=SMGS127;12181101]“In support of gay people.” Being a gay person isn’t a sin 🤷. “Being gay” means “being attracted to members of the same sex.”
Am I to understand this comment really implies it’s all about pride and has nothing to do with the gay “marriage” movement?

I take it then there would be no issue with the installation of a Red Pride burger to honor Native Americans or an Irish Pride burger? :ehh:
As for why we should celebrate the dignity?
On the one hand, Burger King is a private company. But to answer this question: Dignity should stand on its own merits. :yup:

Do GLBTQ persons really feel better about themselves over a hamburger?

That’s actually sad on many levels and really does further what I write on here about gay relationships.
Because the individual dignities of homosexuals are denied over and over again in our country by hateful acts.
What about African-Americans? Know how many of them have been shot in the South side of Chicago this month?
Hate crimes are rampant, people fight for the right to deny serving gay people at restaurants in the South,
To quote Jason Lewis “if we have hate crimes, do we also have love crimes”?

I’ve heard nothing of this, and as such on the surface, this argument in general (not in reference to the author) sounds like another lame attempt to link gay “marriage” to the civil rights movement.
anti-LGBT bullying is one of the highest rates of bullying in the country, parents throw LGBT kids out of the house, etc. etc. While I may be glad that we don’t live in Iran, the United States is one of the most intolerant countries in the Western world towards the human dignity of gays and lesbians. I welcome any attempt to fight that.
I’m not denying there isn’t hate towards GLBTQ, but being gay is so  and in today, it’s absurd and the prior comment sounds like the victim-hood mentality is being poured on thick.

I just wonder how many of those cases of kids getting thrown out for reasons besides who they are attracted to. Do individuals who claim kids get the boot just for being GLBTQ take the child’s word for it or what?

I’m also skeptical about the concern the gay “marriage” movement has for these kids. I’ll bet a lot of it is along the same nonsense of Western liberal “compassion”.

No, it is not a sin to affirm someone’s dignity.

But that is not what is being done here.

The newspaper there reported it as a pro-gay initiative.

And as reported in USA Today, So, this dignity that is being affirmed…
Would that be dignity as a homosexual, or dignity as a human being?
And why one over the other?
And why should we celebrate this dignity over the other?

It seems to me we have to turn a blind eye to too much to think that this is perfectly acceptable.
I take it this comment means a pro-gay “marriage” initiative? 🤷

When did refusal of service become a hate crime?
Where is this refusal of service happening, I have not heard of it.
Every refusal I have read about involved some kind of action taken on the part of the person being refused service.

I really think you are pushing for the over-dramatic here.

No, there’d be no issue with either of those things, but I think an Irish Pride burger would have made much more sense in America’s youth, when the Irish went through much the same era as gays/lesbians are going through now about having trouble finding employment, being served, being targeted for hate crimes, etc.

No, that’s not what this is about. It is nice, however, to hear some businesses actually stand up for your dignity as a human being when so many are fighting to keep you from being able to even step foot in their restaurant.
What about African-Americans? Know how many of them have been shot in the South side of Chicago this month?
African-Americans have pride events…they’re called MLK day, Black History Month, etc.

We live in a very intolerant society. This is an interesting article written about a man who pretended to be gay to find out whether the intolerance was real. His observations are very true.

abcnews.go.com/Health/cross-closet-straight-christian-lives-year-gay-man/story?id=17443219
The hardest part was facing his parents, who were divorced.
“There was always an elephant in the room,” he said. “I snooped in my mother’s journal one day after I had come out and she’d written, ‘I’d rather have found out from a doctor that I had terminal cancer than have a gay son.’”
With his friends, “the thing that struck me most was the isolation,” he said. “Before I came out as gay, I had a very busy social life. After I came out, I didn’t hear from 95 percent of my friends.”
I just wonder how many of those cases of kids getting thrown out for reasons besides who they are attracted to. Do individuals who claim kids get the boot just for being GLBTQ take the child’s word for it or what?
Sometimes. Other times they try to reconcile the child with the parents (due to overburdened resources, etc.), and the parents want nothing to do with the kids. Either way, the fact that 40% of our homeless youth are LGBT indicates that it is not merely a coincidence or correlation.
When did refusal of service become a hate crime?
It was a serial comma. “Hate crimes and refusal to serve gay people at a restaurant and etc.”
Where is this refusal of service happening, I have not heard of it.
huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/07/garys-chicaros-oklahoma-restaurant-serve-gays_n_4746095.html
One Oklahoma restaurant owner says he doesn’t want to serve gay people.
“I really don’t want gays around,” Gary’s Chicaros Club owner Gary James told NBC affiliate KFOR-TV after a reporter asked him about several comments accusing the restaurant of discrimination. “Any man that would compromise his body would compromise anything.”
“I’ve been in business 44 years. I think I can spot a freak or a f****t,” James told the news station.

Interesting try.:rotfl:
The man refuses service to people wearing hats indoors as well.
And it appears he discerns homosexuals based on the direction they wear their hat.

Seems to me that unless you are telling people you are homosexual (in absence of this tell-tale hat) no one will know one way or the other. And service will be rendered.

I do not see a credible threat to anyone’s dignity here.

Except perhaps the store owner that believes he can determine sexuality based upon the way a hat is worn.

Because it’s not sinful to affirm someone’s dignity as a human being, but it is sinful to accuse someone who does so of nefarious intentions.
I wasn’t talking about their ‘dignity’ as a human being. It’s their lifestyle that is sinful. You do love to put words in others mouth. God Bless, Memaw

Memaw, are we not discussing the gay pride Whopper? The one that makes no mention of any such “lifestyle” and only discusses the dignities of the individuals involved (and raises money for them to go to college)?

