:DI am horrified that the GOP is about to nominate Trump for President. It is frankly a crime against humanity. The rest of the world is watching aghast. How it is physically or abstractly possible for self - proclaimed conservatives to vote for a demagogue who would rely on an ever more over blown use of presidential prerogative than Obama ever exercised and who is anything but a traditional conservative, is beyond me. He doesn’t even have a history of being pro - life but that’s OK apparently because he really hates Muslims and Mexicans and wants to beat the **** out of terror suspects and build huge walls to separate people and murder the families of suspected terrorists. Has the US gone entirely insane? Civil liberties and the rule of law seem to be of no importance to the masses of people voting for Trump because he would undermine both of them. If Americans would like to democratically destroy the very foundations of their own liberal, constitutional democracy, then sure thing go ahead and vote for Trump.

How can Catholics in good conscience vote for a man who makes remarks like this:
“If Hillary can’t satisfy her husband, how can she satisfy America?” Mr Trump has asked
I mean…🤷

Such a crude, sexist, vile, crass statement is entirely unbecoming of a political figure, let alone a prospective POTUS.

I am so disappointed in many of you. 😦

Pious folk are OK with lewdness and vulgarity now? Has it been “baptized” so to speak?

PS I know the above was a “re-tweet” on the part of Trump but it epitomizes what he believes. He favourably re-tweeted that vile comment.

Well as you see it comes down to Trump and Hillary and aside from all the liberal name calling which as usual is par for the course Hillary Clinton isn’t acceptable. 😉

And frankly I would rather have Trump negotiate over Hillary and John Kerry, pretty much a no brainer. 😉

Unless something big changes in the trajectory of the race, Donald Trump will be the nominee. I’ve seen some talk of a proposal of Cruz and Rubio going on one ticket. Perhaps that should be tried to stop Trump. It’s a narrow path for either of them to win on their own.

Perhaps a long shot Cruz can still get in but I just don’t see it with Rubio as depressing as that might me. I really don’t think he can even win Fla. Nevertheless the plus is the Rep party understands its divided and appears to at least be attempting to work through the dilemma despite the rampant rhetoric. The Democratic party is much the same but is yet to even acknowledge the dilemma to contend with it. I think its indicative by voter turn out. This simply isn’t business as usual as we see. But the choice of Hillary or Trump to me is a no brainer. The idea of intentional division is unacceptable and a non vote is a vote for Hillary imho.

At least none of the Republican candidates are criminals, national security risks or participated in the cover up of the death of Americans. Nor are any of them champions of killing babies from conception to birth.
“Nor are any of them champions of killing babies from conception to birth”? Really?

Trump has repeatedly - repeatedly - praised Planned Parenthood by name, including again at his Florida victory speech. How is that not championing killing babies?

Kasich seems to be the only Republican candidate who is still pro-life AFTER the baby’s born - as opposed to merely being “pro-birth” or “anti-abortion,” consistently pro-life at all stages of life. Will be sorry to see him out of the race. If there are other candidates whose pro-life policies extend to babies already born, I welcome the correction.

I been looking into the phenomenon and attached are some essays for consideration. Ultimately, I posit that Trump is the product of a century of dissolution of public morals and virtue. The seed was planted exactly when, I don’t know, perhaps with Lincoln maybe Theodore Roosevelt but it is bearing fruit now.

“Posterity–you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it.”
-John Quincy Adams
Sorry, John. We didn’t. We gave it a pretty good run for a while, but its over.

The UK Parliament may ban Trump from stepping foot on our territory. Is it really conceivable that the next POTUS is a person who could actually be banned from visiting a nation that is his country’s closest ally? 🤷

This is the incredulous situation we are approaching now. Trump is universally hated outside of the U.S. He will humiliate the U.S. internationally at a time when what the world needs most is real, visionary leadership from America: not a foul-mouthed playboy with a lewd past, privileged upbringing and xenophobic ideas.

I reiterate: I am so disappointed in the portion of the American electorate that has backed this imbecile. It is shameful that someone like Trump could viably be elected next November. Shameful.

Thanks for the article Steve, I will read it in full.

We live in very worrying times indeed 😦

And he continues to praise Planned Parenthood by name - how is that not championing the killing of unborn babies?

How can anyone who’s pro-life - consistently pro-life, including after the baby’s born, not just pro-birth or anti-abortion – vote for someone who consistently praises PP?

The UK Parliament might want to rethink banning the potential leader of its closest ally.

I’ve always said that the Republicans should choose the candidate that best represents them and it seems like they are leaning towards Mr. Trump, so I can only assume that he best represents the Republican electorate. The rest of the world will just have to deal with it.

👍

As I said, it is baffling to the intellect. I cannot for the life of me understand what is going on.

If Trump becomes the GOP nominee, as now seems almost certain, the U.S. will have crossed a political ‘rubicon’ even if he doesn’t win the presidency (which I pray to God he does not). Trumpism is latent authoritarian, far-right populism foaming to the surface in the world’s most important democracy. I cannot emphasise enough how dangerous it is for the entire planet, yet the proles are blindly following the pied piper into catastrophe?

The man has not one sane, workable policy. All he preaches is a gospel of divisiveness, hatred, crudeness, crassness and bile. Yet he keeps getting the votes.

If he becomes President there will be worldwide panic. I assure you.

He hasn’t caused global warming, nor islamic terrorism, nor world hunger, nor rampant crime. How do you judge him so severely to think he’s going to ruin the world?

He had a really good press conference last night. He’s already changing his tone to be more diplomatic and presidential. He wants to start unifying the party.

He also continued to say, planned parenthood shouldn’t be funded as long as they do abortions.

That’s an important part of what he said.

Don’t you think that’s a tiny bit of an exaggeration?
If he realistically intends to ban 1 billion people from entering the U.S. based only on their religion, compel countries reliant on U.S. military protection like South Korea to pay colossal amounts for U.S. bases to protect them from nuclear annihilation from the North and Japan vis-à-vis China when they already pay half the costs, build a huge wall to keep out people from America’s southern neighbour etc. etc.

Yes, quite simply there will be universal panic if he is elected. I’m not exaggerating. This is a surreal situation. Islamic allies of the U.S. worldwide would have a major re-think about their reliance on a nation that is led by an Islamophobe who doesn’t believe that they have a right to even enter America. U.S. - Mexico relations would hit a nadir that may never recover, the same with the rest of South America. The Mexican President and the former one have both compared him to Hitler (that is an exaggeration but emphasises my point that people are genuinely scared). Japan and South Korea would be spooked and feel betrayed by the U.S. Britain may ban him before he becomes the nominee from even entering our territory by popular demand. I could go on.

People frankly consider him to be a xenophobic, racist lunatic and bully who would have a finger on the nuclear codes and be in command of the world’s premier military. Its terrifying.
