That’s because you misconstrue the facts as a Catholic Republican to fit your personal agenda. I’m not talking about percentages. I’m talking about who has the most real disposable dollars to be able to afford more taxes. Instead of cutting tax percentage rates for the rich while asking the poor and middle class to take the brunt of the sacrifice. The rich can very much afford to pay more without them having it affect their lifestyles to any measurable degree. And they’re certainly not going to have to worry whether they’re going to have to choose between food for their children or medication for themselves as just one example. I want no part of it.

Again, you’re ignoring the facts.

Even if you were to repeal the Bush Tax Cuts, that would only be a drop in the ocean. You would have to tax 100% of the income of people making $70k or more to cover the current budget, let alone any increases. I don’t see how this is a good thing for the economy or “helps the poor.”

Without large cuts across the board, I don’t see how simple tax increases fix the budget. When the US goes bankrupt, the poor will be worse off than they are now.

I am still confused:confused:Your response makes even less sense,in that you stated you are against all the very issues Obama endorses  You seem to be hung up on what you see as social justice issues, which are specious, because Obama hasn’t done anything to improve the plight of the disenfranchised. He,along with the Dems as a whole merely exploit them for their owm political gain. Also,if we don’t begin by defending the most innocent among us,life in the womb, the slippery slope is all life will become less valuable.Just look to China to see how little they regard life both inside and outside the womb.😦
Jeanne, I’m continually stunned when decent people perform Olympian gymnastics feats in their own minds to justify their support for odious individuals. :doh2: Rob

I’d love to know how people wrapped up in soap operas and American Idol type shows learn the TRUTH about Obama without a hard-hitting campaign. I think that Cardinal Dolan is woefully naive, and he is showing a willingness to compromise with evil. IMO, the church should NOT “turn the other cheek” after being struck with a baseball bat by Obama and his minions. This Democrat convention will feature the ugliest, meanest, most desperate speeches in American history. Watch it if you don’t believe me. 🤷 Rob
I am on the fence about Cardinal Dolan speaking @ the DNC.However,if he recites the exact same prayer tonight,as he did last week,I believe your gonna see a lot of people squirm in discomfort. Also, might finally wake up some Catholics if they hear his prayers and actually realize how corrupt, morally the Dem party has become.🤷

Exactly. I hope and expect the Cardinal will make the same prayer. Who wants to bet it won’t be seen on any of the major networks? They’ll cut away to some sycophant talking about a thrill he felt up his leg.

Matt, today's rancid American culture has failed to teach you simple truths. You can only remove so many eggs from the golden goose before the goose expires. If you've noticed, that goose is on life support now, and four more years of massive government entitlements and trillion and a half dollar deficits will BREAK the entire system. If you have had the courage to watch "2016", you will know that this is EXACTLY Obama's intent for America. I hope that you and your generation will wake up before November 6th. How much more failure do YOU want to witness from this regime? Rob

If Cardinal Dolan uses the opportunity in the way that Mother Theresa used her Nobel Prize dinner, to speak Truth to leftist power, then I’m cool with it. Even Hillary Clinton had to listen to this Saint’s passionate plea for the unborn, as she was one of the attendees. Rob

,I’d forgotten a out the pesky mainstream media and their manipulations:rolleyes::eek:

It’s a gut thing…no logic required.
Now Rlg, that is not playing very nice.
I will use this post to say to you all , that we all use our own brand of logic when it come to opposition politics.
It is my belief that political parties should work together for the common good of all the people.
That is not happening in this country anymore. We are becoming more and more divided because of it.
Money, the root of all evil, is destroying democracy in our country, I feel sure the Bishops would agree.
We must ,somehow, get it completely out of politics.
Peace, Carlan

But as Catholics we shouldn’t be using our own brand of logic . we should be following the Teachings of the Church;

As Archbishop Chaput pointed out:
Obviously, we have other important issues facing us this fall: the economy, the war in Iraq, immigration justice. But we can’t build a healthy society while ignoring the routine and very profitable legalized homicide that goes on every day against America’s unborn children. The right to life is foundational. Every other right depends on it. Efforts to reduce abortions, or to create alternatives to abortion, or to foster an environment where more women will choose to keep their unborn child, can have great merit–but not if they serve to cover over or distract from the brutality and fundamental injustice of abortion itself. We should remember that one of the crucial things that set early Christians apart from the pagan culture around them was their rejection of abortion and infanticide.** Yet for thirty-five years I’ve watched prominent “pro-choice” Catholics justify themselves with the kind of moral and verbal gymnastics that should qualify as an Olympic event. All they’ve really done is capitulate to Roe v. Wade.***

You’re right, it was a cheap shot. You stated that your “gut” was not to trust Romney, but you won’t research him. Personally, I think that is a sad commentary on Democrat voting, but you are right that it doesn’t deserve a cheap one-liner.