Just what do you think the “gay pride Whopper” represents, if not their lifestyle!!??? Why don’t they extend that college money for all young people, Why just gays??? God Bless, Memaw

A) The fact that people of all sexual orientations have equal dignity inside, hence why the tagline for the promotion was “We are all the same inside!”

B) LGBT kids make up 40% of the homeless youth despite only about 5% of youth identifying as LGBT. They are significantly less likely to be able to attend college due to the higher lack of parental aid, and so they are at a uniquely detrimental position. The fund helps to pick these kids back up off the streets.

Both of these things are intrinsically good actions. Criticizing the franchise owner for committing intrinsically good actions requires an assumption of his motives that Catholics are not allowed to make.

But you are, right?? God Bless, Memaw

I could not eat there either, the jerk refuses to serve disabled. Even if I wanted to eat there I would be turned away when he saw my walker!

What a putz!!

No I am not assuming anything about his motives. I am looking at the actions on their own, and they are intrinsically good actions.
Attempting to rewrite the definition of marriage to accommodate deviant sexual behavior?

He did no such thing; now you are simply lying about the man.

All he did was make a special wrapper that said gays and straights have equal human dignity. Then he donated all the proceeds to help LGBT kids go to college.

But I went to Burger King today specifically to counteract the people taking out their anger on poor, innocent franchise owners who did not perform these intrinsically good, moral, and Catholic acts that the SF franchise owner did. Hadn’t had it in years; it was really good :).

No one has attempted to claim any such martyring.
That is your straw man, not an argument by anyone on this thread.
Yet you claim one’s morality should take precedence over one’s job position. I’m not an idiot. I know a moralist two-step when I see one.
I have asked nothing of your personal life.
Nope. But you did ask me to jump into your trap question. Sounds like you’re no different when it comes to admitting you know little to nothing about the subject.
Again, I have asked nothing of your personal life.
Nor does it matter.
As has been my argument all along, morality does not depend upon the position.
Yes it does. And please, spare me the morality clause. You have never (and I doubt will ever) addressed the irony of a morality that compromises one’s own source of income for its own sake. Injustice to avoid another injustice. Yeah. That’s Christianity.
There is no irony there.
In the words of Snape: “Then prove it!”

Absolut vodka is also promoting PRIDE in their ad campaigns, complete with a rainbow. Saw the banner in a pub during the US World Cup game. All I could think about is how quick corporations are to make money off of these trends. Also made me think how much social pressure is being applied here, particularly on younger straight and gay adults, to be “cool” i.e. accepting. It would be really hard to stand up against that atmosphere. Incredible pressure to conform - a real herd mentality 😉 (not to be uncharitable). Thinking exactly like everyone else is the new “cool” mandate. It’s sad to see that kind of social and emotional manipulation of people. But it’s clear why many people are afraid to speak their minds on issues like marriage. They think there is something wrong with them if they question it. That’s what our culture is telling and selling them.
👍 Well said.

Yes, grade school logic. I am jealous because I criticize the religion. Uh-huh.
No. i am talking about the way in which you did it. And the terms you used, I told you that. About 5 times now.
Obviously.
Well i am glad it is to you. Because you still have me scratching my head.
Indeed. But since you consider the act such a wonderful virtue, why did you fight? Your job is second place to your faith. Fighting for something you value less seems illogical and pointless.

So again, why don’t you quit?
Because i won. Sorry for not running out of the office waving my hands in the air complaining about the job, the moment the problem arose. My job does come second to my faith. But i won. So i didn’t have to give it up. What you’re advocating is not so much sacrifice but quitting. I don’t consider quitting a virtue. (Unless it is something like quitting smoking, drugs etc.)
Who’s playing cards now? What does the homosexuality of either party have to do with the challenges to Jimenez’s ‘facts’? He claims to have painstakingly researched yet the link I showed you questions the very origins of his assumptions.

If you’re going to defend someone at least don’t commit the crime you and others here enjoy accusing me of.
I’ll gladly put someone who put his livelihood at stake over a blog that pushes an agenda.
Because your faith seems soooo important to you. 👍 Plus the fact that you’re boycotting something yet claim to be not offended? Yeah, who’s being called immature here again? 😉
I see no difference. Offended is offended.
I think i told you 3 times why i didn’t quit my job, in this post alone. Just read above.
Stealing is a sin, yet i am not offended when someone steals. I am not all “O My goodness, they stole something my feelings are so hurt.” But i am “Hey man. that’s not cool. In fact it’s a sin. An no i will not buy that product, because that means i am supporting your sin.” know what i mean? You don’t have to be offended by something to know that it is wrong.
I’m not assuming anything. You’re the one contradicting yourself saying your job matters little compared to your faith yet still chose to fight for said job. You’re the one who naively suggests that jeopardizing one’s job is just child’s play if your so-called ‘faith’ seemed far more valuable.
You did. you assumed i took great joy in it. When i told you nothing of the sort. Fighting for one thing does not necessary diminish the meaning or value of another. And where did i suggest to you it was child’s play? I asked you last post to stop assuming and making things up. From now on. I think i’ll just call you out as a liar on these matters.

No. I think it is paranoia to assume so. No one is going to go out and have sex with a member of their own sex just because this guy makes a rainbow wrapper and affirms their human dignity. No gay marriage law is going to be passed because this guy pays for gay kids to go to college. That is insane to think.
The rainbow wrapper supports the homosexual lifestyle. Which is a sin. He is supporting a sin. You buy that product you in turn are supporting that sin.
