I don’t think he’s given aid or comfort to anyone.

And if you think we should we should torture our enemies, then I will pray for you and them.

slewi,

Durbin’s slander of the American military, and his refusal to apologize for it has now been picked up by Al Jazeera’s English operation. One can only wonder what the Arabic broadcasts are saying about the second ranking Democrat in the United States Senate’s declaration that only a “mad regime” like Pol Pot could run a Gitmo.

That IS giving aide and comfort–treason.

Lisa N:
I rather like “Dick Dustbin” which is where I hope his political career goes in the near future.

Did anyone else hear his ridiculous “explanation?” Gee he wasn’t necessarily referring to our military and he really didn’t know if the person referred to in the memo was even a member of the military. I mean it coulda been anyone who just happened to be in charge at Gitmo. Gee whiz folks ya’ll are jumping to conclusions…NOT.
Lisa N
Dick Dustbin is the best moniker I’ve seen

Look, I don’t support what he said. I just think it’s not that big of a deal. We do need to look at how we treat prisoners, but then again, if ya don’t torture 'em, ya don’t get any info, either. Quite the conundrum (if I spelled it right!).

He has put more servicemen in harm’s way than anyone, and his entire policy causes Muslims to hate us even more - particularly his blind eye toward the abuses as Guantanamo

Do you know how many service men and women died under Johnson’s administration??? So WHAT about the abuses at Guantanamo those people are TERRORISTS!
Why don’t you spell out these abuses. And I want proof, not heresay. I’d also remind you these guys are PRISONERS, NOT GUESTS. Further, they are NOT American citizens, nor are they lawful combatants. Keep that in mind when you rail about imagined “abuses” please.

Oh yes I did! And I stand by what I said. It is not a “dodge”. Read the constitution.

And yes, he is entitled to say what he wants.

Oh, and thanks for the personal attack. The old conservative “let’s insult those we don’t agree with” ploy.

Am I on LemonLymon.com? Any West Wing Fans out there?

p.s. Actually we live in a representative democracy. Democracy comes from the Greek, demos-kratia, meaning the rule of the people. Free elections, freedom of speech, that sort of thing.
Wrong bub, it is in no way a representative democracy. The proper title for our form of government is a representative republic. Read what the Founding Fathers had to say about democracy, hint, they despised it.

Bush and his cabinet, enabled by the media, tell blatant and verfiable lies daily. I hereby call for his resignation…see how silly?
It might be silly if I didn’t know you were serious:)

What torture??? We give them copies of the bloody Koran for crying out loud! We handle it with gloved hands so as not “offend” these murderers with our “infidel’s” touch. How many of the people the jihadi’s took hostage got copies of the Bible? Oh, that’s right, NONE. There’s no need for one when they CUT OFF YOUR HEAD!

You think sensory deprivation is torture? Hot and cold temps, sleep deprivation, loud music… NONE of these are torture. Get your facts straight please. They are not in G’itmo on a country club vacation, sheesh!

slewi,

We do not torture them…that is pure anti-Bush, anti-American spin.

Dear Concerned Citizen:

Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Our administration takes these matters seriously, and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington.

You’ll be pleased to learn that thanks to the concerns of citizens like you, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the “Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers” program, or LARK for short. In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care.Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday.

Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of admonishment. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter. Although Ahmed is sociopathic and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his “attitudinal problem” will help him overcome these character flaws. Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences.

He will bite you, given the chance. We understand that you plan to offer counseling and home schooling. Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We suggest you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with your wife or daughters (except sexually) since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him, and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the dress code that he will undoubtedly recommend as appropriate attire. I’m sure your wife and daughters will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the bhurka over time. Just remind them that it is all part of “respecting his culture and his religious beliefs” - wasn’t that how you put it?

Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like you, who know so much, keep us informed of the proper way to do our job. You take good care of Ahmed - and remember…we’ll be watching. Good luck!

Cordially…Your Buddy,
Don Rumsfeld

Wolsley that’s wonderful. I’m glad I’d already swallowed my tea when I read it! BHAHAHAHA!

While funny your commentary is spot on. I recently heard an interview with an MP returning from Gitmo. He said they were attacked, screamed at, had all bodiliy fluids (and solids:eek: ) thrown at them. They inspected each detainee daily and logged any real or imagined injuries. These men were not being tortured. However it rather sounds like torture to have to deal with them on a daily basis.

I am not the one crying about the treatment of terrorists…it was another poster.

Honest mistake Lily, I read your post wrong. My apologies to you.

DURBIN WATCH: CHENEY COMMENTS

By Michelle Malkin · June 17, 2005 03:27 PM

Just received this e-mail from Steve Gill:

Vice President Dick Cheney appeared this morning on Steve Gill Mornings in Nashville, Tennessee and was asked about Dick Durbin’s comparison of U.S. troops at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis. The Vice President noted that he had to be “careful about what I say since this is a family show” but that the “comparison is one of the more egregious things I’ve heard on the floor of the U.S. Senate.”

Steve writes that the full interview will be on the White House website shortly.

Bill Hobbs has audio of the interview up.

The news reported that detainees were routinely woken at 4Am for interrogation like it was worse than the brutality that our enemies have inflicted on POW’s in past wars. Give me a break!

Durbin should resign, and it should be made known throughout the world that he resigned.

You are showing your lack of knowledge of interogation. Any knowledge you get from torure is very suspect. The people who are interogating these guys know that. Turning the A/C down very cold and then off is torture? Give me a break.

While everyone is clarifying everyone else.

I’d like to add in mine: we are a federal presidential democratic republic.

And yes, Durbin ought to resign! But the MSM will let him get away with the treasonous slam on our US military.

I don’t care if he resigns or not, from a political perspective, as long as the Republicans quit being wussies and figure out how to use this stuff in the next election.

As a minimum, I would like to see a formal censure of him.

If he continues to aid and abet the enemy, maybe he needs to be tried for treason.
