Education and health care have been handled without federal government and should be handled without federal government.
:rotfl: The people of my state are faced with a governor who won’t even implement state minimum healthcare benefit standards under the Afordable Care Act. Thank God we’ll have the federal government to set some guidelines for care and not have to depend on the state.

Common sense tells me that all the money comes from the same place - the taxpayers. If the states can’t afford it, that means the taxpayers can’t afford it. If the taxpayers can’t afford it, then the federal government can’t afford it either. 🤷
We disagree on which taxpayers can afford it.

Why is that hilarious to you? You don’t believe in government by the people…I get it. Vote for better representatives of your state.

Since we don’t have the single-payer, national health plan you desire, are you petitioning the UN?

The only one I agree with is “broken down infrastructure,” if it’s interstate infrastructure. Education and health care have been handled without federal government and should be handled without federal government. There is no reason citizens should send their tax dollars to the federal government, only to have a percentage sent back to the state. It’s inefficient and unnecessary. I’m surprised you didn’t include Social Security and welfare programs. You don’t care about those?

Now, my short list.
National Defense
Of course!
Thought you would have trashed them oops those:) altogether.
Only some, I wonder which those would be?

Yes-48% dont pay any federal income taxes at all. They generally vote for people who tell them those who do pay income taxes dont pay their fair share
Well, you would say that, someone once told me it is the way you make your living! That is, trying to figure out how millionares can get away with not contributing much and I’ll say others also , while the middle class carry the burden.

Millionaires pay 88% of all federal income taxes. How much do you think they should pay?

Yes. Mitt Romney for instance can afford to pay far more in dollars than he does than say I get the impression some 87 yr old ladies can.
You are still talking about the same taxpayers, regardless of your class warfare. Who are the different taxpayers at the state and federal level?

Still the same taxpayers though. Shifting money from state to federal doesn’t increase the amount of money. CMatt25 is using some sort of voodoo economics. 😉

Guy, i don’t know, you are the CPA.
One billionaire I Know of says he pays around 13%, a drop in the bucket considering his billions a year.

The idea of proportional giving is not some new-fangled socialist one, it dates back to the widow putting her mite into the temple coffers. It doesn’t matter if people richer than her put in 99% of the final total. What matters in the amount she gave in relation to what she possessed - in this case 100%.

The circumstances and the purpose of the donations are not applicable to modern-day taxation, but the simple, basic principle is: the value of one’s contribution lies not in how much it contributes to the total amount collected, but in what proportion of one’s ability to contribute it constitutes.

So, you are proposing that we tax poor widows a higher percentage? It’s Biblical! 😛 😃

Effective rate or marginal rate? And just who is it we are talking about that makes billions a year? Or are you confusing earnings with assets?

And we most certainly have a progressive tax system. Almost all federal income taxes paid by the top 25% of earners. 48% paying no feudal income tax at all.

That was my guess. It is quite possible that the billionaire in question has no earned income (i.e. income is from investments).

I was under the impression that you had a problem with that very characteristic of our tax system: that it is progressive. Oh…and I think you meant ‘federal’ not ‘feudal’? 😉

My point was federal versus state. It seems to me that the states are free to tax their rich at a much higher rate, if that’s what they believe in. That is even more reason to return programs to the state level. They will then be free to implement any level of “progressive” taxation they prefer.
