And For Capital Punnishment ?
No, because the reason for Christ is Redemption. As long as one breathes he or she can be saved throughout their natural lives. When the natural life (regardless of the crime committed) is taken away by the state or by another, Redemption of that soul is no longer possible, and that is a heavy burden on the conscience of the one who denies life.

This is very strong reason why capital punishment should be banned in all countries.

Each year dozens of people are killed by those who have previously committed murder.

Most of these murders happen in prison.
I’m not saying that the system we have now is perfect, but I am saying that there has to be another way. Isn’t our duty to figure out what we can do with murderers besides killing them to ensure that they will not harm anybody? Or, should we just kill them? Shouldn’t we want everybody to be alive for as long as possible to give them the chance to repent or change their ways?

I figure about 3 days should be enough time for they to make peace with God. the only other solution I can see it a total lobotomy. basically turn them into vegetation. but then you still have the problem of them being able to ask for forgiveness from God so that really would not work.

the thing we are looking at the punishment as being the deterrent and it is the law that is the deterrent. the punishment is the outcome of not being deterred.

What if God had the same thinking as you my friend? Did God say that if we break his commandments then he will damn our souls after three days or did he say that it is never too late to repent? Most of the people on deathrow feel sorrow, and yet we do not forgive. Do you believe that God has his hand on our actions? If it is not God’s will for these people to die for their crimes then by who’s will our we acting on?

Deliberately inducing a vegetative state is, in my view, abhorrent and utterly despicable, on level with “abortion”. It has nothing at all to do with justice; it’s simple vengeance driven by the most primitive of human instincts, pure and simple.

Having said that:

Basically, I believe that there ARE crimes to which the appropriate punishment is death, and I can’t follow the reasoning that capital punishment should, partout, be against the will of God. If that is the case, He would not have ordered it for several offences (cf OT)

I think the chances of repentance will increase once someone knows the day of their death.

I’m not being trite, I think this is true.

Our job as a society is to protect the innocent.

Some people have forfeited the right to live among us. Let’s pray for their conversion then send them on their way.

I find it unconscionable that anyone would equate the death of an innocent by murder with the death of a murderer by legal execution.

Unfortunately our own society has turned both morals and reason upside down and said that abortion is OK but the execution of criminals is not. Whether the criminal is innocent or not of the crime is not, truly, the issue here.

I submit that it is RIDICULOUS to put the same issues together. One involves the murder of innocent (without question) life and the other involves the legal ending of at least an ALLEGEDLY guilty act.

There is no moral equivalence and it is ridiculous to suppose there is. Those that suppose there is some correlation need to get their head on straight.

I do not support capital punishment, but those who seek to justify abortion by the existence of such laws have got everything BACKWARDS.

You are assuming that those who are against the death penalty are in favor of abortion. This assumtion is untrue in many, many cases. There are two catagories of people who in my opinion have an incomplete understanding of compassion and empathy.
  1. those that are in favor of abortion but against the death penalty
  2. those that are in favor of the death penalty but against abortion
Those that favor abortion and favor the death penalty seem to be in a class by themselves.

The death penalty protects innocent life.

Abortion kills the innocent.

The death penalty protects innocent life.

Abortion kills the innocent.
I wish this were in fact true. However in this murderous society that is so blood thirsty to “get even” propogating the concept of “an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth” does not almost or even mostly “protect innocent” life. Life without parole in confinement if need be is sufficient. I’m with nonsmart on this one. I’m Catholic and very pro-life. The Church is actually against capital punishment. However, it does recognize the civil govenments role in keeping order in attempting to protect the innocent. It seems rather that our society puts folks to death just to get even. There have been far too many people put to death for unspeakable killing while drugged up…not really knowing what they are doing. These are people that should be locked away for ever at worst.

YOu must live in TExAS.😃 We love to hang em first then ask questions later.

Actually you’re assuming that I’m assuming something that I am not assuming, but nevermind…

All too many in this country appear to be in the #1 of your grouping. That is morally indefensible. I cannot speak for the 2nd group, but at least they favor the INNOCENT!

Those that reside in the #1 grouping are, politically, “Democrat”, at least in the USA. In the last election they voted, over 50%, for DEATH in the process of voting for the morally-indefensible-but-very-historic candidate of Obama, the man who supports partial birth abortion (something most people in the USA don’t even know the meaning of, rather conveniently for him!) How very sad that an entire political party has become morally indefensible, don’t you think? They have elected a man who even advocates allowing to die the inadvertent LIFE that ensues from poorly executed abortions! He even wants the accidentally-born to die!

DEFEND THAT!

Obama received 52.9% of the popular vote

Obama received 54% of the Catholic vote.

I really don’t want to get into politics. I just wish that people did not always find excuses to kill.

Killing is not justified.

The idea that a majority of Catholics voted for a person who supports the killing of babies is unconscionable. YES. THEY ARE NOT “FETUSES” THEY ARE BABIES! And Obama even supports the killing of babies who are accidentally born alive, who were intended to be killed through abortion. What kind of crazy people support the killing of children? Is it any wonder that other sorts of murder is given little notice?

I trust we can agree about the fact that killing is not justified.

God forgave Adam and Eve he still punished them. forgiveness had nothing to do with the punishment. Ans yes God did say that if we break his commandments that we are doomed to death It is through Christ that it has been carried out and we do not have to suffer the pain for hell, but will still have purgatory.

I agree totally with everything you have said. my statement about inducing a vegetative state was not to say that I support that as an alternative.
