From the Closing Liturgy of the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress 2010
youtube.com/user/RECongress#p/a/u/1/dO1iLNdQHaY
I’m hoping the ECs who attended will respond. (There have been responses elsewhere from ECs who were involved.)

My Latin Church Director of Religious Ed was at the LA Congress, always goes and loves it. She was very excited to have gone to the Divine Liturgy there, her first experience with the DL. According to those who were there 1200 attendees went to the Divine Liturgy in one of the hotel ballrooms.

I’m so grateful to the EC clergy who were there. My DRE said the priest gave a wonderful explanation of the DL before it began. She then spoke with him at length at their information and vendor booth. She was very excited to tell me about the DL experience as well as the chance to talk at length with the EC priest. It clearly had a big impact on her. What until now has been a vague intellectual awareness of the ECs and our worship was completely altered by her experience of the DL and the talk with the EC priest at the LA Congress. 👍 I’m sure she has a better understanding of me, her catechist, now as well. If they won’t come to us sometimes we have to go to them. 😉 (Just please don’t ask me to go to the LA REC. :))

Something very similar was posted elsewhere. I’m hoping the ECCs who attended will respond.

I am very disappointed to see these Bishops participated in such a Mass. Maybe we should write a letter to them stating our concerns. Such a Liturgy is 100% contrary to the Eastern approach to worship.

It’s even contrary to the traditional Latin approach to worship.

Were there liturgical dancers doing their things during the Mass? If so, that is in complete defiance of the Vatican regarding NO liturgical dancing.

Aaaccckkk!

I checked out the beginning. I am sorry, but that incense routine has absolutely noooo place in the Mass! I did not even finish that clip.

The song from the end was pleasant to the ear, but I could not hear most of the words. It also has no place in any liturgical setting either way.

When I was growing up in the Latin Church, it happened that the Mass we went to was the one that the folk group did. (My Dad was so happy when they “retired”.) There always seemed to me that there was a disconnect between the ‘silence’ of the spoken parts and the musical parts. I always thought of the hymn, etc. as commercial breaks, because that’s what they felt like. There is a dissonance, a disconnect between them and the liturgy. This is partly because of the format of the Latin liturgy is commonly done and partly because of the music which is picked.

To keep this post somewhat one topic. I wonder what the bishops actually thought of the Mass. Maybe they won’t be going back ;)😛

Maybe they didn’t know it was actually going to be a Ringling Brothers production but, in all likelihood, they had at least some idea of what was going to happen. If so, they should have politely declined the invitation.

I wouldn’t exactly call them “dancers” since there was more gyration going on than any kind of dancing I’m familiar with.

I want to clear the air by saying that this is NOT a “charismatic” Mass. Most of the charismatics that I know would cringe at seeing such a travisty. 😦

What in the world is that?!?!?!?
LOL I’m sorry, but watching those dancers with the incense was too funny. Then there was the deacon dancing with the Gospels. Then the presiders (including the bishop) clapping while they walked to their seats.

I have mixed feelings though. 🤷

liturgical prancing? :hmmm:

Maybe that’s the loophole regarding the liturgical dancing prohibition.

“The Pope says no liturgical dancing.”
  • “Oh, we’re not dancing, we’re prancing.”

Yeah, I have mixed feelings too: I don’t whether to laugh or barf 😃

Could be … shame they weren’t in belly dance outfits. It would have been a lot more entertaining. 😛
