Greetings and peace be with you wisdomseeker

The question of oneness, and the teachings of the Catholic Church, troubles me deeply, despite all our differences the same God hears all our prayers.

Watch the Torbay Street Pastors clip, and listen to the two senior police officers talk about, crime reduction since Street Pastors started. The figures seem amazing, especially as they come from senior police officers.

I really don’t think that it is the Street Pastors, who are responsible for all the good things happening. I believe it is the power of prayer, and of God answering the joint prayers from all of us.

I am going out tonight, and our team will consist of a Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist, Community Church, and a Catholic. We have teams of other denominations praying for us too.

We thank God for all that he does for us, but why should God answer all our prayers, from a seemingly divided ministry of many denominations?

Blessings

Eric
Eric, I will pray for you in your work tonight, for your safety, and for all the good you are doing. God bless you. My thinking in response to your question is one word… love. Because God loves all His children. And He knows there are Christians everywhere, of various denominations, united with the Father’s Son striving to do their best to love Him as well. To the best of their understanding. But that’s my take on it.

God Bless you Eric.He answers the prayers because He doesn’t see any of you as demoninations, just as believers in Christ, like He sees all of us.

i think i know why God loves children. because they don’t understand and they don’t care about denominations or all the complicated things adults always debate between each other. they simply love and obey God.
maybe we should learn from children sometimes

teresa, Jesus tells us what you said

Matt18:3 I assure you that unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.

4 The greatest in the Kingdom of heaven is the one who humbles himself and becomes like this child.

I recently read these words by a Protestant pastor and his words rang so true…

The One who brings us together is far more important than whatever differences set us apart.

We are one in Christ.

“For He is our peace, He who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh” (Eph 2:14)

:amen:
Us human beings are too pridefull to accept that. If we are all one, then that means that we are wasting our time arguing over who is better. It would also mean that all this heaven and hell stuff is merely a scare tactic to control peoples minds. It would mean that we have the power to fix the corruption in this world, and you must admit that it is much easier to watch t.v. and wait for Jesus to come out of the clouds and make it all better.

Greetings and peace be wwith you CMatt25; thank you for your prayers.

I feel it is important to be as one with my community, most things I need are within a 15 minute walk of home, my work, shops family, and friends. We also have eight denominational churches within walking distance, and I feel I should be as one with them, they are my neighbours.

I am a Catholic, and I should be as one with the Pope, but he is a thousand miles away, and he is not my neighbour, in my community. As such I feel I have a greater need to strive to be as one with my community despite all our differences.

It seems strange that the Pope living a thousand miles away, should be in a position to say, who I should be as one with in my community. I really do feel a blessing, being able to pray with people from other churches.

Every blessing

I hope and pray that it is ok to agree to you. It is important I feel to be in contact and pray with all peoples, regardless of faith.
would make life a lot more pleasant and Christ like.

***I am sorry :o to HAVE TO report that you and the pastor, no doubt a good and holy person as are you, are completely wrong on this premis.

Christ knew exactly what He was doing is FUNDING ONLY ONE CHURCH through which all salvation MUST FLOW.

What you are saying sounds nice, BUT gives equality of Faith, beleifs an practices where equality simply cannot, and most certainly does not exist.

We ought to pray for such a reconing; but it can ONLY happen when they accept our Ccatholic beliefs, teaching and practices. Catholism simply cannot be reduced to accomidate even such nobel goals as you suggest. There can be, and there is only ONE single TRUTH on every issue of Faith and Morals. By God’s own plan and design that TRUTH on all matters of Faith and or morals resdies ONLY in its fullness within the CC.

While the Pope, the Magisterium and a great many Catholics pray for the day to come soon, there are vast differences that need be acknowledged and addressed before it can happen.

Catholics in a REAL sense are God’s New Chosen People. Sadly many do not live that reality.

Attempts to lump us all togeather threatens truth.

Love and prayers,

Pat***

Hi Pat, but you will agree we are united as one in our faith in Christ as the Messiah, correct? In His sacrifice for us on the cross? That He is peace and He is more important than any differences?

***Hi Matt,

The question seems to be God’s defined and expressed Will [which seems to me MUST BE perfect] versus human understanding and application of charity.

Indeed it is good that we all know who God is, and love and worship the same Triune God.The other two points however I can’t in total agree with you on.

The sacrifice of the Cross as understood by the CC leads to our Redemption. A GREAT many churhces of non-catholic faith understand that that this act leads to there salvation. OSAS. Sadly it does not; its hold that possibility, but it is conditional.

