Can Ron Paul win?

I don’t think he can win the nomination because he is too much like me. He is not good at compromise and way too honest when he votes for the common good instead of the interests of his own district alone. He is pretty much alone on some financial issues like getting rid of the Federal Reserve System all together. Even I would not go that far.

However, if he did get the nomination and run against possibly the worst president ever, I would vote for him in a minute and go door to door to convince my neighbors to do the same.

I see this statement ad nauseum from the Paulbots (Hello, 9/11 Truthers!) but do you realize those donations are self-proclaimed?

I could go to the Paul website, make a donation, and list my occupation as “Chinese fighter pilot” but that doesn’t mean I am.

Does that mean that Paul has the highest amount of Chinese fighter pilot donations?

No.

Sincerely, a military combat vet who hasn’t donated to Paul.
I actually checked those claims against PolitiFact.com, which rated it as true. I attached the link so that you can judge for yourself, but I’m aware of all the caveats associated with the claims.

Interestingly, you’re undoubtedly aware that none of the other candidates are contesting the fact.

Full disclosure, I won’t be voting for Ron Paul in the primaries (because I can’t vote Republican without changing my registration, and I left the Republican party a few years ago).

And since I’m disclosing: I’m a career military officer with multiple overseas deployments (including Afghanistan) and a 3-year permanent assignment in Asia. I also work at the Tier 2 level.

Also there was a typo in my earlier post “small” should have read “smaller” referring to servicemembers desire for a more circumspect application of force in foreign policy and for a SMALLER military footprint (including a smaller budget).

I agree with you. I just don’t think the political machine will let him get the nomination. I will probably vote for him anyway. I think Mitt Romney is going to be the Republican canidate though. Too bad, because he’s kind of a waffler.

Gingrich Signs NOM’s Marriage Pledge, Leaving Only Paul Among Major Candidates Not To Have Signed

“Many of Ron Paul’s supporters in Iowa believe that he is on their side when it comes to preserving traditional marriage, but he isn’t,” Brown said. “While Paul says he personally believes in traditional marriage, he has refused to sign our pledge and, worse, has said that marriage is strictly a private affair and that government has no role in regulating marriage. This is a dangerous position with profound consequences for society.”

somehow I find that less dangerous than perpetual war with an unsustainable economic or human cost. And no one should be surprised that Paul has declined to sign any “pledge” to take federal-level action on social issues, that would be incongruent.

(BTW, that’s not to say I fully agree with him…)

None of looks good does it?

I heard Jimmy Swaggart on TV tell his viewers, that Abortion and Gay Marriage are the deal breakers. You have to hold your nose and walk in and pull the lever this year. 😃

I’m not hearing much love for Obama by my Southern brother’s. Course he’s not to fond of Catholic’s either but thats a story for another day.

Even though Ron Paul doesn’t openly oppose “gay marriage” I would actually argue that he is not for it.

When asked if he believes homosexuality is a sin, he says “it’s a tricky situation”. Maybe he understands same sex attraction isn’t a sin. It’s just sexual activity. By skirting the question, I believe that he wont cave to the gay agenda, but that he is using language in a way as to not anger people who advocate for so called “gay rights” so he wont lose potential voters.

I agree on his stance that the government shouldn’t deal with marriage (which would mean “gay marriage” would be impossible) and that it is a religious matter. We know the church doesn’t even acknowledge civil marriages.

Although I would be more strict on the issue, I’m not a one issue voter. People need to look at the whole picture.

When asked if he believes homosexuality is a sin, he doesn’t give a straight answer. Maybe he understands same sex attraction isn’t a sin. It’s just sexual activity. Here is your choices:

Democrat: Start a war today and bankrupt the country tomorrow.

Republican: Go to war tomorrow and bankrupt the country next week.
I’m sorry, bbarrick, but I don’t buy into that Bildeberger tinfoil hattery.

The biggest caveat (fruit of the poisoned tree, counsel) is “individuals who listed their employer as a branch of the military”.

As you probably know, opinions vary in the military. I saw no great favor (or opposition) to Paul’s policy, either officer or enlisted.

Thank you for your service.

No, his ideas about foreign policy are too extreme for most Americans.
Why is getting our nose out of the business of others extreme? We would avoid foreign wars that we have no business in that cost American lives, a great deal of money, and create further conflict with other nations. If Newt or Romney become president I would expect we will be involved in yet another military quagmire in Iran.

Our policy of policing the world for the last 50+ years has not done us any good. It kills American prosperity, wastes lives, and gives terrorists reason to attack us.

Carlan, does your state count write in votes if someone written in has not officially registered aa a write in candidate? I’m not sure mine does. I don’t think it does. But some might. Maybe if Paul does not win the GOP nomination, he will run as an Indep.

But to answer Gilliam’s question, absolutely I believe Paul could win Iowa.
Yes, I think so and I understood most States do but I can’t say for sure about the count and being officially registered as a write in I could be very wrong. Peace, Carlan

Does this mean you’ll be writing in Paul, or just hoping he runs 3rd party to ensure an Obama victory? 😉

I’m afraid this is what will happen. I am in the camp who will vote Libertarian (or an independent Paul ticket) if he doesn’t win the GOP nomination. If he runs as a third party I would imagine it will seal Obama’s victory.

I believe polls show that amongst younger primary voters Paul is in the lead. I hope that he at least has a lasting effect of moving the GOP somewhat in his direction. I think if the GOP wants future support from my generation it will almost have to.

Too many people in this country are still of the opinion that America is entitled to take military action against any nation in the world at any time. I remember when Hugo Chavez stated that the US may be planning to attack Venezuela, and that he was militarily preparing his country for that possibility. What did I hear from a surprising number of people “That #$%^& ! We should take him out right now”

I believe he is considered a good candidate because of what he would do to help fix this country and its economy. I honestly have no doubts about what he would do there. His foreign policy is what gets him into trouble.

It’s not possible to allow Iran to have nuclear weapons in this day and age regardless of the argument that we should mind our own business, etc. Islamic leaders hate us and want to destroy western civilization whether Europe or the United States if it ever becomes a possibility for them.

Too many millions of lives could/would be at risk with this kind of policy, and unfortunately for Paul, it will remain his downfall because of it…

But if it’s any consolation, I’m a big Rand Paul fan…

Gingrich or Santorum in 2012! 👍
