Why put Cruz second? Cruz has way more delegates and has won 4 states.

Trump’s hate-filled rhetoric is particularly derided in Germany because they have, of course, an infamous history with democratically elected demagogues going on to dismantle democratic civil liberties…and no, I’m not invoking Godwin’s Law since I never used the “N” word or made an explicit mention of that onetime Chancellor of the Reich 😉

So please, don’t think that we Brits are overacting. The Mexicans dislike him. All of Latin America dislikes him. All of Europe dislikes him (especially Scotland because of his golf courses in the Highlands). The entire Islamic World dislikes him.

Cruz has won four states, and it would likely have been more if there was such a wide field. Cruz could easily be well ahead of Trump, but I don’t think the same can be said for Rubio (and I am a Rubio supporter). I think a Cruz/Rubio ticket, if declared now, and if Rubio gets out, that might make a huge difference–or at the very least it will show us that Trump is not beatable.

But I think the GOP wants this to go to the convention.

But can this go to the convention if Trump wins Ohio and Florida?

Ted Cruz wants to get government out of the game of picking winners and losers between companies. Right now, every corporation has a special little loophole in the tax code that gives them massive breaks. Under Cruz’s flat tax, every corporation pays the same rate. I don’t see any conflict of interest here.

Ted Cruz was always against the bank bailouts. I guess I could see the conflict if he decided, as a policy position, he was going to bail out banks.

What would be really bad is if a candidate took hundreds of thousands of dollars from the very corporations they plan on regulating…which is exactly what Hillary Clinton did.

We can only hope that he doesn’t. I think the GOP “elites” are stuck on “go along to get along” and Cruz and Rubio are just too conservative for them. Wish the Dems had the same problem. They have gone so far to the left that they are about to fall off the continent,

I’ve read many pieces claiming the GOP “elites” don’t want Trump and would much rather support Rubio. I’m not as knowledgeable about their views, I admit, but why do you think the opposite is true?

I know this may seem unbelievable to many here, but for many on the left, the Democratic nominees aren’t left enough.

As a New Zealander who endorses all that Vouthon said, I accept that my opinion (and his) is meaningless and even irritating to you and your fellow-Americans.

The reason why we non-Americans have an opinion, and are entitled to have an opinion, about American politicans is because the whole world is affected by your choice. You live in a big self-sufficient country so you don’t have to care about anything that goes on outside your borders.

The rest of the world has to look outwards at what’s going on in other countries that can affect our futures.

So, like it or not, we care. And almost universally, Trump as a potential President is looked upon with horror and disbelief.

But it IS your country and here’s hoping America alone will “wear it” if he does get into office. All the same, I pray you will be spared the consequences of that choice.
It’s not an over-reaction.

But really are any of the Republican candidates not looked on in horror by most of Europe and I suppose I’ll toss in Australia and New Zealand, Your governments are much further to the left ( using US speak) than we are.

A lot of people like Trump; he has received praise from foreign soil, this is unfortunately, just sort of fear-mongering.

Every dog has its day, even rich ones. Sometimes these negatives on Trump are just generalized terms and if one doesn’t be more specific, that should be stated as well.

Speaking for New Zealand, yes we are further to the left. (Incidentally, your compatriots resident in NZ voted overwhelmingly for Bernie Sanders:))

But of course we accept the US is a totally different country - not as secular as mine, for a start, and that has to be a good thing!

You are wrong to assume we’d regard any Republican candidate with horror. The rest of them look fine to us in so far as we know much about them, even if we would be Democrat voters.
Granted we do not understand the American political system (it’s soooooo complicated!) and we don’t know all the background stuff about your guys/gal (!), but we do know a bit about Trump. He’s the only one we’ve ever regarded with horror as far as I can remember.

(OK, we didn’t rate GWB vey highly…)
