In particular, the main goal of general election sloganeering is not to get votes for yourself, but to dissuade lukewarm supporters of your opponent from actually voting at all.

I, however, try to write with and to encourage the clarity demanded in a courtroom, not in the style of the unsubstantiated BS anyone can throw around in any number of ways.

I was foreman on a three strikes case, and I was shocked at how poor the skills were on both sides. Watching lawyers in movies and on TV doesn’t prepare you for the real world attorneys. The actors/writers are much better at preparing and arguing a case.

There are those who pass the bar in the top 20% and those who just pass the Bar. Not unlike physicians - some who can do brain surgery, some who ought to stick to telling patients to open wide and say, “Aaah.”

For attorneys, it’s mostly in the preparation, writing skills, and thinking on your feet.

I’ve experienced the same sort of attorneys that you have, too. The clarity demanded in a courtrom is sometimes not forthcoming from the counsels’ tables. 😃

I never said that any Bishop stated that Obama must go. My phrase was that the Bishops had made it, “abundantly clear”, that Obama must go.

I find Dolan’s actions to be much about Dolan and not so much about ensuring that the religious freedoms we enjoy in this country are safeguarded.

Your statement exemplies why Dolan has brought scandal into this matter. Why he feels that he can sidestep bringing confusion that you yourself have noted, into an election that is so abundantly clear is why many of us are angered by his action. Obama only is aligned with 4 of 23 positions of our Church while Mitt is aligned with 12 of 23 positions.

I personally think that the survey of the candidates positions is too charitable. The survery should also include an analysis of whether or not the candidate is in support of positions that activily undermines religious freedoms and undermines the Church.
If such were inlcuded and the candidate’s score were reduced by reason of such open hostility to the Church, it is obvious that Obama’s record, being so extremely evil, it would garner a negative score.

This from Ellen Barkin" I hope that Hurricane Ivan takes out all of those pro life,zenophobic anti homosexual hating Republicans in Tampa":eek:Annnnd this from Samual L Jackson"I don’t understand God’s reasoning that he spared all those Republicans in Tampa by steering the hurricane towards Louisiana,it’s not fair":eek::eek::eek: Nice,huh?

One or two people don’t play nice means that others don’t play nice? Would you indict the entire Catholic priesthood for the sins of a small percentage of them?

And the Cardinal’s plea isn’t lost by Romney, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum and other republicans?

I think he was addressing both sides, but mostly the candidates themselves who have both run nasty attack ads.

Something tells me that those in charge of the competing sides prioritize the cases and assign attorneys accordingly. Thus, cases in which the government is actually denying citizens their rights, like White v. Lee, get token legal representation, while really monumental, earth-shattering cases, like whether or not a 13-year-old student should be allowed to say her rosary on a public school bus, get assigned the really big guns. 😛
