He has commited treason and should be forced to resign. We cannot let this go, we must start sending emails, faxes and phone calls to other dems, and to the repubs as well.

Durbin refuses to apologize for Guantanamo Bay comments

CHICAGO Illinois Senator Dick Durbin says he won’t apologize for comments comparing American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Nazis and Soviet gulags.
News of the Democrat’s comparison created a buzz around the Internet today, fueled by sound bites of yesterday’s Senate floor speech on radio talk shows. By this afternoon, Illinois Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna asked Durbin to apologize.

Durbin says the Bush administration should apologize for abandoning the Geneva Conventions.

Human-rights activist groups and some lawmakers – mostly Democrats – want Bush to close the prison.

But administration officials say some of the people who have been detained at Guantanamo later return to fight against the United States.

There is no comparison here, absolutely ridiculous. I bet if you look into what other things he stands for you will probably find other problem areas.

The news reported that detainees were routinely woken at 4Am for interrogation like it was worse than the brutality that our enemies have inflicted on POW’s in past wars. Give me a break!
BAHAHA sounds like every farm kid in America. We got up at 4am to get the wood stove started. I assure you it was WAY below 55 degrees in our house before the fire got going. Then we went out for chores, sometimes in minus fifteen degree weather. I shoulda sued my parents for torture. Do you think the NYT would be interested in my story?

Your family is guilty of nazi like treatment. I demand that we look into this immediatley.

If I were to read you an account of how my Grandmother grew up in a farm in West Texas - you would not think it was an account of an American Family - but an account of treatment in a Stalinist Ghulag, or Nazi Death Camp.

lance,

The problem is Illinois is a hugely democrat state.
A hugely Democratic state, with many red counties I might add, that is filled with many Democrat scandals. Chicago has one per week now. If people would just look at the facts we should be able to get some new blood in power.

Senator McCain was talking about him this morning on a show. I don’t really remember which one it was, but he did say that he needed to appologize for the statement. Or maybe he was talking about Frist. I don’t really remember, because i wasn’t paying full attention to the TV.

I definitely support Durban. After all, Americans should not be using techniques such as inserting glass tubes into the prisoners’ urethra and then beating him in the genital area. :tsktsk:

Oh, wait a minute. I thought Durban was serious about comparing what we did to those other regimes. I didn’t realize it was only a metaphor.

What really happened? Oh, they had to wake up early and listen to some rap music? Ahhhh, yessss, that’s just as bad. Shame on us. Shame on U.S. We can only hope they don’t treat our prisoners as badly. :gopray2:

When Durban, like the rest of the “blame America first” crowd, has a lot of gall supplying Al Quaida with moral support.

Prisoners listened to rap at U.S. military bases.

Let’s see how we compare to what the other side does:

Caution: gruesome video of beheading of Paul Johnson, from one year ago yesterday.

Anyone who supports Dick Durban in his outrageous comparison, and in refusing to apologize to the men and women who put their lives on the line for his freedom to say that stupid garbage, I dare you to watch that video and then come back and say how poorly we treat our prisoners.

Alan

Fitz,

The problem is, the people do not seem to care about facts, they care only about their party affiliation.

I was hospitalized a few months ago. I was woke at 3am to be weighed?!? it seems blood was drawn every two hours. I guess I was tortured.

All in all you have to agree that forcing someone to listen to rap and then to write out the words is the most extreme torture there is. 😃

You make a good point. Whenever I’m in the car and one of my kids turns on rap music, I have a funny urge to puncture my own ear drums even while driving. At least we’re mostly past the disco fad, or the horrors could be beyond mention!

Think about new parents — I mean – they go through the “sleepless” syndrome until baby learns to sleep through the night for months…

There are only 3 explanations for saying something as foolish as what Durbin said, comparing our soldiers to Nazis. 1) He’s stupid enough to believe it, 2) He’s hitting the sauce pretty hard, or 3) He did it for other motivations, such as political.

First, I have met Durbin, and I don’t think he’s stupid enough to believe what the soldiers did is comparable to Nazism.

Second, having me the man, and more importantly having followed his political career as my senator, I don’t believe he is hitting the sauce.

Third, so I beleive his motivation is to fight against those who are his political adversaries. It’s too bad too. His comments can be used as evidence that we are, in fact, the “great satan” that our terrorist enemeies say we are, and used to preach jihad against America. Sadly, his legacy may be “Durbin lied, soldiers died.”

If he thinks our soldiers–the ones who risks their lives to preserve the freedom of speech he is abusing–are the bad guys, it makes me wonder if he really knows who is friends are.

Jay,

He gave aide and comfort to our enemies and increased the risk for our soliders…that is treason, at a miminum he should be forced to resign.

Ditto. Hopefully, voters will boot him if he doesn’t

Voters won’t boot him, they love the guy.
I agree with you. Remember when there were calls for DeLay to resign? Posters on this Forum said correctly that it was strictly up to the voters in his district to decide whether they wanted him or not, and noted that his constituency were for him.

The same goes for Mr. Durbin.

Richardols,

I agree that the Illinois voters have a right to have their voting voices heard. Yet, Durbin was not speaking for Illinois when he commited public oral treason…he was speaking for the entire nation and specifically for the United States Senate. He should resign of his own accord.

Isn’t that what homosexuals do?
…he was speaking for the entire nation
Since when does any man except the President “speak for the entire nation”?
and specifically for the United States Senate.
Absent some proof that he was authorized to speak in the name of the Senate, it’s his own opinion.

Dumb things for him to say, I agree, but since when are stupid remarks any impediments to holding office in this country?
