And if so what’s wrong with that? Would being adopted out be better than being dead?Maybe even to the point that he gives him or her up for adoption.
Only because the father is too self-involved. All the arguments that you presented are arguments from a materialistic viewpoint. So therefore invalid based on the point of your thread.Say then, that an infertile couple adopts the child and everything works out great. The child is a blessing to them, but not to the biological father.
You posited a God at the beginning of the thread so you have to structure your thinking around that premise.
Yes, he was.Was Hitler a blessing? He was created by God.
This is a concept that will probably whiz past your head but everything we receive is a blessing, is a grace. The bad people, the good people, the trials, rejections, because they are the means by which God transforms us in to the image of His Son. There is nothing more important than that goal of being transformed into the image of His Son.
Yes it does go to reason. As Catharine said before some things just don’t go both ways. Children are either blessings or they are not.No, it does not go to reason.
What you mean though is some children are “nice” so the fact that they are blessings are more apparent than those that are “not so nice”.
But the children can turn the table around as well and regard parents in the same way. That is why going down your line of thinking just lands you in the pit.
As I said before, it isn’t. We may perceive it that way but it does not mean that it is.We could be blessings to our parents, bc blessing is subjective.
Take for example rain. To someone indoors it may be perceived as a blessing, but to someone without an umbrella, standing on the pavement waiting for a bus – it may not be perceived as such even though objectively rain is a blessing.
Well, it is an either or.Even if we are not blessings, that doesn’t make us a curse either.
Nope. We are not neutral. If a child is not considered a blessing then the child is a “cause of great suffering and distress” as you illustrated in an example above.Curse: A cause of harm or misery.
-something that brings or causes great trouble or harm
-a cause of great suffering and distress
We could’ve been neutral.
You can’t have it both ways as we keep re-iterating.
It isn’t a ridiculous thing to day. It follows very much from your premise, you just have not thought it through all that well. That’s a ridiculous thing to say. We don’t have to make the same decisions as our parents.
So again I say, if children are not blessings but curses, then YOU are a course. And the fact that you are ABLE to make decisions is because your parent made the decision to allow you to live.
As someone said, those who advocate for contraception and abortion have already been born. It always goes back to being egotistical, self-involved and self-centred.
And while we do not need to make the same decision as our parents in some banal things as career, where to live, etc, etc. one cannot use this lame justification when it comes to a matter of life or death.
Nope. Extending your logic to its natural conclusion because it seems you have not done that before voicing your opinion.Putting words in people’s mouths.
It amounts to the same thing. As I said before, you just have not extended your thinking to its logical conclusion. No one has said anything remotely like that.
So we are back on this “like/not like” argument again? Arguments for and against contraception have nothing to do with whether we like/not like something. You get into a slippery slope of extremes of subjectivism if you base your argument on that. Some people just don’t want to be parents.
If they don’t think they are curses then they must be blessings. So why this frantic avoidance of a blessing? That doesn’t mean they think they are curses.
First of all, I greatly doubt anyone remains “chaste” to avoid kids. One who is truly “chaste” will have his/her life directed to God, so for these people, God’s will is paramount. If that is so, then they will regard children in the same way that God regards children. As Jesus said;: “suffer the little children to come to me”.As Catharina politely reminded us, having children is one of the functions of marriage. Would you be putting those words in someone’s mouth who was chaste bc they didn’t want kids?
