All he did was make a special wrapper that said gays and straights have equal human dignity. Then he donated all the proceeds to help LGBT kids go to college.

But I went to Burger King today specifically to counteract the people taking out their anger on poor, innocent franchise owners who did not perform these intrinsically good, moral, and Catholic acts that the SF franchise owner did. Hadn’t had it in years; it was really good :).
I’d go to the BK in question, too, to support this, no question, if I lived near there.
B) LGBT kids make up 40% of the homeless youth despite only about 5% of youth identifying as LGBT. They are significantly less likely to be able to attend college due to the higher lack of parental aid, and so they are at a uniquely detrimental position. The fund helps to pick these kids back up off the streets.
This is something like how I look at it.

I try to think about the people who didn’t have it as well as I did growing up, and didn’t have the advantages I had.

I didn’t come from a wealthy or even upscale family, either, but I was allowed to stay in the family home for as long as I wanted. This was Mom’s way of helping me out, as she couldn’t help me out with money, and there were times that if I weren’t given a place to live I would have been on the street myself.

And I know not everybody was allowed to do this. Some of my friends had a family rule that they had to be out at age 18. And I can only imagine what an LGBT kid would have gone through. My mother hated gays (called them “pigs,” etc.) and would have kicked an LGBT kid out in under a minute.

So I tend to look at it from the perspective of young people having a disadvantage in life through no fault of their own, which I didn’t have, and wanting to give them a helping hand, rather than seeing them as sick or evil.

The rainbow wrapper supports the homosexual lifestyle. Which is a sin. He is supporting a sin. You buy that product you in turn are supporting that sin.
Well, it’s your souls 🤷.

If you want to risk eternal separation from God over the grave matter of rash judgment, at least don’t say I didn’t warn you. As for myself, I am not going to spit on a man who ran a charity event, consistent with Catholic values, to help homeless kids get into college.
2477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury.278 He becomes guilty:
  • of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;
  • of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them;279
  • of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.

. As for myself, I am not going to spit on a man who ran a charity event, consistent with Catholic values, to help homeless kids get into college.
Taking up a cause consistent with Catholic values can be done without taking on the colors and agenda of the ‘gay lifestyle’

It is in taking up the agenda that the issue lies.

Consider for a moment…
Let’s take this EXACT scenario, but instead of the rainbow colors found on the gay rights agenda, they used the swastika.

Would you be so ready to sing praises to an individual who ‘ran a charity event, consistent with Catholic values, to help homeless kids get into college.’

Well that wouldn’t make much sense, since the swastika isn’t associated with LGBT anything. But yeah, if it was a charity event to help persecuted Hindus in a foreign country that used a swastika (the Hindu symbol for God) and said “we are all the same inside,” then I would assume it was used with good intentions, yes. Just like this rainbow wrapper, which is the symbol for equal dignity for gay people.

And you had to change the circumstance to make the symbol in the flag mean something else…didn’t you.
The symbol meant something. And you required it to mean something else.

Yet you would have us believe the symbol being adopted in this market scheme means nothing, and the only thing we should look upon is where the money is believed to be going.

We know better.
The symbols mean something. The colors mean something.
And this support is immoral.

If you want to believe that, go for it. You’re factually wrong though. And always remember that rash judgment is grave matter.

I wouldn’t call that rash judgement, I’d call it sound judgement. Defending the wrong thing is bad judgement. God Bless, Memaw

Memaw, if he in any way was using these funds in a nefarious purpose, I would not be defending him. But as it is, I am taking his actions as is and you/vz/latin are impugning motives that he may or may not have. You have no proof that he is anything other than supportive of gay people as people and caring for kids who get tossed on the street by their parents. It is totally a rash judgment to see “RAINBOW???!!!?!?!” and immediately think “he is somehow nefariously supporting gay marriage through this clandestine operation!” There is no evidence that this action is doing anything but supporting the dignity of human beings, regardless of sexual orientation. And if you were in the gay community, you would know that the rainbow symbolizes equal dignity of all people.

Seriously reconsider your anger.

Good lord.

