You think whatever cynical thoughts you want, but Polish émigrés didn’t see it that way, nor do modern Poles. The Poles have always considered France and its government its greatest friend and ally - and rightly so. France is even mentioned in the Polish national anthem and its greatest patriotic song, Warszawianka was written by a Frenchman.
Was helping the Poles in France’s self interest? Yes, just as any country that allies itself with another does it in its own self-interest.

I don’t support Islam’s insistence on women being fully covered in any way, but this French law is stupid through and through…
- Like it or not there are Muslim Women who are not ill treated by their husbands or forced to do anything that choose to wear the burqa. This is an out and out attack on their freedom.
- Now the women who are persecuted and forced to cover themselves up by their husbands and fathers will likely be forced to never leave the house ever… Good going France… You sure thought this through!
- The French excuse about protecting their culture is the most funny absurd excuse I’ve ever heard. The fact is that France and much of Europe has abandoned their Christian heritage and culture and God is punishing them by handing them over to foreign occupiers, no different than in Biblical times. Europe has largely thrown away the one thing that would preserve them and fight against Islam which is the Church and Christianity with its values for family and children. Without it, they leave a void that needs will be filled by something else, and what a surprise! That’s Islam!
- The excuse of protecting others from completely covered faces is stupid. I live in Canada and sometimes it gets sooo cold here with freezing wind that I wear a baraclava that covers up my entire face and head only letting my eyes be seen and people walk around fully covered in the dead of winter too. Am I now some kind of terrorist threath??? This law is simply absurd!
- This WILL set a bad precedent. They’ll inevitably come for the Catholics too, in fact don’t they already ban crucifixes? Protect the culture eh? What happens when the culture decides it doesn’t need Christians disturbing the peace by what they wear, what they say and do in public places either eh?
- This will just antagonize Muslims further, and now France has shot up the list as a target of terrorism…

Did you actually look at the picture in the OP?
I would think at the very least, there is a safety issue involved.

You are no safer because you can see the killers face before he kills you than if you couldn’t. Seeing someone’s face does not prevent them from blowing you up if that is their intention and the records show for the most part such people try and do the best they can to look just like everyone else because it is easier to kill people if you blend in with them and can walk unnoticed in a crowd without drawing attention to yourself.

Do you think bank robbers will stop covering their faces because the burqa is banned? Do you think the number of bank robberies will be reduced because of this ban?
I think a man or woman has a right to cover their face if they wish, its their face and what they do with it is up to them that’s what I think. I have serious problems with petty tyranny that would intrude on my personnel life to the extent that I would be banned form wearing certain items of clothing.

There could be a cost savings for drivers licenses and ID cards. Just use the same photo for all Muslim women.
But I’m wondering if passports are issued with the photo showing only the eyes.
Perhaps some of the women would welcome a law which required them to take off the burqa.

Public lewdness effects everybody who witnesses it, and i would guess would increase in the number of sexual crimes committed, me wearing something over my face effects nobody.

I am ok with this for two reasons:
First, women who live under sharia law have absolutely NO say as to whether they want to wear face covering or not. In Saudi Arabia there would be no way for them to assert their desire, but in the western world they have the protection of the state. That is meaningless, however, if they are still quietly subjegated by their husbands. I would welcome any law that gives these women more freedom.
Second, while we have pockets of Islamic communities in the US, France and other European nations are dealing with the real prospect of islamic law making it’s way into their legal system and overtaking their cultural values and traditions. There are places in Paris where Parisian women cannot walk down the street in shorts. France is trying to find balance between religious freedom for those who practice Islam and preventing their own French citizens from being subject to Sharia Law. If you don’t think that’s conceivable then you haven’t looked at the statistics.

Many were born in France and you avoid the question as to if the law is unjust.
Wearing what you want is not making anyone submit to anything. The Turks made priests (like John XXIII before he became pope) wear lay clothing, too. That was unjust.
