Cardinal Dolan: I wouldn't deny communion to Biden

Of course not. Everyone! Everyone is rank UNWORTHY. Every Catholic knows that. ( Although we sometimes forget)It’s is the reality of our fallen world.
And the Church unfortunately has more than Biden as a credibility problem. Let’s not make the real presence into a weapon or political device.

Our Lord of course does not have something good to say about sin. Fortunately, he loves us anyway. And his father makes his rain on us all. Shares himself even though none of us are worthy to receive him. So rather than risk a thought that any of us are more worthy, say a prayer for Mr. Biden and love your neighbor.

Obviously talking about Penace first here. Biden needs to be careful and given his track record promoting murder should Not be a politic.

Biden has a misplaced desire to make people happy aka Co-dependance. Add the powers of feminism and you have enough to legalize murder.

No matter how many times yourself and others make the claim, withholding the Eucharist from impenitent sinners is not weaponizing the Sacrament. Are you suggesting that Canon Law is wrong and Joe Biden is right?

I have to admit, withholding the real presence on the basis of worthiness when we are all clearly rank unworthy is not my favorite idea. Way before Biden. I am not alone . That said, I am not questioning 915 I don’t like what happened in terms of the way it happened. Thats the last time I repeat that.
Let’s make one thing abundantly clear, since we seem to enjoy dancing around this: if you are persevering in grave sin, you are not merely unworthy to receive the Sacrament; you are disqualified from and unfit to receive Him until you repent. Until Joe Biden repents, he is simply not in communion with the Church. If you support the king Herod-like executions of the least of Christ’s brothers, you reject Him, and lying to everyone in the pews by coming up and giving the impression that you’re in communion with them is a grave misdeed.

Hopefully we can agree on this, and won’t need to go back and forth on this again. I don’t believe that this qualifies as penance.

Are you suggesting in a heated political race the sacrament cannot be weaponized? Because if you agree it can, we have gone a long way in clarifying what I was addressing. A right way and inappropriate way. I cannot agree with you for the simple reason that you lump appropriate and inappropriate into one glob of a question. Your post does not allow for a distinction.

Mr Biden’s views on abortion are in Conflict with the teachings of the Church. I don’t need King Herod metaphors as they add nothing. Happy to indulge your question which remains completely different than my point and my position.
You are free to judge Me Biden as your free will dictates.
Of course you don’t address my position and so I make no additional points.

I think it over the top for you to conclude Mr Biden’s need to repent.
This is election related. And I would be stunned if you claimed you were not voting for Trump.
So let me leave this with you:
When asked by Cal Thomas( Trump was 70+ at the time) Trump said he never asked God for forgiveness for anything) " No need to repent!"
Try and reconcile that with our faith. Or being a child of Vincent Peale’s theology.

Are you suggesting in a heated political race the sacrament cannot be weaponized?
But it is you have are weaponizing it by bringing politics into what is a religious issue. You are the one insisting that the priest in question acted for political reasons.

The priest who denied Biden communion did the right thing. Just ask Aquinas.

https://catholicherald.co.uk/commen...mmunion-did-the-right-thing-just-ask-aquinas/

St. Thomas very explicitly teaches that the Eucharist must be denied to public sinners. He writes, “Holy Communion ought not to be given to open sinners when they ask for it.” He teaches that the Eucharist was “instituted as a means of salvation,” yet when pastors allow public sinners to receive the Eucharist unworthily, they allow the sinner to drink judgment upon themselves, not salvation. So to allow public sinners to receive the Eucharist is not to withhold judgment, but is, in fact, knowingly heaping burning coals of judgment upon a soul. And it is better that the person experiences a little bit of infamy or shame than to be judged.

One is only excommunicated for abortion if one actually has the procedure done, or one is complicit in procuring said abortion. Supporting policy that keeps abortion legal does not incur automatic excommunication

And then only if the person knows the penalty, can the penalty be enforced.

Characterizing Fr. Morey’s decision as split second is unwarranted. I doubt former Vice Presidents show up anywhere un-announced. It’s also very likely Fr. Morey considered what he might do if such an occasion arose.

am insisting he did bring politics into it when he made a press release about the Democratic frontrunner I the most devisive political contest perhaps ever.
His appreciate of the involvement is only known to him.
And I can also insist that the coffee I am drinking right now is a political statement in this highly polarized election season. My wife is a tea drinker and any choice I make can be interpreted in any way I want. I can insist, if I so choose.

Let me ask you this. Trump was asked by Cal Thomas and responded that he ," never asked God for forgiveness." He had nothing to forgive. He was 70 at the time, not a fetus.
He was heavily influenced by his Pastor Vincent Peale.
Now
Have you considered that comparison? You seem awful certain of the moral choice presented.

Making a press statement is politicizing by definition. Don’t guess. It’s a fact.
That the conference of Catholic Bishops wrote about the influence of politics in these circumstances is another fact I didn’t invent in my mind.

I don’t want to speculate beyond the facts. Split second isn’t precise.
When Cardinals Burke and Ratzinger wrote on this, they both very explicitly said the person’s Pastor should do this. They also said how. According to Cardinal Burke, his writing was intended as a type of legal history, and his research was that the Pastor had done it in the past.
So let me clarify split second when I was trying to convey the idea of suitability within limited time and one time chance encounter

Well, that was Cardinal Dolan trying to stall for time in answering the actual question.

Do people still really care where ex Vice Presidents go? Hmm, I wouldn’t have thought so, but maybe. Still, perhaps it was better that Fr. Morey had his mind made up ahead of time then, wasn’t it? 🙂

The wine was a gift to sinners for the remission of sins. To which Aquinas Said someone IN MORTAL sin is essentially " dead" and cannot experience remission.
WHICH BEGS this question then: Is Biden in a State of mortal sin I suppose.

Well that’s what I thought also. So then you have those like Saint Ambrose who spoke about needing the blood for the remission of his many sins. You have the starting point here about baptised Catholics in good standing being entitled to the Eucharist and that any cannon that changes that must be STRICTLY CONSTRUED.
You have Saint Thomas also writing on the dangers to a priest who wrongfully withholds communion.
Finally, they do not evaluate the subjective component of the PUBLIC SIN, which then forecloses a true Evaluation of mortal vs veniel . Something it appears necessary for the death that makes the wine/ blood ineffectual. These are furthur potential reasons why they placed instructions of procedure.
