Cardinal Dolan: I wouldn't deny communion to Biden

I see. This is not morality, it is an worthy to receive.
Or
Are you saying Protestants who think they have never had anything to ask God for forgiveness for somehow don’t count unless you are a Catholic?
Because here is what I think. If he was an atheist, I think his idea not disqualifying. But as a Christian, where you believe in a God to ask, that he has no reason to ask sounds sociopathic.

What? What’s that supposed to mean? Given Dolan’s liberal leanings, he wouldn’t deny Biden communion.

So now a Cardinal can be accused of politics but the pastor should never be?

Biden has publicly run against basic church teaching. He should be denied communion. No matter the politics.

I didn’t know Protestants only have to live to the moral standards of, well, a starfish. But Catholics have to " know better"
Thanks. I must have missed that

Are you suggesting in a heated political race the sacrament cannot be weaponized? Because if you agree it can, we have gone a long way in clarifying what I was addressing. A right way and inappropriate way. I cannot agree with you for the simple reason that you lump appropriate and inappropriate into one glob of a question. Your post does not allow for a distinction.
So now you’re accusing the priest of acting politically? Heaven forbid that a man of God render obedience to the rules of his diocese in denying a sacrament to the unprepared!

You seem far too willing to attribute malice to the priest. As you’re the only one trying for a “political” angle, I can’t help but wonder if you’re supporting Biden’s campaign and won’t look at this objectively. You can’t claim to be ignorant, since myself and others have reportedly told you about Canon Law and the rules of the diocese concerning impenitent sinners and the Eucharist, so what does that leave besides partiality?

I’m not going to change your mind, clearly, so I’m done here. If you won’t accept Canon Law or the very words of Scripture (1 Corinthians 11:27-30), there’s nothing that I can do to make you understand why it’s dangerous and scandalous not to turn the impenitent away from the Blessed Sacrament.

But we know better. Biden was single out precisely because of his public figure status. You are assigning him a negative.
I just wonder how a Catholic can listen to a Candidate say on TV, I never did anything to ask forgiveness from God for. That cannot be right unless he is Jesus. And he isn’t. Closer to a sociopath by definition.

Do you know any other candidates that were at the same church as him?

To say I am the only one who has considered a political angle is where I will start and end my reply. Out of politeness

Ah, but methinks you have missed the point. It is what is being supported, what is advocated for, what is funded while talking out of the other side of one’s mouth.

Our Lord had nothing good to say about that.
Yes that’s the point. The disingenousness of it all.
If he were not a prominent Catholic, the specific issue of being in communion would not matter.

The Church is Christ’s hands, feet, voice, in the world. And for a Catholic to misrepresent Christ is not a good thing. It leads others astray.

Satan is “the deceiver”. Satan is not the one doing the abortions. What he does is pridefully deceive people. He causes them to doubt what “they have heard”. He causes them to take morality into their own hands.

Joe Biden probably is not directly culpable for a specific abortion. He is culpable for something much more pernicious. And in the most pubic and influential way.

He should reflect and I can agree, choose to not recieve upon reflection.

He causes them to act?
I think it is more correct that he has some power to influence removal of a legal choice, (or provides one …to be honest it is already provided.) You have him offering virgins apples. In truth he can do nothing directly besides give public, support to a practice the church says is repugnant to its teachings and sinful in terms of grave sin.

If you really want to attribute some evil to the priest, then so be it, I won’t stop you. I’m just saying that you come off as being equally as political as you make Father out to be. Your casual dismissal of Canon 915- as if there were never any circumstance that call for its implementation- makes it hard to consider an alternative.

It’s more than that. He (and any other public dissent from the Church’s moral teaching by those using the name Catholic) detracts from Christian morality.
Even leaving the issue of abortion aside: detracting from the fact that the Church points us toward the highest good is deceptive and counterproductive to the Church’s mission.

In this case, the public can gain the impression that a Catholic can be morally indifferent to a grave issue, and have a bifurcated conscience on a grave issue.
That’s deception and scandal.

Please don’t misrepresent me. My argument has been in the appropriateness of the application as engaged in, not denying any application at all.

You’ve been far too eager to defend Biden from criticism- your refusal to stay on one subject and your habit of bouncing around the topic to try and find a weak point makes it manifest. You can’t (and shouldn’t try to) limit his responsibility for his actions. He’s a grown man; he knows what the Church teaches, and he is rejecting it in the public square in favor of his party’s social agenda.

I know you didn’t like to analogy, but when a man chooses to be like king Herod rather than Christ the King, he places himself outside of the Church. I realize it may be uncomfortable that a priest finally chose to enforce Canon 915, but the whole reason that we have Canon Laws are to make use of them when they’re needed. When a man ignores Canon 916, Canon 915 needs to be applied by the minister of communion. Joe Biden is persisting in grave sin, and so Canon 915 was rightly applied to his case. Hopefully other priests follow suit until he (hopefully) repents.
