Cardinal Dolan: I wouldn't deny communion to Biden

The exceptionally worthy do seem to have trouble with the rest of us.

I don’t understand your question. What does wealth have to do with this conversation?

The Biden situation has nothing to do with any of us here. It is between him and his confessor. And ultimately with God. This is about his soul and not his politics.

Well of course he would rather someone realize they are not in union and not approach for Communion, but if that public figure doesn’t have that “AHA! moment,” then what? Cardinal Dolan will allow it under any circumstance then? I wonder where he draws the line.
I wonder what he would do if Andrew Cuomo was in his communion line. Would he really give him communion?

That Cardinal Dolan said this is no surprise. That he has been so silent so long is.

I don’t know about being more “worthy” than biden but I do know I’m in a state of grace and am not forbidden from communion by canon law.

You think you are more worthy than Mr. Biden?
Like in the last thread, you’re dancing around the issue. Canon Law lays out who shouldn’t receive the Eucharist, and Joe Biden (and anyone else who supports abortion in word or deed) falls in that category.

Why is this such a hard saying for you? You believe that the Eucharist is Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity, but you don’t believe that our Eucharistic Lord should be withheld from those who persecute Him and His little ones in the act of abortion?

In denying Biden communion, Morey was following a diocesan policy set forth in a [2004 decree signed jointly by the bishops of Atlanta, Charleston, and Charlotte. The decree states that supporting pro-abortion legislation is “gravely sinful” and that public figures who do so must be denied communion until they repent.

So the priest was obeying his bishop.

Cannon law says! And who denied it? By the way we are talking about public figures/ politicians. And my objection was something different. Something OI explained many times now.

I have to admit, withholding the real presence on the basis of worthiness when we are all clearly rank unworthy is not my favorite idea. Way before Biden. I am not alone . That said, I am not questioning 915 I don’t like what happened in terms of the way it happened. Thats the last time I repeat that.

I dont know that he did, nor do I know his reasons if he did but his reasons for denying Biden communion are clear and in obedience to the Church.

Cardinals Burke and Ratzinger both prescribed something very different.

Ah, but methinks you have missed the point. It is what is being supported, what is advocated for, what is funded while talking out of the other side of one’s mouth.

Our Lord had nothing good to say about that.

If the priest knows everyone in church who shouldn’t be receiving, I suppose that should work.

Im confused by your statement. Are you saying Joe Biden, the guy that wants taxpayer money to fund baby murder operations, is worthy of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ?

He draws the line for practicing homosexuals. They have to wash their hands of their sins first.

The Church has been hesitant to stand-up against different sins out of fear of alienating people, but doing so has created an environment where the Church appears to discriminate against a few small select groups (homosexuals) or to pick and choose a few sins that it actually considers to be wrong.

Combine this with the child assault scandal, and the Church loses total credibility with those on the outside.
