Stu, please read and respond to my post #20. Find your friend if you can. Thanks!
I’'ll certainly pass this on to her but given her relatively junior rank and the fact that she is somewhat reserved I don’t see her responding.

I don’t think Senator Durbin is necessarily anti-military, I just think he is dangerously ignorant of the military and willing to slander the services in the name of political gain. As a Senator, if he is truly concerned, he could have privately asked the military to take him down there for an inspection. Doesn’t make quite the same splash however.

GITMO TRIVIA K. J. Lopez]
From John Cornyn’s office: some of the harshest critics of Gitmo haven’t been there. These are the senators who have:
Cantwell
Chambliss
Cornyn
Dewine
Graham
McCain
Ben Nelson
Sessions
Levin
Hatch
Corzine

Having not gone down does not mean you can’t criticize, it’s just an interesting fact. UPDATE: Four more went down while it was being put together:
Inouye
Hutchison
Stevens
Feinstein

jay,

I can see a repub gaining the governor’s office, expecially with the horror from our current dem governor. However, I think it will be brutal warfare to get a repub into a senate seat. The dems know that Illinois is one of their last true strongholds.

Ditto. That’s why I said “unlikely, but possible”

Our state is a mess sometimes.

As Dick Durbin so aptly demonstrates, modern day liberalism, as practiced by the democrat party in the US, is indistinguishable from a mental disease.

The problem with making a fool out of yourself on tape is that for the rest of your life, they play it over and over and over again.

CHICAGO Illinois Senator Dick Durbin says he won’t apologize for comments comparing American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Nazis and Soviet gulags.
what a jurk

David_Paul:
Senator Dick Durban needs a name comparable to Hanoi Jane, Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose.

What shall it be?

Al Qaeda Dick? Insurgent Dick?

Any suggestions?
Michael Savage called him Turban Durban yesterday.

A local conservative talk show host on weekends in Chicago calls him Eddie Haskel, from Leave it to Beaver.

Normally I would not repeat this, but Senator Durban called our service people much worse this week, and his comments could cost lives and I AM VERY MAD! I have written him twice about this.

Dick Durbin = Dick Turban

I rather like “Dick Dustbin” which is where I hope his political career goes in the near future.

Did anyone else hear his ridiculous “explanation?” Gee he wasn’t necessarily referring to our military and he really didn’t know if the person referred to in the memo was even a member of the military. I mean it coulda been anyone who just happened to be in charge at Gitmo. Gee whiz folks ya’ll are jumping to conclusions…NOT.

My email to him constituted my pledge to work for his early retirement.

Sounds like he is starting to waffle:

(6-16) Mr. DURBIN. What I have said is, if you were asked, without being told where this might have occurred, as I said here directly in the RECORD, you might conclude that it was done by one of those repressive regimes because that was the kind of heavy-handed tactic they used, the kind of inhumane treatment in which they engaged. You would be surprised to learn that according to the FBI, it was something that occurred at Guantanamo in a facility under the control of the United States of America.

(6-14) Durbin: “If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime–Pol Pot or others–that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.”

The current solution nowadays is that whenever someone disagrees with you that they should resign.

It is a bit tiring though that all people do today is compare others to Hitler.

But let’s not forget we are in a democracy. Maybe some here don’t like that, but people do have the right to say what they please when they please. So don’t get so bent out of shape. Learn to live with the fact people will do and say things you don’t agree with.

Bush and his cabinet, enabled by the media, tell blatant and verfiable lies daily. I hereby call for his resignation…see how silly?

Oh no you don’t. Not the “freedom of speech” dodge. Liberals used that with Ward Churchill. Did anyone say Durbin or Churchill do not have a right to speak?

No.

Liberals use that dodge when they say something to stir up their radical base but know offends the rest of the country.

I don’t have to “learn to live” with anything. What Durbin said will empower those who want Americans dead. You know that and I know that. Al Jazaara has his comments in its headlines today. Just great huh? An American Senator tells a billion Muslims our government is no different than Pol Pot’s, Stalin’s and Adolf Hitler’s regimes… Americans will and have died because of the aid and comfort the left has given to terrorists.

I’m not about to “learn to live” with that.

Btw…learn what kind of a government America has. We do not live in a “democracy”. The United States is a democratically elected constitutional republic.

Liberals hate democracy anyways. As we can see from the filibusters in the Senate and from their reliance on unelected judges to create laws from the bench they cannot get passed at the ballot box.

He has put more servicemen in harm’s way than anyone, and his entire policy causes Muslims to hate us even more - particularly his blind eye toward the abuses as Guantanamo

Do you know how many service men and women died under Johnson’s administration??? So WHAT about the abuses at Guantanamo those people are TERRORISTS!

Oh yes I did! And I stand by what I said. It is not a “dodge”. Read the constitution.

And yes, he is entitled to say what he wants.

Oh, and thanks for the personal attack. The old conservative “let’s insult those we don’t agree with” ploy.

Am I on LemonLymon.com? Any West Wing Fans out there?

Stephen
p.s. Actually we live in a representative democracy. Democracy comes from the Greek, demos-kratia, meaning the rule of the people. Free elections, freedom of speech, that sort of thing.

slewi,

If you read the Constitution, you will see that Osama Durbin has commited treason.

United States Constitution
