Von,

If you want the Republicans to overthrow Roe v. Wade, then you must give them SOLID majorities … sufficient to appoint new Supreme Court Justices.
Unfortunately, the converse does not hold. If you do give the Republicans a solid majority, they may still not overturn Roe v. Wade.

As an outsider to American politics, yet a person who has travelled in those circles, it’s easy to find yourself torn.

Between that of the individual and that of the group.

Each person brings their own taint. So too does a body of people carry its own overtone, unique from any one solitary view.

The American Democratic Party and indeed the wider government is a moral disrace. If you had any idea of the sort of corruption you were actually dealing with; few of you would ever vote again in good conscience.

Yet you do anyway. In a society controlled by money, greed and the need for ‘security’, people find themselves in a situation where choices are made regardless of larger truth.

In many ways, the ‘truth’ is that your affiliation is mostly meaningless. People around the world pull the strings of government. With trade, alliance and political leverage.

Times never change. The control you have is a mere illusion against the tide of secular jousting between those who have agendas far larger than issues they consider trivial like abortion.

Far from conspiracy theory; it is my experience at the UN that has shown me the face of meaning in a secular western world. Comfort, ignorance and security are bliss indeed.

The democrat party in America is funded by some of the most evil people you can imagine in this world. But they aren’t the likes of those that will smile at you on tv.

So imo it is best not to debate the subject as if choosing a side is a display or anything more than Chinese whispers. The duping of people who think they know the face of politics from a few argued issues. When in the end, what matters is what sells and affords power over chaos.

A dichotomy secularism created all by itself.

If I was American I’d be ashamed to vote democrat. But that’s purely on the basis of who the party serves. Not what individuals profess.

And ultimately, isn’t that the kick? You vote off of the campaign of a person who aims to make a difference; a person that in truth is shackled by things they can’t change in the slightest anyway. Not unless the banker agrees.

Don’t dwell too much on the constructs of fools. Less you be corrupted by them yourself.

How is turning our backs on the poor and elderly, while giving big tax
breaks to corporations living up to that?

I will never understand.

we have spent 20 trillion dollars trying to eradicate poverty and haven’t come close. it is time to try something else. throwing money at it doesn’t work.

more to the point is the welfare state. we have engineered the welfare system to keep the poor under control. throwing money in this regards works exactly as planned.

You can debate and you can present evidence and you can argue and you can bicker.

But it doesn’t matter how strong the argument is, you will never win; they will never concede.

Where in the #%^& do I argue it as a right worth protecting?
If you vote for a pro-choice candidate or you yourself are pro-choice, then the very argument of ‘pro-choice’ states that abortion is a right worth protecting.
Ah. So I didn’t.

But to your point; since neither party is going to ban abortion, I no longer consider that a relevant issue to vote on. Trade, deficit spending, their views on how to make healthcare more accessible and how to best leave the Middle-East currently represent 90% of how I determine who I will vote for.

You know; things that actually change.

So just give up?
As an issue that can be changed with your vote? Yes. Because it isn’t going to change.

Reps are 34% pro-choice and rising. How many members of rep leadership have sponsored abortions that we don’t know about? There’s plenty we do…

Reps aren’t going to ban abortion. A vote purely on that basis is a vote wasted.

You don’t know that…
No, no I don’t. But all the information I have at my disposal indicates that this is very, very likely. They don’t have the political will to do it and that will is diminishing even as we speak. More and more reps are pro-choice and both the number and rate of abortions has been steadily dropping for decades (thanks be to God), which removes “steam” from the issue.

Republicans aren’t going to ban abortion. They didn’t do it during Bush’s 1st term when they had the Presidency and both chambers of congress. They’re never going to do it.

Yet even at it’s lowest in 2014 you have the blood of 926,190 innocent children on your hands if you vote for a pro choice candidate.
I knew it would eventually would come to that statement. There will always be someone to cross the line with that statement. That statement is personal opinion Nothing more. Nothing Less. You will not find any support of that statement from the Vatican or the USCCB.

