Do you have the seven or more years it’s going to take to become a psychologist? In my country it’s a degree, then clinical, then back to study at a graduate level. And that’s more or less full time.

And then your Bishop might want your training in other areas. Hoping to help the Diocese Exorcist , and actually doing it are two different things.

I gather you are annulled? Given you are planning to marry and are engaged. These things all have to be taken into account when looking at discerning Vocations such as Deacon.

That’s the sticky part. I’m not yet annulled; though my priest assures me that my annulment should be granted.

It’s very sticky. What about your fiance. Those ducks are all going to need to be in a row, in discerning a vocation with the Church.

True. I’ll have to talk with her about it; but I think she’ll be on board with it.

Your marriage staus needs to be in order. No anullment is sure until you have the decree in your hands.
Also be very clear in your mind that you will do what the biahop wants where he wants it. He may assign you to hospital or prison ministry or the marriage tribunal or to work with Saint Vincent de Paul . You may be assigned to a parish at the other end of the diocess.

That’s also true. Again, my mind is set. If my fiancé okays it and my bishop accepts me; I’ll be like a Jesuit and serve where called.

I figure joining the clergy is like joining the Army. Lol

I’d like to do a spiritual warfare ministry as both a therapist and a Deacon.
This is a very bad idea. It is outside the legal scope of practice for a professional therapist to engage in spiritual warfare. You could be opening yourself to untold lawsuits and liabilities.

Oh my. Not like the army. Every layperson cab give you or the priest or the bishop a piece if their mind. Very unlike military hierarchy.

Do I really soundcthat crazy; like a half baked abortion of a Protestant?
No, you sound like a person who has a lack of clarity about the role of a minister vs the role of a licensed professional therapist.

No you sound like someone near the beginning of discernment of a vocation to the diaconate.

Thank you. I do want to serve the Church that has done so much good. For me. Maybe I should just let go of my own will, offer my gifts and talents and serve however my bishop sees fit.

True. But, I want to go the extra mile. I left an email with the director of the diaconate program at my diocese. I dunno. Maybe I’m just being mercurial and going off on a goof.

All I know is: I want to serve and go the extra mile for my Church.

I’ve reflected on myself and it’s my nature to do good, help others and proclaim and defend the truth. The diaconate seems like a good fit for that.

The question is does ordination as a Catholic clergyman do that?

Yes. I have my doubts; but yes. Holy Orders is the best way, I feel; to serve. If I didn’t have kids; I’d be a priest. I’m that deadly serious. I want to serve my Church in the clergy.