ITS A DAMN SANDWICH WRAPPER!

“Let’s boycott hamburgers!” it’s no wonder people are leaving the church!

Who is boycotting hamburgers? I am putting Gods law before them, that is all. And if those who can’t have a hissy fit and leave. Well maybe them and the Church would be better off if they did

You’re putting gods law before hamburgers?

Seriously though…this was a campaign that ONE franchise carried out for an extremely limited time to benefit LGBT kids who need help getting into college. How is this a bad thing? God would be against it? God would be against a hamburger wrapped in rainbow colored paper? I mean, do you listen to yourself?

This was marketed in an area where the gay population is very prevalent. It’s not some national campaign to “spread and promote the gay agenda”. Any “agenda” going on wasn’t going to be slowed down in this area if there wasn’t this campaign.

All I’ve seen in this thread is a bunch of overreacting, gross exaggerations, and much to do about nothing. It seems like many people on this thread are just looking for ammunition against the gay community…and apparently they’ve found it…in, low and behold, a cheeseburger.

Again, what would god rather you be doing? Contributing to society by way of helping those in need, or launching an all-out war against a fast food franchise for catering to their local demographic (whose also helping to further the education of less fortunate kids).

Yes, damn you, Burger King! Damn you and your rainbow wrappers!

If this is all the church has to be worried about we are so very lucky! How many pages has this post lasted for? Compare it to some of the others dealing with real world issues!

I am not angry, does a person have to be angry in order to voice their opinion??? He is supporting the gay agenda by publicly using his business to advertise his acceptance of a sinful lifestyle. . Call it what you like but you have no proof that he isn’t!! I never mentioned gay (so called) marriage, (there really is no such thing) but it does all go together in the gay package. They are trying to force their lifestyle on our society and will do it in any way they can.
As for the rainbow, I find it very strange that they are using something as meaningful to Christians as the Rainbow as their so called symbol. After God punished the human race for their many sins, and then gave us the rainbow and they have the nerve to use it in the way they do. I am shocked at the many Catholics that support this. God Bless, Memaw

I understand your point and largely agree about the overreacting.

But I wouldn’t be dismissive simply because it has to do with hamburger wrappers. If they were putting racist messages on the inside of the wrappers, people would be (rightly) outraged.

Not that this is the same as that. The message was pretty benign and not in contradiction with Catholic teaching. A lot of us are sensitive, though, to anything that comes forth from the ethereal “gay agenda” zeitgeist seeing any positive portrayal of gay issues in terms of a larger framework that attempts to normalize the lifestyle as a whole. This can easily get overblown (as in the present example), but it’s understandable that some of us Christians feel that way. Public opinion has turned on this issue largely as the result of many such innocuous things adding up over time. So there is a bit of a knee jerk opposition to such things.

Are we sooo naive??? And what does quoting Fr. have anything to do with this??? God Bless, Memaw

I would go as far to say that a wrapper that simply says “we are all the same on the inside” is in no way, shape, or form similar to something racist.

Are we not all the same on the inside? All this franchise did was promote equality. It’s not promoting hate, which something racist WOULD be promoting. This is why many Christians are not taken seriously anymore when it comes to the gay rights issue. Perhaps if they stook to simply saying “we support what we believe the bible says”, the rest of us Christians wouldn’t get a bad wrap. But no, many (on this board included) take it a step further and go on to bring up racist rights, pedophila (ironic considering the churches history), polygamy, beastiality…you name it.

I’m not stating my opinion either way. But I will say that these comparisons are not slowing down the process of which gay-rights is taking. on the contrary, it’s actually speeding it up.

The “gay agenda” isn’t to “blame” for the rapid successes that gay activists are enjoying; it is these types of uncharitable remarks and laughably ridiculous comparisons that are making those who may have once been against gay rights to start becoming more sympathetic on to the other side. Anyone who is on the fence about gay-rights who happens to come across this forum would likely be swayed into supporting gay rights after reading some of the remarks here!

So…continue on with your silly, overthought comparisons. You’re only shooting yourself in the foot at this point.

Well said and I completely agree.
