Can Catholics be Democrats?

I agree. A patriot wants their country to do the best things. A nationalist thinks whatever their country does is by definition the best things. The latter is dangerous and leads to unjust and unnecessary wars. White nationalists (or the alt-right) are an especially sick breed. Using those words for them is dangerous as it softens and normalizes what they really are - bigots and racists.

I certainly know good Catholics who register as Democrats, but while I’m not going to engage in an argument, I’m just going to relate my personal experience.

I registered as a Republican for a single election when I was first old enough to vote, which is now a long time ago (Reagan was running for a second term). Thereafter I registered as a Democrat and was one for over two decades. I even briefly held a local Democratic elected party position.

Then I dropped out about two elections ago and switched to the GOP. Due to other positions the GOP holds locally, and because I am genuinely more to the left than the GOP is on many issues, I dropped out of that and registered as an independent. Last Presidential election I cast my vote for the candidates from the American Solidarity Party.

So for me, while I understand others feel differently, I could personally no longer be a member of a party that was basically for abortion on demand and which was become deeply opposed to recognizing that human nature has a biological nature, including as part of that, actual genders.

Exactly, now this is the part where they tell you what nationalists believe without ever asking the nationalist present in the conversation or using a misquote or a quote out of context.

Today’s generation often forget that words mean something. If a person claims to be a fascist, it is to be expected that the response will be to the accepted definition of what a fascist is, not some personal definition one person holds where fascism is really democracy, or socialism, or anything contrary to the actual definition. Nationalism has a similar definition. I guess the way communism and socialism are bandied around, it should be no surprise if this word also is used carelessly.

In this case, the Catholic Church has spoken.

Depending on how it is defined,
that is where you went wrong. now try again and define it as opposed to globalization. self-rule versus world-rule

as in reference to my friend he flips at the depiction of canada as a puppet of the states.

did the brits get out of the eu because they were patriotic or wanted to control their own country especially since they were paying the eu quite a bit and to some not getting enough in return.

obama was a globalist and this is what many people rebelled against.

ymmv

I don’t follow, is this a typo? You might be describing patriotism and not nationalism, but I can’t tell.
no it is not a typo, i didn’t define it you did. his canada first is a self rule issue and not being seen as a puppet of the us.

but from your post i can see why you didn’t get it. are you a globalist?

I have no idea of what you are saying. Are you disagreeing with Karl Keating or St. John Paul?
i don’t know. is karl or st john paul a globalist?

what are their views on globalization.

does a country have a right to self rule or must it follow a global government.

i believe the bible doesn’t show a global government until the anti-christ comes and forces globalization on us.

I have no idea. I can hardly even find a definition for the word. It seems rather new. I spoke only of nationalism, which is a term that has been around for over a century. Pope Leo XIII used the term in 1890. The closest definition I can find on globalist, is “globalism:”
a national policy of treating the whole world as a proper sphere for political influence

Hi Rose, congrats on choosing to pursue RCIA. I view this the same was as joining the PTA. The PTA at its programmatic state and national tiers supports certain positions with which I disagree. I join at the local level to be able to participate in providing support the kids’ school activities. It may be that a political party is fielding candidates who you think will provide you with better representation and programs, and that is why you choose it. These parties do have national and state platforms, however, and it is worth taking a look at these. The Democrat Party last year adopted a plank not only supporting abortion but supporting it fairly unlimited and with taxpayer support. If these parties espouse planks which do not square with your values, then do not donate to them or their associated or fellow-traveler PACs . Just donate to the candidates possessing values with which you can agree.

Brexit was a move about sovereign rights. The EU formerly the EC made all kinds of promises that this kind of oversight and control would have happened. Keep in mind the EU Parliament has no real power—it’s all a show for the low information crowd. Most the real work is done in committees. As far as I know, everything the UK proposed has been stalled.

If anything, the EU’s protectionist policies for its own inefficient industries are nationalistic in the economic sense. All this has done is raise the price of goods and raw materials for its citizens.

Yes, and all I found was how it was an insult the right uses, like “liberal.” A definition was elusive. It seems to be a new term. It is also irrelevant. I was speaking of nationalism. I do not give two cents about the current conservative narrative, or Brexit, or the EU.

don’t know what you are searching for

from cnn:
Berlin (CNN)Former President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday mounted a staunch defense of their brand of liberal global democratic politics amid a surge of populist feeling around the world.
Obama and Merkel:
“There will be no return to a world before globalisation,” they argued in business magazine Wirtschaftswoche.

“We owe it to our companies and our citizens, indeed to the entire world community, to broaden and deepen our cooperation.”

As I said, I searched for “globalization”.
i don’t know i googled it and an article by forbes is on the first page. it seems balanced.

My bad. It was “globalist” that I searched. That was the word used in your questions. I missed that you switched terms.