The so called rich already pay 88% of all federal income taxes.
Just as a historical question, is this much different than the first income tax in 1914? I believe it was 1% of anything over $3000, 2% of anything over $20,000, and so forth. And how many made $3000 in 1914?

But that’s the eventual price we must all pay for the unfunded wars, Iraq, Afghanistan, and future.

Thank you for the acknowledgment, our beloved Cardinal Dolan would smile upon you:)

Perhaps, but then again, tho’, many on both sides can be called out for falling short in that area.
The excuse is I do not get to the library much anymore and I limit myself to what I purchase on Amazon ,besides I don’t use a credit card and i must call on my daughter to order for me making it most inconvenient for both…:)I know, it is no excuse for not checking him out here on the net. Anyway, Rlg, we do what we can, and I hear about him on the telly , I have that going all day even if it is just to hear another voice around my home.:o.Peace, Carlan

I wish I lived close. I would love to come by and chat. It would supply another voice, lively conversation…and a lot more charitable conversation. We, and I mean most of us, tend to be a little less charitable when we aren’t speaking face-to-face. It’s on the long list of things I need to work on. 😊

Well, I hope you reconsider, Carlan. I’ve studied up on both candidates - read their books and/or biographies. I’ve read up on Romney’s past and read critiques of him from both sides. He is genuinely pro-life, though not 100%, which is much more than we can say for Obama. Additionally, he is much better qualified on business and economic issues, which is really important right now. Finally, he is genuinely a good, charitable person who has done much, direct work with people who needed financial help. When he speaks of community and neighbors helping neighbors, it isn’t just talk. I truly believe he is the better choice for our country.
Is pro-lifiness the single compelling issue which differentiates them for you?

We know that his economic policies are likely to make matters much worse, simply by looking at what similar policies did to our economy under Mr. Bush.

In spite off the promises for smaller government, every republican from Reagan and beyond (except Obama) has increased the deficit spending as a ratio to GDP more than any democratic president. Mr Reagan and Mr Bush were the biggest budget busters in history by that measure… until Mr. Obama. Given that republican presidents traditionally drive us deeper into debt than democrats, it is not clear that Mr Obama’s opponent would have done any better. Given the very poor judgement shown during the campaign, it is safe to say that he would have made some very poor decisions. So, that leaves is with Mr.Romney.

He has a history of parlaying his family wealth to an even vaster fortune. That took some smarts and skill, even though he did have the advantage of starting out rich. It appears that he may have broken the law to avoid paying his share of taxes, however. Mr. Bush and others have shown us that vast wealth, and a privileged education may not result in even a barely competent president. The republican party was too embarrassed with him to even let him show his face at the convention.

While the party line is that Mitt’s life has lead him inexorably to the presidency, that appears to be a lie. He has no experience in foreign diplomacy or foreign affairs. He is not an attorney. There is no indication that he understands history or geography in depth. He has no experience with federal government. He has no military experience. These all seem to be basic qualifications to be a good president. We have suffered Mr Obama’s first term while he tries to learn these things. Do we start back at square one, with someone who doesn’t come close to his intelligence? (or so it appears from his writing and speech).

Just what do you seems his qualifications? I wish someone would make an argument as to why he would be qualified to be president of the US.

You have to be alive to benefit from government

Or you can watch Michael Moore to know exactly what the healthcare industry and corporate America is up to. Btw I’m fully awake. I’m so awake that I have no interest at all in returning to deregulation and continuing tax cuts for the rich and increasing defense spending. While we cause harm to the poor and middle class by requiring them to make their severe sacrifices. Nor do I want to repeal healthcare. I want to strengthen it. Not gut it. Bottom line I’m so awake I’ve no interest in going back to the same policies of the past, many of which got us into the mess in the first place. Nor to a day when the sick could be denied adequate health care. I simply ask myself WWJD? And for Someone Who had what He had to say about the rich and the poor and the sick, in my faith I believe I know whose side He’s on in this. Peace.

Epan, it was OBAMA who sued Citibank in Chicago to FORCE it to give bad loans to unqualified people. NOT Bush. NOT Romney. It was Democrat policy regulations which caused the tragic mortgage catastrophe.
It is the Democrat Party which facilitates culture rot as well. Not just the fact that they want unfettered abortion with taxpayers paying for them, but the fact that they have written tax and welfare legislation which eliminates the need for fathers in children’s lives. Money is given to “mothers” without regard to their lifestyles. You could be a crackhead lush and still retain parental rights, thanks to leftist Democrats. Inner city pathologies are horrifying. Thanks Democrats! :ehh: Blessings, Rob
