I wonder if he’s just trying to have some “fun” with us Catholics… I at least hope this post was made for disingenuous reasons than believe anyone would seriously believe what this person professes to believe.

Wondered a little myself. :o

You wouldn’t happen to own a single leather glove and have had multiple nose jobs would you? Oh, I’m sorry - he died of a drug overdose. But you are just as sick. Probably worse as he never tried to use the Virgin Mary as an excuse for pedophilia.

Wow, let’s leave the King of Pop lie 😦

I think the complex nature of this subject is being reduced to very broad statements.

First, before anything else, if I had to make a snap assessment, I would say that in this modernists culture it is nearly impossible for any girl aged 16 to be able to understand what marriage is, to be able to reasonably enter in to a mutual sacrament that is marriage, and for the relationship to be predicated on the precept of two becoming a new, single flesh.

With that in mind, I think that it is wrong to allege mental disorder or worse. There are girls aged 16 who are fully developed and physically not children and many American states have a low age to marry (some as low as 13).

Our society is very different than even a hundred years ago. We are very regimented in terms of schooling, we procure life’s necessities in very different ways, and many tools of the enemy constantly bombard us that frustrate our progress to holiness. Therefore, I find in hard to believe that there can be a natural marriage given the parameters of the situation described.

As always, a great place to start is with a priest.

My apologies I was just taken aback by the question. I would say that in this case the OP seems to be coveting someone’s innocence- if she isn’t innocent then there probably is a bigger problem.

How does one even answer a question like this, really? It shouldn’t even be a question anyone would ask to begin with.

I just hope the OP is joking/trolling.

I think this is pretty much black and white. An adult wanting to be romantically involved with a child is pedophilia.

May one enquire how the OP went from this post a few days ago. . .
There’s a lot of pain in my life, as I know there is in most people’s lives. I just took some pictures of myself for my Facebook profile pic, and what I see in those pictures is an overweight male with tired eyes who doesn’t smile very easily. I’m in my late 20s, still living at home due to personal debt, and am now seeking therapy from a psychologist. I don’t suffer from depression, or if I do then it’s very mild, but I try to be happy, I try to be social, and try to be outgoing. There’s just something missing, and my pastor says it’s integrity.
When I look at those pictures I took, I don’t see integrity. When I look at myself, I’m disappointed in my weight (though I’m going to the gym 5 days a week), I’m disappointed in myself due to my sins, and I’m disappointed in myself due to my financial and living conditions.
Last night I went out with a girl. This is the first girl I’ve been out with in 5 years. And it felt really good. It wasn’t a date, per se, but it felt good to care for someone, to look after her pocketbook, to ask her if she needed a ride home, and to give her a hug. It assured me in some small way that things aren’t so bad after all. I don’t know if we’ll ever do anything again.
I’m hurting. The Holy Spirit has made me aware of this. I plan on continuing to see my therapist, without a doubt, but I was just wondering if anyone here could help me learn ways to find integrity and to be proud of who I am, who God created me to be, no matter what I look like?
And prayers are always welcome.
In which, as you note, he states he has been out with this girl (the first girl he has been out with in 5 years) and not really ‘on a date’. . .

to asking if he can **marry his 16 year old girlfriend?

**It puzzles me. It doesn’t add up.

I was actually curious what the laws are by state (since I know people always make fun of Alabama). After a quick Google search (read: not a legal opinion), it appears that the minimum age for marriage with parental consent is between 14 (Alabama) and 16 (most states). Most states have a minimum age of 18 for marriages without consent. The exception is Mississippi, where the minimum age is 21 without consent. Also, most states seem to have some provision that will allow marriages less than the minimum age (i.e. less than 16) if there is a pregnancy involved.

I would be outraged, but given that the OP made the following post just last week, I doubt this is a serious question. He just needs to know someone is reading his posts, so he made a comment he knew would get a response. (You don’t need to do that - people do care about you without resorting to these sorts of things)

If you are having relationships with a 16 yr old girl, which is below the age of consent, you a rapist and should be incarcerated.

Monkciate, were you just pulling our leg here? Or were you asking in a hypothetical? Or is the girl you went out last week with a 16 year old girl…in which case I would advise you to cut all future contact with her and perhaps wait to give her a call on her 18th birthday to ask for the second date.

Nope, sorry, no compassion AT ALL required for 28 year olds trolling for 16 year olds. That is the situation presented by the OP, so that’s what we’re responding to.

I amend my earlier comments. If what the OP said in that previous post is all true, then the reason he wants a 16 year old is that he is, so far, a failure as a man. He wants a 16 year old because she is too young, inexperienced, and naive to know that she should require much more than what he has to offer. He can take the short route to feeling good about himself by having trapped a 16 year old into having a sexual relationship with him.

If the 16 year old “girlfriend” is indeed the girl he’s gone out with once, well then my husband just went from training his 12 gauge on this guy to safety off and finger on the trigger. Because if he’s looking to marry her after one non-date, he’s a mentally and emotionally deranged stalker who is dangerous to her and us.

COMPASSION? THIS IS STATUTORY RAPE???

Any way you try to rationalize this, it is deeply immoral.

I’m 28 years old, and I’m a guy. Find someone your own age.

This is outrageous!

Think of it…what if this girl was your daughter?

Some people on this forum get angry at people for being “cafetira catholics”. I’'ve seen some very mean things said about these people. I ask you-What is worse? Being a Cafe Catholic, or a 28 year old man even thinking about this?

I always get accued of being too compassionate, and most of the time, I accept it. I have a huge heart, and I can be emotional at sometimes. But this is sick, sick, sick.;

COMPASSION? THIS IS STATUTORY RAPE???
First of all, it is not statutory rape in all states. In fact, the age for statutory rape is 15 or younger in 31 states (as creepy as it is that I now know that, thanks to this thread). But that’s not my point…

My point is that, based on previous posts, I seriously doubt the OP is involved with a 16 year old girl. In fact, I doubt the OP is involved with any girl based on that last post. I also doubt that the OP is “trolling” for minors (as this would be the last place in the world to do that).

What is most likely happening is that the OP wants some attention. So, he created a thread that he knew would be controversial. This would force people to react negatively, they would challenge him and PM him, and he would get attention. You’re not lonely when people are yelling at you.

edit: and I’m proud to say that Florida is one of the few states that apparently has the age set at 18. For a state with so much that goes wrong, finally something is right.