Again, one ought not make light of our differences. Certainly God Himself will not.It is totally inadiquate to claim that simply because we have in common, One Baptism and belief in the Trinue Godhead that that this somehow translates to a sort of parity. It does not.:o

Wish it were different does not make it reality.

Love and prayers friend.

so, you feel being wiht those who are in disobedience is more pleasing to God than being in obedience to Christ’s Church?

"To be right in everything, we ought always to hold that the white which I see, is black, if the Hierarchical Church so decides it" St ignatious of Loyola

i think this pastor was referring to the issue of abortion only. we are one because we believed that this is evil. we are not one in Faith.

The Church is fighting relativism today more than ever. that is because protestants and others are trying to make people believe that there is not One Truth. they are trying to make people beleive that everybody got some truth, therefore, we all together make up the whole Truth. that is not what Jesus tought, neither did the Apostles.
their main line today is that the CC is trying to have a monopoly on the Truth.

This is one more heresy to discredit the Church Jesus built. to undermine the Church and to prevent people from entering the CC.
it is true that there are many truths however these truths can not contradict each other. you may have truth on some things but that doesnt mean you have truth in all things. another myth is that belief makes something true for the one that believes it. Could you give an example of a protestant “truth” that is relative?

First, there arent many Truths, there is only One Truth. what is a protestant truth? what truth does protestant have that was not taking from the CC?

Actually no he was not speaking about abortion only. I’m not certain how you reach the conclusion he was not referring to faith when he said “We are one in Christ”?

Anyway in context he said, " We don’t have to agree with each other. Room is allowed for different viewpoints and perspectives on a host of issues. We believe in the freedom – and responsibility – of all of us to studiously and prayerfully reflect on scripture and come to our own conclusions. We can and should listen to and learn from each other. But we do not condemn, exclude and divide over different interpretations. The One who brings us together is far more important than whatever differences set us apart.

I do agree the CatholicChurch is fighting today more than ever. Hopefully that fight does not have the opposite effect of what may be intended, and in hindsight the fight ends up pushing folks further away. Time will tell.

To answer my question however, from some of the posts, I guess no we can’t agree that faith in Christ unites us as one. 🤷
I think there are differing ideas about what should/does divide us. I have seen some on the Catholic side say I am excluded from Christ’s church if I dont take the proper sacraments presumably from a Catholic priest(please correct me if I have that wrong wisdomseeker) others on the extreme protestant side have said Catholics are excluded from Christ’s church because prayers to Mary are blasphamas(I hate it when my spelling is so bad that spell check cant figure out what Im trying to spell!😊). But there are those of us who believe that a perfect understanding of ALL truth is not what matters to the Lord and that there are certain essentials but primarily it is a heart condition that will be judged. If that is true then we are in fact brothers and sisters in Christ.

Wisdom, are you saying being with other Christians to do Christ’ s work with troubled youth on the street is not beiing obedient to Christ?

what you are doing is putting works before the Teachings of our Lord. dont you belief Jesus built One Church?

We can agree on many things. I have to point out, though that the things we agree upon are the things the Catholic Church worked out centuries ago, and decided upon in its various councils. What our separated brethren need to do is learn the history of the Church, how and why it teaches what it does. Most who actually take the time and trouble are often reconciled to the Church. Those who aren’t come away with a new respect for what they have as Protestants due to the faithfulness of the Catholic Church.
Yes I think this has been true for me as I expressed in the thread “thank you to the people on this forum”. I have grown as a Christian as I have engaged in the discussions here. I dont feel at all like I want to convert but I have developed a completely different understanding and respect for the RCC that I didnt have before.

as you can decipher by this thread we tend to be disunited and weakened against evil…that is the great sin of Martin Luther, now look at us, so many denominations spread apart like dust in the wind.
Is the gospel being preached in all the world? are the naked being clothed? are the hungry being fed? are the captives being set free? If yes then the gates of Hell have not prevailed!

many opinions indeed. it is like some are trying to create a whole new religion.

but Christ has given us A Church, One Church. the reason there are so much confusion is because opinions of men seem to be prevailing over the Word of God. being outside of that One Church, they are free to build churches based on their own opinions without an understanding of who God is and what He says. it seems that as time passes, people are more and more convinced that what they think that what jesus said it is more important than what Jesus in Truth spoke.
Because of what the Pope says that we can call others bretheren in Christ, people now have the tendency to desbelief everything else the CC teaches. it is the spirit of modernism ruling our minds and hearts instead of the Spirit of Christ.