When I first saw that statement being made in 2002, I began a quest to see if that statement is true. I have asked 96 Priests so far if that statement is true. I’ve have visited a lot of confessionals/Parishes in a lot of states when I travel. 93 so far have said no.

And as over a third of Republicans are pro-choice and trending upward AND its well-known that many Republican voters are single-issue pro-lifers, the party will fail to overturn Roe for the NEXT 45 years.
I don’t see it being overturned either. One of the reasons is 4th and 14th amendment considerations. Supreme Court will be hard pressed to overrule Due Process and Right to Privacy which was the basis for Roe vs Wade.
Tell yourself this in the mirror tonight; The Republican Party doesn’t want to overturn abortion. They just want to LOOK like they want to overturn abortion.
The many, many republican leaders who have talked mistresses into abortions themselves bears grim testimony to this fact.
And that grim testimony is the truth of the matter. I really don’t see Reps doing away with their own family protection. “I would I want to end Abortion, when I would need it so badly if my mistress got pregnant”.

I will never understand.
And neither will those that voted for Trump.

Very well said. But those that can’t get pass the irrelevant abortion issue, will never see whole picture.

I justify it in a similar way, taking the total position and actions of the candidate into consideration, putting them all on a weighted list and voting for the candidate with the highest, resulting, number. Then I go to confession!

That’s a lie. Abortion is the most relevant issue to vote on every time we vote. You even had Trump give a list of pro-life judges he would choose from, while the other candidate said she would only choose those who considered roe v wade ‘settled law’.

So what you have just said is a total lie.

“For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

Thank you for reading.

You say turning your back on the poor and elderly (not true), when it is the democrats who push euthanasia onto the elderly and despairing, and it is the democrats who push abortion onto the poor.

You criticize one party for apparently not helping the poor, yet you support a party that instead helps the poor kill their children? What is that other than the greatest kind of hypocrisy?
I will never understand.
Neither will I.

“There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion even among Catholics about waging war and applying the death penalty, but not however with regard to abortion and euthanasia.” - Pope Benedict XVI

“Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture- is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.” - St Pope John Paul II, Christifideles Laici, n. 38

Why do you consider abortion an irrelvant issue? Once upon a time, slavery was “settled law” in the US, as were segregated schools. The first was resolved by a war, the second was resolved by the SC’s admission that a former ruling was an error. SC justices are not the pope, when they make a bad ruling, it can be overturned.

For me, what is important is what direction we are headed. Are we headed in a direction where abortion becomes settled law then an irrelvant issue? I do not want that for my country, altho I realize others do.

The fact that it is taking a long time to rectify the wrong of Roe v Wade does not mean no one is doung anything. In fact, quite a lot has been done in the century, after decades of chipping away at the pro-abortion monolith. 30 years ago, parental permission could not get by the courts, now many states have this law. And so on.

Yep, I’d rather vote for people who will work bit by bit towards eradicating murder in our country than to vote for people who actively work against that. Weird, I know, but…

As an outsider to American politics
Thank you for that perspective, I don’t view things a dim as you do, neither have I witnessed what you have, I have hope though, for example, with Trump he did not rely heavily on outside funding as other candidates have and thus he is not controlled by such people as other candidates would have been. Partly why I think such people hate him so much. Because someone not beholden to their donors, is someone they can’t control.

God Bless You

Thank you for reading.

No, it isn’t. Issues that can change are far more important.

Republicans have wasted their vote on this for 45 years. I’m sure the GOP leadership is delighted that you’ll continue to be such a low maintenance vote for the Next 45 years.

But that is absolutely your choice.

Issues that can change are far more important.
How about slavery? Abraham Lincoln even denied being an abolitionist, so why vote for him? Should’ve just accepted slavery as unchanging I guess.

Thank you for reading.
