Yes Michael, listening to what God is trying to tell you is a great first start. There are a lot of other great tips above too. Don’t be discouraged if now is not the time to become a deacon. There was a guy in my aspirancy year who wanted to serve the Lord as a deacon, but because he had two very young children and a wife, the Bishop felt that his call at that time was to serve his family as a husband and dad, and after his children were a little older, to see if he was still being called and to discern again then. I’m not saying you are not being called, trust me I am not qualified to discern that, but always be open to what God wants in your life. As I said earlier, this is not about what I want. I just have to keep my heart and mind open to God’s desires.
