day find a middle place to love each other. This would reduce the power of those who manipulate our community while reducing forcible conversion therapy on minors, homelessness among LGBT teens, and overall hate incidents against the community.

You have no need whatever to thank me, as no decent person has any business being cruel or promoting hate or poking their noses into people’s private lives within a free society.
I would agree there has been too much hate, ( back in the 1980s I used to be sickened by Jimmy Swaggart’s ranting about gays, for instance) and the drive-by incidents you describe are inexcusable. Such incidents need to be reported to law enforcement.
I don’t think there ought to be a gay community: Simply a free society in which gay persons and all others are free to live as they like, without hurting others. No one should have to slink through life as a shadowy member of a sub-community.
It is the liberal (many of them are NOT even gay) advocates, as I said, who have some big plan in mind who are ruining this simple plan for all. These are the ones I take issue with.

I think the gay community is necessary. People tend to congregate by gender and orientation anyway, and I can’t imagine a world where I felt completely safe, as nice as that would be. As for law enforcement…they don’t care about our incidents usually. There’s a lot of distrust in the community for them, and hate incidents are rarely reported. It’s taken as a given that every gay or lesbian person will go through something hateful at some point in their life , and we just try to live our lives as best we can otherwise.
Anyways, you are a wonderful human being, and I agree with your last paragraph.

I would hope that this changes (I think in some places it is changing, and has already become much better) but I understand that progress is spotty and does not march in lock-step. (Why thank you; you sound very brave and pretty wonderful yourself.

Of course in the U.S. there are corporate sponsorships of other minority campaigns. But it is not done in so commercial and open a way. Do you have huge Pride parades for the disabled? ***Special flags for them flown over government buildings? ***
Actually a rainbow flag was flown under our American flag at the US embassy in Israel.

Yes, there is indeed a disparity between the different advocacy groups (Rainbow Pride versus special needs people). Just look at the manner in which the disabled are treated by corporations (placed in workshops which pay far beneath the minimum wage).
As has been pointed out before, this may be acted upon by a single store, but they had to seek approval (and apparently received it).

Your employment is responsible for putting food on your table. It’s really just one evil or another but at least hopping on the bandwagon for the time being won’t put you a risk of being homeless. I’ve ceased seeing point in morals when they force you to commit injustice to yourself.
How do you know? This might just be exclusive to the American sphere. Ever heard of globalization and localization? Corporations will jump on anything that will help them connect to the biggest, paying majority of their customers.
It’s funny how I never see Catholics taking advantage of that yet they wonder why their boycotts aren’t always as effective.
