All i have to say at the moment is that President Obama has turned this country around and pulled us back from the cliff we were on four years ago, and if you vote for the two GOP men by holding your nose and they win ,we all has better hope and pray we won’t be sorry. G’day, Peace, Carlan

And you say you’re a Catholic. Go ahead, vote for the abortion-rights guy again, Carlan.

:rolleyes: :mad::banghead::hypno:

Well, you would say that, someone once told me it is the way you make your living! That is, trying to figure out how millionares can get away with not contributing much and I’ll say others also , while the middle class carry the burden.
Snarky…

The idea of proportional giving is not some new-fangled socialist one, it dates back to the widow putting her mite into the temple coffers. It doesn’t matter if people richer than her put in 99% of the final total. What matters in the amount she gave in relation to what she possessed - in this case 100%.

The circumstances and the purpose of the donations are not applicable to modern-day taxation, but the simple, basic principle is: the value of one’s contribution lies not in how much it contributes to the total amount collected, but in what proportion of one’s ability to contribute it constitutes.
Sounds kind of Marxist to me:rolleyes:

excuse me, we are not discussing abortion rights, but as most here know already I am a Dem for pro life and you do not know for whom I will vote or if I will vote at all. However, in this country you may surmise all you like. Peace, Carlan

Oh phooey, you can laugh at what this oldie says, but it is the truth.
And I just heard our old pro Biden say we are certainly better off today because Ben Laden is dead and G.M is alive. Laugh at that truth if you have the nerve.
Peace, Carlan

You are still talking about the same taxpayers, regardless of your class warfare. Who are the different taxpayers at the state and federal level?
rLg, you always have had this whole class warfare idea twisted imo. The warfare is coming from the top down. It’s the top class firing the bullets at the middle class and the poor while corporations make such profits and the rich who are the ones who can most afford to pay more dollars in taxes, want to keep their benefits of tax cuts and now I hear talk of further tax break benefits for the rich. We’re never going to even start digging ourselves even somewhat out of the hole in that case unless you want to severely hurt the poor and middle classes in the process.

Carlan, I just heard that too! We must be watching the same facts. 👍 I thought Joe was right on with that one. I’m looking forward to him taking on Ryan.

Will do.

GM would still be alive, if they had declared bankruptcy and reorganized (some say they would have even better). And, while I’m happy Osama was taken out, it is not a big enough deal for me to ignore all of his failed policies, increase in debt and anti-life stances. But, then, I realize those aren’t important to “pro-life” Democrats. It is sufficient just to claim to be pro-life, as you vote for the most pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, anti-religious freedom candidate you can find…

The facts dont bear up your claims. And when repeatedly confronted with the facts you ignore them. The so called rich already pay 88% of all federal income taxes. A tax system that exempts 48% from paying taxes can in no way be described as tilted towards the rich.

Will do.

But bankruptcy would have negatively effected the UAW so Obama could not allow that. And what most people dont get is the damage the bailout did to the system of financing in this country. For the first time in History bond holder and preferred stock claims were subordinated to other creditors. Meanwhile GM is still distressed, still owes us billions and the day of reckoning for the UAW has only been delayed.

Just for the heck of it, let’s have some fun with numbers.
It is reported, and let’s for the moment accept that it’s accurate. that Mitt Romney made $20 million in 2010, I believe.

In my little area of the country a well-paid common worker makes about $30,000 per year. So, if my math is correct, Mr. Romney made the same amount as 666.667 workers in my area. And when it comes to the rich, Mr. Romney is a comparative lightweight.

If all were taxed evenly he would pay 667 times the amount in tax of one single worker.

Of course the rich pay 88% of the income taxes…they have most of the money.

The question remains…are they paying a fair share of their income. Just a curiosity…what was the marginal rate for the wealthy under that Republican miracle worker, Ronald Reagan?

By the way,you do not know for whom I vote or that indeed I do vote! Peace, Carlan

  1. yes, really.
  2. surely, you know that he has increased the debt more in his first term than Bush in two terms. Obama is an overachiever… cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57400369-503544/national-debt-has-increased-more-under-obama-than-under-bush/
  3. if you aren’t voting Obama, then I am happy to hear it. You could just say that…unless you just want to do a head fake by just stating the obvious - that I don’t know.

That’s because you misconstrue the facts as a Catholic Republican to fit your personal agenda. I’m not talking about percentages. I’m talking about who has the most real disposable dollars to be able to afford more taxes. Instead of cutting tax percentage rates for the rich while asking the poor and middle class to take the brunt of the sacrifice. The rich can very much afford to pay more without them having it affect their lifestyles to any measurable degree. And they’re certainly not going to have to worry whether they’re going to have to choose between food for their children or medication for themselves as just one example. I want no part of it.

Note also it’s never the fault of their ideas; it’s always someone or something else.
Can you see the hypocrisy inherent in that statement?

While you may be correct that the “liberal” ideas may not have always succeeded. Be fair, and admit to how catastrophic some conservative ideas have been. President Hoover, and President GW Bush come to mind. Carter of course, while not nearly as disastrous in consequence, was a very bad presidency that comes to mind as well. So neither ideological point of view seems to work very well, at times.

This is the dilemma we face now. Obama has been a failure in many respects. Reelection could be more of the same. Romney makes promises which sound good, but then he fails when he claims that he can get their by following similar policies as GW Bush. Very recent history has shown those policies not to work.

So the choice is: Which apparent failure do you prefer? It really is a choice of the lesser of two evils.
