Open, closed primaries make difference for Trump, Cruz
The difference for races in the coming weeks may come between open and closed primaries.
An open primary means anyone can go into and vote in any party primary. A closed party means only registered party voters can vote in that party’s primary.
So far establishment party voters in closed primaries favor Senator Ted Cruz. Open primaries are going to Donald Trump. The Florida primary in two weeks is closed, which might favor Senator Marco Rubio. But polling shows Trump with a big lead there already.

It will probably take one more Super Tuesday for things to shake out. TX was always gonna be a big haul for Cruz, he won’t repeat that one again (half his delegate haul).

Rubio is the one who underperformed, not Trump. Over the next several months, the GOP will accept the inevitable.
Actually, I’ll say that Mr. Trump underperformed what I expected and this is far from over. I think the projections from the AP show that the delegate breakdown from yesterday will be:

Trump 234
Cruz 209
Rubio 90
Kasich 19
Carson 3

So, Mr. Trump won the day, but he didn’t do as well as I expected he would (he won 42% of the delegates, whereas I expected close to 50%). That said, Senator Rubio still underperformed. The winner of the day was Senator Cruz, who was the only one to exceed expectations.

That said, I don’t expect Governor Kasich to drop out before Ohio (March 15th) where I expect he’ll get enough delegates to be a player at a brokered convention.

On the other hand, I think that Senator Rubio will continue to get money and will hang around. He definitely can gain enough delegates to be a player at the convention.

Mr. Carson is a non-entity at this point.
Personally, I think the odds of a brokered convention just went up a lot.
Yesterday’s winner was chaos in Cleveland in mid-July.

FACTS DO MATTER.

Cruz gained 209 delegates yesterday–only 44 came from Texas. Had he crossed the 50% line, he would have gained all of the Texas delegates (155), and that would have put him ahead of Trump in the delegate race. Had it been an election of Cruz versus Trump (in Texas) there is little doubt Cruz would have gotten more than 50% of the vote.

Cruz is correct when he says he is the only candidate who has proved he can beat Trump. And had the field been more narrow, he would have won several additional states and he’d be leading by a good amount.

Cruz is far from perfect–but he is miles above Trump and he is also an outsider candidate.

Yes, facts matter and here is my source

TX Delegate count
99 Cruz
33 Trump
  • 3 Rubio
Cruz got 44% of the TX vote, not 44 delegates.

We’ll just agree to disagree on Cruz’s potential.

Not to press the point, but how? Passing meaningless laws does little good, other than make people feel as if they did something. If a pregnant woman can still to go her doctor and get an abortion for pretty much any reason they create, how will that change anything?

I am not trying to be argumentative–it is just that for 30 years we have lip service about life, and the truth is, women who want abortions will easily get them even with the life exception. The only way that exception could work is if very strict monitoring controls were placed in the bill–yet, we all know that won’t happen.
I guess I have a belief that doctors won’t want to risk breaking the law by lying about ‘life threatening’ conditions.

Not to every individual or every religion! Judaism takes a middle road on abortion.
‘Focus on real dangers’
**
“Jewish law for millennia has been extremely clear, that abortion is only permitted when the life of the mother is directly threatened,”** he said. To link Jewish tradition to the pro-choice position is “ludicrous and ignorant.”
Nevertheless, abortion on demand is fundamentally contrary to Jewish law, and the general Jewish community attitudes reflect “a deep problem in our community; that we have gotten very far from the idea of viewing children as a blessing, which is the traditional Jewish approach.”
Medved said he told the WRL audience about his experience of blessing his three children every Sabbath eve. “When you put your hands on the heads of your children, you don’t bless them saying, ‘I’m so glad I made a choice here.’” The blessing is “an acknowledgement that children are a gift, not a choice.”

I agree with Medved. Abortion on demand is contrary to the moral teaching of ALL forms of Judaism, and ALL rabbis agree about the exception regarding the life of the mother, particularly Orthodox rabbis who REQUIRE (not permit) abortion in such cases. However, there are also disagreements among rabbis concerning abortion in cases of rape, incest, and psychological health of the mother: many say abortion is permissible (not required), while some say it is not permissible. In addition, there is some dispute in instances of SEVERE congenital disorder on the part of unborn infants. This is what I mean by a “middle road” on abortion within Judaism.

At the same time, it is obvious that we do not all follow the teachings of Judaism. Catholicism is stricter than Judaism on the matter of no abortion, while other religious beliefs are more lenient. I think we must respect ALL religious teachings on this most personal of social issues.

Okay…,but, if they had that moral fortitude, would they be abortionists?

Agreed.

If anything Trump flopped. Remember, he was expected to take ten out of ten; he only took seven and nearly lost one of those.

I’d predict just the opposite. I expect Kasich to be the last one standing (except Trump).

In Ohio Trump still has a slight lead over Kasich but this could change. The most recent poll was earlier in February before the recent Trump flaps. A good showing by Kasich should keep him in the game. And we’re just noe getting into the Midwest where Kasich is strong.

Meanwhile Rubio is expected to lose to Trump in Florida (not that I’d want that to happen; I’d easily back either Rubio or Kasich before Trump) and he might drop out of the race at that time. That would clear the way for Kasich to become the leading Trump challenger.
Honestly, although I realize we live in a world where the reality is Trump mania, Trump 24/7 more or less, I am still surprised Rubio isn’t faring better in FL polling. I mean the guy was just elected to the Senate from there on the backs of the Tea Party just over 5 yrs ago. Although I know not by a majority in the general. But do you suppose his initial work with the bipartisan gang of 8 on immigration has hurt him in FL? I wonder if Jeb will endorse him against Trump and how that could play in FL?

Same with Kasich in OH. I mean the last I saw, his job approval rating there had grown to over 60% approval in his home state. I wonder if his expansion of Medicaid has hurt him among Republican primary voters there?

I still won’t be shocked though if one of or both Rubio and Kasich win their home states or if The Donald does take both. Nothing much shocks me anymore.

It seems like it’s more the stick approach (fear of being punished) as opposed to the carrot.
I guess I don’t see people with perverted consciences having any problem creating a reason. I also think a great many women will have a reason ready.

Glenn Beck calls for Cruz-Rubio ticket to take on Trump
Radio host Glenn Beck is urging GOP presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio to team up to oppose Donald Trump.

Beck called for a ticket of “Ted Cruz for president, Marco Rubio as vice president,” on his radio show Wednesday, according to The Blaze. Beck has already endorsed Cruz for president.
“They should announce this and run with this. This should go all over the Internet. I think this is doable, and this is absolutely unstoppable.”
