13%. Is that the effective or the marginal rate? If you are paying at an effective rate of more than 13% you need to either get a CPA to do your taxes or if you already have one get a new one.
👍

Whatever it is, I’m sure Carlan is willing to pay much more…probably double.

What do I pay? Am I “rich?” You seem to think you know a lot about me…

I’m not blubbering. You are a bit unhinged in this post. I was asking about the strategy to grow the economy. 🤷
Yes, well I’m sorry, for I have no idea of your circumstance, and it is none of my business, I do get somewhat unhinged at the dreadful inequality in this world especially about the selfishness and attitude concerning the less fortunate amongst.us. I hate the expression of so many who look down on those less fortunate and say about them…“By God I picked myself up by my boot straps and so can they”.
Peace, Carlan

I get upset about the people who are born on third base and think they hit a triple. Sorry about the cliche’ but it is so apropo’

I do quiet alright with doing my own taxes Mr.I don’t need the extra expense of you to deal with them. By the way I am very satisfied to gladly pay my fair share .even if were to makes mistakes at times, I’m very thankful to help provide for the common good, Yes and above and beyond what I give as personal charity I don’t begrudge what i give through my Government.
You didn’t answer my question. Were you talking about effective rate or marginal. I am glad you have determined youvpay your fair share. The problem is when Liberals start deciding what others "fair share " is

Actually, estesbob, I have no idea what my effective or marginal is. I determine my fair share because I fill out my two tax sheets every year work the bottom line out myself and send in what the tax tables tell me I owe, fairly simple. The IRS has never yelled at me or called me out for messing up seriously in all the 32 years since my husband died and I’ve been doing it.I suppose if I bothered to check out my last return, I could figure what percentage of the botton line I payed was. Actually I can’t be bothered at the moment but i will if you insist:p:rolleyes:Carlan

Trickle down economics- that’s all it is.

Businesses make money because that’s what businesses do and they hire people so that they can make more money and VIOLA better economy. That’s the GOP plan.
As opposed to? The government taking money from all of us and creating nothing but further indebtedness? Who else COULD create jobs and make money? And I don’t mean simply PRINTING money via the government printing presses.

I know you didn’t mean to, but your 2nd paragraph is more of a recommendation for the GOP than a condemnation. You were speaking sardonically but you actually made sense for a change.

Who else COULD create jobs and make money?
Uh, do businesses stop making money when a particular party is in power? Bush cut taxes and the resulting wealth was supposed to trickle down…do you happen to remember the rate of monthly job losses when he left office?

What we are living and have been living for four years was just rearing it’s ugly head when GW left office.Lest you forgot,Maxine Waters,Barney Frank,Chris Dodd all Dems were the head of the oversight commitee for Fannie and Freddie. It is on tape that Franks didn’t see any probems ,even as they were occuring before his very eyes. There were warning shots put out by GW and John McCain, largely were ignored by the Dems. All of this was instrumental in the slippery slope of the job losses we have and are STILL experiencing,in spite of the left supressing and manipulating the numbers.

Poor Cardinal, doesn’t have a prayer in stopping the nastiness and stupidity of the Tea Party right.
Pardon, but when has it become stupid to suggest balancing the budget and living within our means? Seems like the prudent thing to do to me. And as far as nastiness goes, I highly suggest if you want to see nasty, you must have missed the crowds in Wisconsin and the Occupy crowd. That is nasty.

By then it was too late. The Fed had already bailed out Bear Sterns, signalling to the market that they were willing to bail out others. So they didn’t with Lehman Brothers but that really didn’t matter. The market had been doomed to collapse because of the housing bubble caused by low interest rates, low margin, overselling and overbuilding of homes, that came after 9/11. Even in 2004 the Fed realized that the housing bubble was out of control by starting to raise interest rates, but not too much as they didn’t want to be blamed if Bush were to lose the election.

Golly, iam all for balancing budgets, this 87 year old had better be, gotta try to keep that catastrophic bit from disappearing altogether.
Didn’t miss either, but I certainly was able to relate, most likely in a different way than you could or did. It would be wonderful If the whole world could see Jesus in poor and the down and out, at least try not to offend their sensibilities.
Peace. Carlan

Good post Carlan. Too often I find conservative posters here who accuse others of believing they can substitute taxes for personal charity. But as you prove in this post that is certainly not the case. I don’t get the impression from some of your posts you are an 87 yr old with substancial financial means. Yet you prove people can and do offer up personal charity along with not begrudging paying their taxes. God bless you Carlan.

We pray for our president and leaders at every mass in our parish. It does not mean we agree with them. I pray for conversion of pro abort politicians every day too.
At the last Catholic Mass I attended we prayed for our government leaders to help the poor. It affected me to the point of bringing tears of joy to my eyes after having read some of the political views here.

That’s your opinion, but if you look at the past year with every GOP presidential candidate attacking Obama, and not each other, it doesn’t add up.

Heck there’s been nastiness from the right all through Obama’s presidency, from the 3rd week in office when Mitch McConnell on the senate floor announced that the goal of all republicans is to make this a one term president.

There is nastiness from both sides, but to ignore what Obama has endured, is really showing a bias.

I agree. I’ve even heard the night of his inauguration some of them were already holed up somewhere in DC plotting their opposition to him. They seemed to have had no real desire to even attempt to play nice and work with him from the very beginning.

Another great post Carlan. Just as you aren’t I don’t believe Jesus was keen either on dreadful inequality and the attitude you point out here. I also don’t think Jesus would twist greater fairness and justice with envy. A person can seek fairness and justice and it doesn’t mean at all that they are envious. Peace to you as well.

Thank you for emphazing Matt, so many posting in this kind of forum miss that point ,and I don’t understand them since this is a Catholic Christiam forum and it was never that way with people in my day, we cared about social justice it was a Catholic thing among the people. It is a different time tho’, I understand.that . Most today have never experienced personally the time of the great depression of the 30’s. As aways peace to all, Carlan

You dont find many people comfortable channeling Jesus-especially when Jesus presented as just another Democrat Party hack. Democrats have twisted the Churches teaching on the Preferential option for the poor and vulnerable into a prefernetial option for big govenment and high taxes.
